Self catered rental, 5 bedroom farmhouse cottage

Ker-eol is a lovely detached farmhouse situated just outside Pont Aven. It has a large garden, and about 3 acres of adjacent land. The house has 4 large bedrooms, and there is a further double en-suite bedroom on the ground floor, separate from the main house, en suite. We normally let the house as one unit of 4 bedrooms, and welcome enquiries for use of the 5th bedroom if required. We never let separately. There are some wonderful beaches for bathing nearby and also some fantastic surfing beaches all within a few kilometres. There are many areas of great historical interest and some wonderful romantic walks and great food. It is also a very popular area for fishing and boat trips. All linen is provided. English speaking, but we translate to other languages. Welcome pack.

About David

My wife Lucy and have a small family farm in West Somerset, and now have 5 children and 7 grandchildren, who are all growing up fast! We grow Energy crops and our youngest daughter runs a livery and equine stables business on the farm. We bought KerEol just before we started farming in France ourselves in 2002

We loved KerEol from the first time we saw it because its a lovely traditional french house in a very peaceful and friendly area of France.Everything is gentle here, the locals friendly and Pont Aven is full of atmosphere and no crowds. We love coming here to chill out!

What makes this house unique

What we loved most about this house was the 3 acres of land it has, and a great sense of timelessness. We are progressively updating it, and plan that it will be a family home for people to enjoy at reasonable cost for many years to come.

Fabulous house for a family

We absolutely loved this house which we rented for two weeks for the whole family plus very old Westie to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. The house is very spacious and well appointed so we all had our own space but equally could all come together to socialise and, more importantly eat together. Some memorable meals were cooked and eaten - I loved the kitchen! The area was lovely - great beach at Port Manec'h, lively markets in Pont Aven and Concarneau. We enjoyed kayaking down the Aven and had some lovely meals out in Pont Aven. We walked to Nizon most days to collect fresh croissants from the boulangerie there. The walks up and down the river were great and one surprisingly fun day out was a maize maze with interactive characters. Weather beautiful - very memorable holiday. Thank you!

Fantastic farmhouse great location

My husband & I stayed here with 6 friends for a 60th celebration. We had a lovely time and although the weather was hot my husband lit the fire twice in the lounge. Very spacious so we weren't all on top of each other come breakfast. Plenty of fridge space too. the garden was perfect and we played bowling on the grass and sunbathed on the garden lounges. Great place to stay very clean. We walked to Pont Aven (half hour walk) too.Beaches near by lots to do. The English managers John & Julie were very informative and attentive to our needs. Thank you so much for our stay.... we had a great time...Gill & John

Lovely base to explore delightful area

A very spacious and comfortable house. We were particularly impressed by the high standard of presentation, furnishings and decor. Every effort was made to make us feel welcome from a substantial welcome pack to finishing touches we haven't seen anywhere else, such as fresh flowers everywhere. Even staples like washing-up liquid, washing powder, dishcloths were provided...which really saved on the grocery bill! Can't think of anything that was lacking. The property is only a 5 minute drive from Pont Aven, itself a picturesque town on a sea inlet, stuffed full of art galleries and biscuit shops (and plenty of restaurants and bars). Lots to see and do in the area. The only quibble is that our small dogs were able to get under the hedge in the 'dog proof' garden. Had it been fenced we'd have given the property five stars!

Ker-Eol is very close to the pretty town of Pont-Aven, which is a picturesque port popular with tourists due in part to its art galleries. This is a relaxing, peaceful area of France, with timeless appeal, unspoilt by commercialisation, with friendly locals and a typical example of the gentle living in France that is so envied and loved.

The artist Gauguin came to Pont-Aven in the 1880s to paint before leaving for Tahiti. The stamp of gifted artistry is present without being pervasive or dominant and lends a deep sense of identity to the lovely small estuary town.

There are many beautiful beaches, particular favourites include Pointe De Trévignon, Tahiti Beach and Port Manech. All are very beautiful, but never crowded and mostly safe for bathing.

There is also the town of Concarneau with the Ville Close, a small, highly fortified 13th century citadelle on a rocky island in the bay. Concarneau has a good aquarium, sailing schools and a pleasant seafront and promenade, with a lovely atmosphere, often staging live open air music, and theatre. There is also an excellent selection of shops and restaurants.

The Pointe du Raz, known as the Land’s End of both Finistere and France, has been designated a “Grande Site Nationale” It is dramatic and well worth a visit, especially the deep fissures which fill and drain with a deafening surf-roar.

There is an abundance of fantastic restaurants all across Brittany accompanied by some stunning locations. Locals are friendly and welcoming, but maintain their strong sense of independence and nationality.

Other Activities: Art studios, open air cafés and historical sites with easy and pleasant walks often beside picturesque rivers and streams. A great place to unwind and really appreciate life at a leisurely gentle pace.
