Silver Lake is nestled in the rolling hills of Wyoming County, NY. The lake is 4 miles long, a mile wide and known for good fishing so don’t forget your poles
This cottage boasts 3 covered porches, plenty of outdoor dining and seating along with indoor & outdoor fireplaces. There is also a boat lift available if you bring your own boat (6.5' wide, 2,000 lb).

An old fashion vacation with a step back in time
Although built around 1900, the home has been extensively rebuilt and restored, including all new bathrooms, kitchen, bar-room, 3 porches, indoor & outdoor fireplaces and refinished floors throughout.
A trully unique part of the ‘east’ side of the lake is the right of way 2+ mile walkway between the houses and lake, which until 40+ years ago had been a narrow guage railroad. This walkway takes you along the lake to the Silver Lake Institute, while getting to know the neighbors and and enjoying family time exercise.
Relax with an evening fire at one of the 2 fireplaces or with a bon fire lakeside with the portable firepit. Plenty of wood available.
Hope you like music, there is a great stereo on the 1st floor with 5 sets of speaker (3 outdoor), extensive (oldies) CD library and hookup for your ipod, iphone, ipad or other MP3 player. Additional surround sound system on 3rd floor.
All the bedrooms boast ceiling fans, along with the living room and bar room.
The ‘7th’ bedroom is actually the 3rd floor of the house we fondly refer to as: The Orphanage (also known as: Crow’s Nest, Adam’s Attic or Astro Lounge) Has 4 distinct areas, main room with large ‘L’ shaped couch and other seating, bed area with 4 'full size' beds creating a camp like setting, additional sitting area over looking the lake with large couch and 4 other chairs, and finally a full size bath. This area is a favorite with the kids (and sometimes the guys) to get away and enjoy the views and their own surround sound stereo.
We have renovated to be very family oriented, with the bedrooms, orphange, flow, porches, etc.. Until our renting this year, we also did not have a TV or internet (it's does now), and spent time catching up with family with games, music and enjoying what the house, community and area has to offer. It's been over 10 years and we have not tired of it, and is still a favorite for our families to gather, and hope it becomes one for your family too.
Dogs &/or cats must first discuss with owners, and if agreed there is a $50 fee per pet.

Hi Susie and Tim,
I just wanted to let both of you know what a wonderful time we had renting your cottage. The house was lovely and had all of the conveniences of home. We were really lucky with the weather. Although it was hot during the day, most nights it cooled down and was very comfortable for sleeping. One of the things we especially liked was the fact that although there were between 12 and 14 of us depending on the day, we never felt crowded because the living room was very spacious and the outdoor porches very roomy and comfy.
Our families are from both Europe (Holland & England) and the mid west (Michigan / Ohio), but we are both born in the US. Susie is one of 3 children, with many extended family across the midwest and the Silver Lake area. Tim is one of 9, mostly in the mid Atlantic, New England and Seattle areas, but there is a straggler that bounces between England and China (we still don't know what he does). The family continues to grow, both in the US and Europe, with the cottage as a great gathering spot.
We have lived in many areas, but call our ''work' home in the NYC metro area and upstate NY our want to be home.
We had visited Silver Lake for many years, grew to love the area and people and ultimately purchased the cottage. It had good bones, but had never really been substantially touched, good & bad. When first working with builders on improvement, they suggested 'urban renewal and put a torch to it', funny sense of humor they have. We actually hired the 'urban renewal' builders, and knew it was going to be a long term improvement plan. So we laid out general objectives, created annual plans and we were off. The majority of the work was done over about 8 years, but continued to stay and work during that time. If you stay, there are 7-8 mini photo albums showing before, during and after photo's, which we even marvel about what we were thinking when we got into it. It has become a family favorite, and look forward to using it for more weeks when we ever retire and if we ever have grand kids (ha ha). And yes, the 'urban renewal' guys are now good friends and continue with new improvements and fixing as needed.
The cottage benefits for us, was first being with family near by, and later more family & friends coming to visit. To us, the location is wonderful, great lake, west facing for sunsets and the ability to take long walks between the lake and cottages on what was an old railroad line, getting to know the neighbors. Having the cottage mostly untouched for over 100 years provided an opportunity to keep the old, with some new, that looks like old. Our newest favorites are the 2 fireplaces, inside & outside. The inside one, with a traditional arched look, stone facing and bluestone hearth & mantel is really a wood stove that can heat the entire cottage on chilly days in the early spring and late fall. Add all that with the 5 sets of speakers, 3 of them outside, great stereo and it's a place we never really want to leave. Why do we rent it? As with anything costs go up to maintain and taxes, but we were only there a handful of time a year and thought we would test the waters. Little did we know the great interest, and most important we now having many guests coming back year after year and booking into the future. More important is they feel and treat it like a home, which it is to us.
