Silver Lake Cottage Rental Photos and Description

6 bedrooms; 4 full bathrooms; sleeps 12 comfortably; boat lift available

Enjoy your vacation at our lovingly restored Lake Front Turn of the Century Victorian Cottage on idyllic Silver Lake.

The Finger Lakes are comprised of 10 lakes, if there were 11; Silver Lake would be the extra pinkie on the Western End

NOTE: Thank you for the 2015 bookings, only 1 week left in June peak period. For 2016, we will begin booking September 15.

Silver Lake is nestled in the rolling hills of Wyoming County, NY. The lake is 4 miles long, a mile wide and known for good fishing so don’t forget your poles

This cottage boasts 3 covered porches, plenty of outdoor dining and seating along with indoor & outdoor fireplaces. There is also a boat lift available if you bring your own boat (6.5' wide, 2,000 lb).

At Days end enjoy your favorite beverage watching the incredible Sunsets…no two are alike

An old fashion vacation with a step back in time

Although built around 1900, the home has been extensively rebuilt and restored, including all new bathrooms, kitchen, bar-room, 3 porches, indoor & outdoor fireplaces and refinished floors throughout.

A trully unique part of the ‘east’ side of the lake is the right of way 2+ mile walkway between the houses and lake, which until 40+ years ago had been a narrow guage railroad. This walkway takes you along the lake to the Silver Lake Institute, while getting to know the neighbors and and enjoying family time exercise.

Relax with an evening fire at one of the 2 fireplaces or with a bon fire lakeside with the portable firepit. Plenty of wood available.

Hope you like music, there is a great stereo on the 1st floor with 5 sets of speaker (3 outdoor), extensive (oldies) CD library and hookup for your ipod, iphone, ipad or other MP3 player. Additional surround sound system on 3rd floor.

All the bedrooms boast ceiling fans, along with the living room and bar room.

The ‘7th’ bedroom is actually the 3rd floor of the house we fondly refer to as: The Orphanage (also known as: Crow’s Nest, Adam’s Attic or Astro Lounge) Has 4 distinct areas, main room with large ‘L’ shaped couch and other seating, bed area with 4 'full size' beds creating a camp like setting, additional sitting area over looking the lake with large couch and 4 other chairs, and finally a full size bath. This area is a favorite with the kids (and sometimes the guys) to get away and enjoy the views and their own surround sound stereo.

We have renovated to be very family oriented, with the bedrooms, orphange, flow, porches, etc.. Until our renting this year, we also did not have a TV or internet (it's does now), and spent time catching up with family with games, music and enjoying what the house, community and area has to offer. It's been over 10 years and we have not tired of it, and is still a favorite for our families to gather, and hope it becomes one for your family too.

Dogs &/or cats must first discuss with owners, and if agreed there is a $50 fee per pet.

Other Area Activities:

• Letchworth State Park – The Grand Canyon of the East: hiking, rafting, 3 gorgeous falls, Museum, Glen Iris Inn - 5 miles

About Susie

Our families are from both Europe (Holland & England) and the mid west (Michigan / Ohio), but we are both born in the US. Susie is one of 3 children, with many extended family across the midwest and the Silver Lake area. Tim is one of 9, mostly in the mid Atlantic, New England and Seattle areas, but there is a straggler that bounces between England and China (we still don't know what he does). The family continues to grow, both in the US and Europe, with the cottage as a great gathering spot.

We have lived in many areas, but call our ''work' home in the NYC metro area and upstate NY our want to be home.

Susie purchased this cottage in 2003

Why Susie chose Silver Lake

We had visited Silver Lake for many years, grew to love the area and people and ultimately purchased the cottage. It had good bones, but had never really been substantially touched, good & bad. When first working with builders on improvement, they suggested 'urban renewal and put a torch to it', funny sense of humor they have. We actually hired the 'urban renewal' builders, and knew it was going to be a long term improvement plan. So we laid out general objectives, created annual plans and we were off. The majority of the work was done over about 8 years, but continued to stay and work during that time. If you stay, there are 7-8 mini photo albums showing before, during and after photo's, which we even marvel about what we were thinking when we got into it. It has become a family favorite, and look forward to using it for more weeks when we ever retire and if we ever have grand kids (ha ha). And yes, the 'urban renewal' guys are now good friends and continue with new improvements and fixing as needed.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage benefits for us, was first being with family near by, and later more family & friends coming to visit. To us, the location is wonderful, great lake, west facing for sunsets and the ability to take long walks between the lake and cottages on what was an old railroad line, getting to know the neighbors. Having the cottage mostly untouched for over 100 years provided an opportunity to keep the old, with some new, that looks like old. Our newest favorites are the 2 fireplaces, inside & outside. The inside one, with a traditional arched look, stone facing and bluestone hearth & mantel is really a wood stove that can heat the entire cottage on chilly days in the early spring and late fall. Add all that with the 5 sets of speakers, 3 of them outside, great stereo and it's a place we never really want to leave. Why do we rent it? As with anything costs go up to maintain and taxes, but we were only there a handful of time a year and thought we would test the waters. Little did we know the great interest, and most important we now having many guests coming back year after year and booking into the future. More important is they feel and treat it like a home, which it is to us.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Thank you for sharing your beautiful cottage with our family......your location on the lake and the surrounding countryside is breath taking......each of my children and their spouses and family were completely at home and relaxed for the 5 days we were.......lots of laughter, sharing of old stories and creating new memories happened all the time every day......the set up of your cottage invites a comfortable and thought sharing session each time someone settles into one of the fireplace chairs or veranda rockers.......because of kids athletic schedules and jobs our family had it's first chance to be totally together in about 12 years, so the fishing trips and marshmallow toasting sessions provided and opportunity to catch up on each other's lives......we would certainly entertain a return trip in a year or so if that was available to us......thanks again.....Doug

This is the first time we have all been together

under the same roof in many years. It was special for us all. We took advantage of the outdoor games available as well as fishing and hiking.

We hit one of the farmer stands for fresh produce and eggs. Very helpful hint. We stopped in East Aurora at a Tops for groceries, but found the store in Perry more that adequate for our needs.

We have a cottage on Lake Erie and we certainly understand what “cottage” life is all about. It is not always about the modern conveniences, but the character, charm and

peaceful ambience that slows the world down and gives you a chance to appreciate the little things in life that sometimes we take for granted.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our visit. There was not one thing that we would change.

Well, I have been quite long winded, but again, thank you so much for a memorable vacation. We have decided that we will try and do this trip every other year, so you may hear from us again. Kindest Regards, Jodie & Doug

  • 5 of 5

Once again, our family enjoyed our stay at the Silver Lake cottage. As the weather was cool, the fireplace made the cottage very hospitable. This was our third year, & we wouldn't hesitate to return. Thanks again to Susie & Tim for their thoughtfulness & cooperation.

Perfect Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our reunion brought together family members from Florida, Louisiana, Alberta and Ontario. Ages ranged from 6 to 90. This cottage absolutely met everyone's needs and then some. The location and views are spectacular. As soon as you walk in the door you get a warm, cozy feeling. The attention to detail is amazing. The décor is charming, comfy and modern where needed. You can definitely tell it is a well cared for and well loved home. There were 11 of us in total and there was plenty of space for all. We especially enjoyed the front porch overlooking the lake. The indoor and outdoor fireplaces where also a big hit as the evenings were cool. The owners were extremely helpful, answering all our questions and providing some very useful information about the cottage and surrounding area.

We have wonderful memories of our visit and hope to return for another reunion soon.

Lovely cottage rental for my son's wedding!

  • 5 of 5

Our family (12 of us) stayed at the cottage in early October on the occasion of my son's wedding at Letchworth State Park! The cottage is absolutely wonderful….cozy…lots of areas to be together and relax! The beds were very comfortable and four teens LOVED The Orphanage! We loved sitting on the front porch in the morning with coffee and we loved the outdoor fireplace for a curling up and having a cocktail! The wood stove was wonderful as the weather took a chilly turn while we were there! The cottage is minutes from Letchworth State Park; which is simply stunning! It was a perfect fit for our family and I was heralded as a star for finding it! The owners do everything possible to make sure you have a wonderful stay. I would love to stay here again (maybe in the summer so we could play in the lake!) and I would not hesitate to recommend this wonderful spot to anyone! Thank you Susie and Tim for a simply beautiful spot!

Annual Ladies' Hiking Week

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is fabulous - lots of charm and all of the amenities. Great communication with the owners before and during our stay. It is well located - easy drive from the border and close to wonderful Letchworth State Park. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a place to relax, play games, have a base for exploring the area. The woodstove/fireplace rates 5 stars on chilly fall evenings and mornings.

Sandy and her 8 hiking lady friends.

Love, love, love this house and lake

  • 5 of 5

This was our second trip to this "cottage". Silver Lake and the house were as lovely as ever, and we will definitely be back for a third trip soon. The owners continue to make every possible improvement, even though it's pretty hard to make this place even nicer. The new seaweed mats did make the swimming and wading really easy, and we enjoyed the new side porch addition. One day we ventured in boats to the south side of the lake for a bite to eat and an ice cream at the little restaurant on the lake. The walking path around the lake made for refreshing morning walks, and our kids learned how to fish while getting lots of practice each day off the dock. There was something for everyone! We can't wait to return!

Beautiful lake front home

  • 5 of 5

I was looking for the perfect spot to renew our wedding vows and I found this old-world, yet modernized home, right on Silver Lake. This home has charm and beauty with old stained windows. The deep porch is reminiscent of a southern plantation porch and has plenty of places for everyone to read or sit and watch the serene lake. The outdoor fireplace is stunning and the perfect cozy spot to roast s'mores... or to have a renewal ceremony. ;-) The bedrooms are decorated like a cottage and gives it that special B&B feel. The bar/den is also the perfect place for men to hide. ;) With plenty of water sports at your back step, you will have a relaxing time. Be sure to bring your good camera or even a telescope and do some star gazing. With minimal light pollution, it is the sweet spot to observe all kinds of constellations, or even a shooting star! You also have the perfect spot to watch sunsets, and you can even watch lightning hit the lake should a storm roll through. I was lucky enough to capture a stunning sunset, a shooting star, a rainbow, lightning on the lake and star trails on our vacation!! Near by, literally right down the road, there is mini golf, a drive-in movie theater, ice cream parlor and restaurant featuring really good food at the Charcoal Corral.

This home is beautiful and you can tell that Tim and Susie put a lot of work and love into it. Enjoy it!
