My wife and I got married in August, and we knew right away that we wanted to find somewhere tropical and secluded. After several internet searches, and a lot of deliberation, we settled on Puerto Rico, and then Culebra, and then Casa Yaboa's Tree Nest.
From the very beginning, it was just better than we could have ever imagined. Jacinto, the owner, was very good to us. He picked us up at the ferry in his Jeep and brought us to a Jeep/golf cart rental place. At first, just looking at the mileage, we foolishly thought we might be able to walk or bike the whole week. But at Jacinto's discretion, we got a golf cart, and we definitely needed it!
Casa Yaboa is a fairly long, but extremely pleasant drive from the town and dock. And we enjoyed making the drive every day. Every day we found something to explore, whether it was the world-famous Flamenco Beach, our own private Playa Brava, the extremely close-by Zoni Beach, the charming little museum that tells the island's history, or the little bay we could watch from the Tree Nest.
The house was everything we needed. We loved the outdoor shower and deck space. You really feel high up in the trees, and nothing in this world beats falling asleep and waking up to the gentle sounds of the Caribbean waves...
It was extremely private and secluded. Sometimes, on our deck, we felt like we were the only ones on the island. If privacy is your thing- make sure to check out Zoni Beach. Oftentimes, we were the only ones in sight. But Playa Brava is the real gem. Ask around about how to hike through the jungle for your own personal tropical paradise.
We loved the town too. Putting around in our little golf cart at night was the perfect way to spend the evenings. Just be aware that everything closes sort of early, so if you want to get something to eat, you'd better be on top of it or you'll have to go hungry. Speaking of eating, Jacinto's place, Susie's was great, but it was expensive. We highly recommend Zaco's Tacos, and above all else, Heather's Pizza. The pizza and atmosphere were highly unique, and something we have talked about every week since our trip.
Culebra is beautiful, and the Tree Nest is the perfect place to experience it in. We'll remember it forever.
Trees Nest was one of the best places we have ever stayed, in my new favorite place in the world - Culebra! The cottage was clean, well-appointed, comfortable and tastefully decorated. It was very private and tranquil, surrounded by nature. I wish I had recorded the sound of the waves gently crashing into shore, which you can hear from your cottage as you lay in bed. Prior to arriving, my communication with Jacinto was great and he even took us by a grocery store after picking us up from the airport.
Casa Yaboa is very secluded but you can be in Town within 20 minutes by golf cart, and less than 10 minutes to the pristine Zoni Beach. There's a small kitchen so you can cook your meals there, or ride into town and dine at one of the surprisingly good restaurants, like Susie's (owned by the owners of Casa Yaboa), or the Dinghy Dock. I can't imagine a better place to stay in Culebra. For my complete review with pictures, search online for "Six Water Grog + Casa Yaboa - Culebra, PR".
After spending a week on Vieques, this place was a very welcome peaceful retreat. Host Jacinto met us at the airport and led us through town to point out the stores/restraunts/etc. before taking us to Casa Yaboa. The Tree Nest was the perfect cozy size for my husband and I. We made quick use of the kayaks to take a tour of the cove and saw fish, starfish and even a hawksbill turtle! Full of nature, gentle waves, beautifully landscaped gardens and hermit crabs galore, this was my idea of paradise. Would be stay here again? In a heartbeat. We loved the slower pace, quiet Culebra Island. The house was very clean, decorated nicely, had a beautiful deck and everything we needed to make our stay perfect!
This magical lace is just perfect, Spectacular views, your own private beach perfect for snorkeling (although rocky for bathing) where we saw an awesome arrange of marine life since it is a protected area and no fishing is allowed within the premises, barracudas, stingrays and much much more just a few kicks off the shore. The only not so great thing I can say is that the barking dog gets in the way of the peaceful silence and the sound of the waves.
The hosts are wonderful people, very helpful and extremely friendly. They also own the Susie's restaurant, where Susie, the owner, is also the chef ( and may I add that she is a VERY good one too).
Overall this was the best vacation I've had in in my life, it was just the perfect romantic escapade that we will never forget but surely will love to repeat.
Great place to stay. You need to rent a car to get there. It is very private. Jacinto is a great host and he can help you with anything you need. The house is small but it has everything you need for a short stay. The property faces the water however the near beach is about 5 min driving (zoni beach). There is no air conditioning;it can get kind of warm during the day, but the wind makes it cool and comortable at night. The house is very clean. I would stay there again.
I recently had the pleasure of staying for ten days at Tree Nest, one of two vacation rental apartments owned by Susie and Jacinto. To say it was a wonderful time would not do it justice. Tree Nest is a one-bedroom unit with kitchenette and full bath. It is surrounded by trees and you truly feel like you're in a nest with an ocean view. There are two outdoor decks with Tree Nest, perfect for enjoying morning coffee, afternoon cocktails or sunbathing. The interior decor is beautifully done with a large comfortable bed and two-person seating area. Large and small pictures hang on walls done in pastel Caribbean colors. Ceiling fans and ocean breezes provide all the air anyone could want. The Casa Yaboa property is located right on the beach, perfect for swimming or just beach walking, and faces west for spectacular Culebra sunsets. All of Casa Yaboa is beautifully maintained and kept very clean. The grounds have many tropical trees, plants and flowers.
Susie and Jacinto are gracious hosts, always happy to help or answer questions, but not at all intrusive to those who want privacy. Privacy, friendliness and beauty make a stay at Tree Nest the perfect Caribbean vacation. I would heartily recommend it to anyone.
Additionally, Susie is a gourmet chef and Susie's Restaurant in town is the one restaurant that should not be missed during a Culebra vacation.
