Le Gallerie occupies one of the most breathtaking positions in St Lucia or even the whole of the Caribbean. Perched 300ft above the Caribbean Sea it sits looking straight at the magnificent Pitons across Soufriere Bay. Vast living areas are provided both inside the house and around the infinity edge swimming pool. A 60 foot sitting room and covered veranda provide ample relaxation space for entertaining and unwinding.
All five double en-suite bedroom suites have direct Piton views and their own balcony areas. The horizon from the house also sweeps round to the setting sun offering one of the most amazing and romantic locations imaginable.
A private path leads down 300feet to a stony beach which is directly on one of the islands marine dive reserves. Please see more pictures on www.stlucia-villa-legallerie.com
Location: Le Gallerie occupies one of the most stunning locations in the West Indies. Perched on a promontory called Lookout Point, 300 feet above the Caribbean Sea, it faces due south to the majestic Pitons. The view is breathtaking, extending 180 degrees from Soufriere Bay, across the Pitons, St Vincent and around to the setting sun in the west.
Clouds drifting in from the Atlantic on the eastern side of the island can produce ever changing light conditions to illuminate the Pitons as they rise 2,500 feet out of the clear sea, the colour of which varies from brilliant turquoise to deep blue.
This most amazing and dynamic of panoramas provides a magnificent backdrop for the beautiful and charming house, making it a wonderful place to entertain, relax and unwind.
Space to relax and unwind: The magnificent living areas provide ample space for entertaining or quiet corners for peace and quiet to read and unwind. The gargantuan (60” x 30”) sitting room has a polished hardwood floor and large white sofas.
The end third of the sitting room is a covered veranda with views of the Pitons and across the deck and pool area to the west. A perfect place to sip rum punch and watch the sun go down.
There are two large TVs with DVD, one with home cinema, and an iPod docking station. A growing collection of paper back books is being constantly added to by our guests. Cards and some classic board games are also available.
Pool and facilities: A focal point is a 30 foot long infinity edge swimming pool and extensive deck area shaped like the stern of a steamer. Below the house a steep path and steps lead down to a secluded stone and pebble beach on a marine reserve with beautiful diving.
Please note the site is not suitable for the physically challenged or young children as there are many steps, as well as cliff edges.
The kitchen has a five burner gas hob, Neff oven, larder fridge, large freezer, drinks fridge, ice maker, ice cream maker, toaster, microwave and a full set of cooking and eating utensils for parties of twelve. Two sinks offer preparation and clearing areas.
There is a downstairs shower room, sink, bidet and toilet. All bathrooms have showers.
Outside the kitchen and dining room is a substantial brick BBQ and bottle gas ring, ideal for a barbecued fish supper or a quick omelet at breakfast.
Electrical outlets are UK three pin sockets. Power is 240 volt 50Hz. Shaver sockets are provided.
We left North Carolina and our 4 kids behind to celebrate our 15th anniversary and had a week in paradise. Having been to many exotic locations and third world countries, I didn't think there was a place on the planet where I wouldn't mind renting a car - but I couldn't imagine driving on some of the roads there. It's not a negative, because Bernard was such a great personal driver that we never worried at all. The pictures from the website are true to life, in fact, it's even better in person. You literally feel like there is no one else on the island once the staff leave for the day, and having looked at all the villa options for Souffriere, Gallerie clearly has the most impressive view of the Pitons out of all. Plus, we were greeted by a rainbow on our arrival! The weather was perfect every day, the food excellent thanks to our very capable and friendly house staff. We never ate out since we had such great cooks on site and never did any activities on the island other than swimming at the pool, down at their rocky beach (great snorkeling!) and at Anse Chastanet (an easy walk down that seems a little longer coming up but is very doable). We did, however, hike the Gros Piton and were amazed that anyone can make that climb. It's more of a compilation of 4-6 foot boulders all the way up the mountain, than a trail. We are an athletic couple and found it to be quite a challenge! Of course, we tried to keep up with our 15 year-old gazelle, I mean guide, who leaped up the rocks and boulders like they were nothing! He offered to slow down, but we take opportunities like that to become 'weekend warriors' and try to pretend we're not really 40 years old any more. All in all, it was a fantastic trip and the owners were extremely helpful in answering all of our questions, concerns and they were very accommodating. We would recommend this villa very highly (where else can you lay on a hammock inside the house while hummingbirds drink nectar from the vast array of purple flowers only a few feet above you!) It really is surreal. I wish I could post pictures in this review, but the owners provide excellent ones and don't leave anything lacking. Someday we hope to return with all of our children so we can put all of the bedrooms and staff to even better use (I know they want to come), but then again a nice break from reality with just the two of us in paradise - at Le Gallerie again - would be a really nice treat for our 20th...
From our garden we have a steep path down to a secluded stone beach which is on a marine dive reserve and is ideal for snorkeling. The nearest sand beach is at Anse Chastenet which is about 15 minutes walk.
The lovely town of Soufriere is about 30 minutes walk or 5 minutes by car and has a collection of local bars, restaurants and shops. The town's beach is sandy and often used in tourist photos.
Diving instruction is available from the beach by a wonderful diving instructor.
Around the town are attractions such as the Piton Water Fall and the lava springs (the only drive through volcano in the world). Beyond the town is the rain forest, which remains pretty much unchanged for 100,000 years, the more rugged Atlantic cost and other coastal villages to visit.
