Borgo Sicelle is a small farm in the area of the Chianti Classico.
Its history began 14 years ago: we were repairing the roof of the beautiful church of Sicelle, when we heard that the property right next to it was on sale. We liked it immediately and shortly afterwards we bought it. With the passing of time we have renovated it, leaving unaltered the typical Tuscan style of its architecture and restoring 10 apartments to rent. The position of the house is wonderful: on the top of a hill and with a great view over vineyards, olive groves and forests. From here you can admire evocative sunsets while sipping a glass of good wine.
Franco and his family live here as well and they are pleased to welcome their guests for a short or long holiday full of culture (Florence 27 km, Siena 35 km, San Gimignano 25 km), relaxation and delights of good food and they are always at their disposal for suggestions and advices.
We are at Sicelle, 10 km from (and under the borough concil of ) Castellina in Chianti. The nearest village is S.Donato in Poggio (3 km) with its shops, restaurants, pizzeria, banks and a post office.
We are 6 km from the highway exit of the Florence-Siena highway (superstrada) allowing convenient excursions to Florence (27 km), Siena (35 km), S.Gimignano (25 km), Volterra (50 km), Pisa (90 km), Arezzo (100 km), Lucca (110 km).
If you wish to drive around the Chianti area Panzano (8 km), Greve (18 km) and Radda (20 km) are a must.
At guests disposal:
Bed and bathroom linen and kitchen teatowel (weekly change), final cleaning, hair-drier, water, gas, electricity, shared swimming pool use, car park, table tennis, barbecue, wood oven, washing machine, children’s amusements. On request iron.
Most of the apartments have a sofa bed where a child (maximum 12 years old) may sleep without extra charge.
All bedrooms have a ceiling fan.
Some of our double beds can be turned into single beds.
Baby cots are available for children up to 3 years old.

According to recent statistics the word “Chianti” is, on all continents and at all latitudes, a synonym for Tuscany. There’s indeed no travel lover on this planet who has not heard about the famous Tuscan hills yet, where the most renowned red wine is produced: the Chianti, which we can easily recognize by its characteristic label of the black rooster (gallo nero).
For modern travellers “Chianti” is not only a geographic indication but also a word that describes a certain lifestyle, sober and elegant, a harsh and evocative landscape made of forests, vineyards and olive groves, a land that has given birth to famous personages, a land where every village is a little masterwork of architecture: from Greve to Panzano, from Castellina to Gaiole, from Radda to San Casciano, from Castelnuovo Berardegna to Vagliali.
Tuscan people are capricious and they have always been quarrelling about the Chianti: many identify it with the “Chianti Classico”, that is the area of production of the homonymous Docg wine; others instead indicate a wider area, but it’s always situated between the provinces of Florence and Siena.
And not by chance these two cities have fought against each other for centuries. But in reality the Chianti and his inhabitants have always had and still have their own, precise and independent identity, culture and way of thinking. Already in the 14th century they founded the “Lega del Chianti” (Chianti league), a military alliance which, on the pretext of ratifying the friendship with Florence, in reality guaranteed the unity of the territory. This territory is indeed very homogeneous regarding its history, its traditions, feelings and its way of speaking and cooking.
With the common denominator – wine – the kitchen of the Chianti sums up the gastronomic traditions of Siena (stew made of the Chianina beef) and Florence (the famous steak), the use of the extra virgin olive oil (the oil of the Chianti has got the label for the guarantee of origin “DOP”), the virtues of the robust, rural gastronomy and the famous cold meats of its VIP-butchers.
But the Chianti is also a territory which is rich in culture that can be discovered step by step wandering the little streets and exploring the numerous villages, castles and abbeys that are hidden behind every corner: from the abbey of Passignano to the enchanted village of Montefioralle, from the parish church of San Leonino to the castle of Brolio and up to the high grounds of Monteluco.
