Photos and Description of the Buonconvento vacation farmhouse rental

Imagine a huge space, so big as to seem infinite. a blaze of lights and colours, the primitive and unspoilt nature of the Crete (Sienese clayhills) surrounds you. It is a matter of seconds, but the emotion provoked by such a suggestive landscape will open up previously-unknownsensory horizons inside you. Words are no longer necessary to make you understand because you will feel your being in harmony with everything, spellbound by the regenerating force of nature. If you are looking for a place to relax and unwind, to feel amazement from a glance towards the skyline, or a walk, or some woodland animal crossing your path, for a sunset caressed by the fresh evening breeze, to experience emotion for fascinating and amazing artistic places immersed in such unique, calm and silent environments, COME TO the FARMHOUSE CUNINA in BUONCOVENTO, and you enjoy the Tuscan countryside. We offer 7 apartments: 2 with 2 bedrooms and 5 with 1 bedroom. The owner lives in the premises. At guests' disposal: Baby bed and high chair available free fo charge. Wi-Fi internet connection available free of charge Distances: Buonconvento with all kind of shops at 3 km. The Sienese Clay Hills are found to the south-east of Siena. This hilly, clay area - sometimes referred to as 'the Tuscan desert' - forms part of the municipalities of Asciano, Buonconvento, Monteroni d'Arbia, Rapolano Terme e S.Giovanni d'Asso. Until 2.5 millions years ago the area was under the sea. When the water receded, irregular sediments of clay and sand, containing fossils emerged. The slow erosion process generated many coves called "calanchi" or "biancone" and small dome-shaped hills with a peculiar light colour. The ground has amazing colours and is so maleable that anyone passing over it leaves tracks. Livestock paths, numerous vineyards, olive-groves, truffle-grounds, and lush forests with oaks, ilexes, broom and hawthorn can be seen here.. Travelling along the rural dirt roads, often located on hill ridges, seems like sailing among waves of earth and, when overlooked by an open sky and pushed by the wind, one feels very small. This land is crossed by the ancient Via Cassia road and is part of the Francigena pilgrims' route. It is rich with old parish-churches, abbeys, and ancient farmhouses and thermal springs, as well as travertine quarries which gave birth to the famous local handicrafts. Due to their peculiar landscape and the abundance of artistic and historical references, the Sienese Clay Hills are among the most famous and photographed environments in Italy. Set between the hills, the fields of grain and the cypress trees, the Clay Hills are a countryside heritage protected by UNESCO. Here mass tourism doesn't exist, it would be destructive and would devastate the intimacy and harmony eminating from these hills. In recent yeats efforts havebeen made to renovate local farmhouses and restart crop cultivation, which was abandoned in the '60s and '70s following industrial development. These rural smallholdings live again and often offer hospitality to tourists from all over the world as farm-holiday property and locations. This apartment has: living room with kitchen and 2 large bedrooms on the first flat with a complete bathroom. In the living room there is another toilette (just wc and washbasin). total: 75 square meters Panoramic scenery. Garden furniture outside the flat for occupants' use. On the ground floor - vaulted ceiling, and on the first floor - thermally-insulated roof with terracotta tiles and exposed rafters. Underfloor, geothermal central heating. Podere Cunina Stay

5 of 5
Submitted: April 28, 2013 Stayed: April 2013
The only way to describe this journey for us is to say that if ever someone stayed in our home that we would wish that they would have the experience that we did. This was the best way to spend a week exploring all that Tuscany has to offer. You are close to many sights, Buonconvento is close for grocery and banking and yet it is far enough away from the cities that it was very relaxing and quiet. Piergiorgio and Marcello were excellent hosts. Others that were guests (they have several apartments) were very cordial as well. As an agritourismo, you get to see a bit of what rural Italian life is like. We stayed at Taxus which is a very private one bedroom on the ground level. I hope that one day they will visit the US and we can be their host!
