About Shelly Rae

My husband tells me I am a chronic home improver. This property started it all. I purchased this property when I had been working as an electrical engineer for too many years. I wanted to create something that was functional and beautiful with a history worth preserving and telling. The building was exactly 100 years old when I bought it. It drew me in the minute I saw it. It took over 10 years to finish, and in the meantime I married and had a son who moved in and helped me with all the unexpected challenges. Eventually it paid off and we have the wonderful feeling of having saved something completely unique and worth saving.

Why Shelly Rae chose Santa Monica

I loved the stories of the many families who lived on this property. There are two houses and one cottage along with gardens. It started out as a church, then a school. In WWII it was used to cram as many workers in as possible for the war effort. In the 70's and 80's it was a surfer colony. It is in a fantastic historic ocean Park neighborhood. One of the few neighborhoods where lots still have gardens. It is close to thriving, always interesting Main Street, and the beach.

What makes this apartment unique

Privacy in the middle of everything. This property is on a one way street next door to a church, so the density on the street is relatively low, especially considering you are so close to so many wonderful shops and beach activities. Bus lines are within one block. Walk to the beach every day or night. Enjoy the community garden on the property. Enjoy the refreshing ocean breeze, and you won't believe how private it feels considering you are so close to the best of Santa Monica.
