Outstanding country quiet

  • 5 of 5

The Lodge has five large, well-furnished bedrooms, each with en suite facilities; as well, there is a large bathroom with a full bath. There is also a free-standing self-catering cottage with two bedrooms and two baths. The standard of housekeeping, furnishings and linens is exceptional. Landlady Imelda Sheedy, a fine and friendly person, seems to have an endless supply of scones. The buildings are 200 yards north of a regional road, so the country quiet is broken only by the sound of birdsong. Pastures surround this old farmstead; sometimes one or two may be occupied by fattening cattle, at other times the grass is left to recover. The soft contours of the Ballyhoura Mountains with their cycling and walking tracks are about two miles south. The air is fresh and Atlantic-clean. We'd go there again, and not hesitate for a second to recommend it to good friends.

Perfect stay to visit family and friends

  • 5 of 5

Visiting Ireland in February is always a risk but driving up the lovely drive to this lodge reassured us whatever the weather we would have a lovely stay. I am a little obsessed with scones so being met by Imelda with freshly baked scones and apple tart was bliss. The house was just perfect for our needs, originally from this area but now with an expanding family we like to stay somewhere close to the neighbouring towns where our family and friends live. The lodge was the perfect location and the furnishings and layout of the inside were exactly what we needed with quality bed linen and electric blankets which my husband loved. Our 2 year old son also loved seeing cows every day ! I can only imagine in nicer weather that the setting would be delightful. Imelda is so helpful and a superb baker, she also showed us the large house and this is just stunning. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting to stay in the area and experience real Irish hospitality. We will definitely stay again.

Simply wonderful

  • 5 of 5

This was an excellent place to stay. The location puts it driving-distance from several places to visit. The lodge itself was wonderful; a little house all to ourselves for a week. Imelda was a great host, and the property was clean and quiet. Free WiFi is excellent! We spent a week here, husband/wife and 20-month daughter.

Nice lodge, wonderful hostess, farm setting

  • 5 of 5

My wife and teenage son and myself stayed in the lodge for 12 nights in June 2014. We had a nice time. The lodge itself, in terms of the interior accommodations and furnishings, are top notch for Ireland. Quality sheets, nice baths, clean rooms, and plenty of windows.

Imelda the hostess is fantastic. She always inquired if we needed anything and was always available if needed; but like others said, she is not at all intrusive and allows for your privacy. Like others we very much enjoyed her great scones and she even made us a rhubarb tart!

The caveats: 1. The lodge is sited directly in front of a working cattle farm, so you should expect strong barnyard odors when the winds shift your way. Also it's entirely a bull herd so you'll get plenty of bucking and bellowing in the front meadow. 2. The nearby town of Kilmallock is not a tourist town, it is what I'd consider a typical rural Irish village, and the effects of a rough economy are apparent there. That also means that if you like upscale meals you'll either be making them yourself, or traveling to other towns like Bruff, Adare, Charleville.

The highlights of our stay were our day trip to Kinsale (great food and wine, nice harbor town). We also visited the nearby (30 min drive) Adare Manor a few times, once for cocktails and once for falconry, which though expensive was totally worth it. I recommend as well the mountain bike trails at Ballyhoura forest, my son and I had a blast there too. Lastly, our breakfast sendoff by Imelda was the best in Ireland.

The Perfect Ireland Home Away from Home

  • 5 of 5

We spent two wonderful weeks at Flemingstown Lodge in June 2014 and consider it the perfect accommodation for visiting the endless attractions in Southwest Ireland. The Cliffs of Moher, Ring of Kerry, Dingle Peninsula, Galway Bay, Limerick, Cork, Blarney, Tipperary, and many others are within easy driving distance. We were traveling with another couple, close friends, and the Lodge fit our needs perfectly. We each had our own private bedroom and bathroom, and the living area was ideal. Furnishings include a luxurious leather recliner set - a three cushion sofa and two large recliner lounge chairs. Returning to the lodge after a busy day of sightseeing was an indescribable pleasure. The Lodge truly felt like our home away from home, and the main reason was the wonderful hospitality of Imelda Sheedy-King, the owner of the Lodge and adjacent large country guest house. Imelda is an amazing hostess, always ready to help with information on places to visit, area restaurants, nearby doctors, etc., but never intrusive. One morning she treated us to a scone making demonstration in her guest house kitchen, and her scones are by far the best we found anywhere. If we ever get an opportunity to return to the area, we would not spend one minute looking for any other self-catering accommodation. Thank you, Imelda, for wonderful memories that we will cherish the rest of our lives.

Cute little house that was close to many areas.

  • 5 of 5

I traveled to County Limerick with my two daughters the 2nd week of March. Imelda is a wonderful hostess who was very kind, but also didn't want to be a bother. I enjoyed her very much.

We had everything we needed to be comfortable during our stay; two bedrooms with two full baths, kitchen, washer and dryer and wifi.

The house was perfectly located for day trips across the southern part of Ireland. We traveled to Blarney, Waterford, the Ring of Kerry, Dingle Peninsula, Fork as well as other cities and small villages. If I were to return, I would definitely stay here again.
