Lauterbrunnen Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Overlooking meadows and mountains, sunny terrace, free WiFi, BBQ, 91m2

A modern stylish apartment with spectacular unobstructed views of the Alps. The large sunny terrace has a unique position at the very edge of the village in one of the world’s most dramatic valleys. Beyond are alpine meadows and hiking trails over streams, rising to high alpine pastures. In summer the BBQ and patio furniture are perfect for relaxation. French windows look out from a large lounge and dining area, comfortably furnished in oak and leather, with cosy underfloor heating. A luxury kitchen includes granite surfaces, dishwasher and microwave. Bathroom and bedrooms are to an equally high standard. Other features include level access, free WiFi internet, cable TV/DVD, washing machine/drier, private garage and ski room. A cross country ski trail skirts close by, with a skating rink 200m back towards the village (tennis courts in summer). The skibus (100m) puts the international ski areas of Wengen and Murren within easy reach by cable car or the Eiger Northface cog-railway.

Winter Holidays for non-skiers: Whilst famous for it's skiing, the Lauterbrunnen Valley is equally ideal for other winter activities, including just absorbing the fantastic scenery. Access to mountain restaurants couldn't be easier due to the network of mountain cog-railways and cable cars. For the more energetic extensive trails are maintained for snow-shoe trekking and there are over 50 kms of toboggan runs. There is also a local heli-skiing pad, paragliding, ice skating, ice climbing and ice go-karting. In addition Lauterbrunnen is the starting point for one of the world's most dramatic train rides by rack and pinion railway, through the snow fields of Kleine Scheidegg and the Eiger northface to emerge at Europe's highest railway station at Jungfraujoch, providing direct access onto Europes longest glacier, the Aletschglacier. For more down to earth activities local trains run into the heart of great shopping at Grindelwald and Interlaken and a little further afield to Thun and Bern, Switzerland's capital city. ************************************************************************************************************************************ Lauterbrunnen in Spring and Summer: Many of Lauterbrunnen's winter attractions are equally attractive in Spring and Summer, not least the mountain restaurants and the ride up past the Eiger to Jungfraujoch and the Aletschglacier (see Winter Holidays above). However the melting snow also reveals swathes of magnificent alpine flowers and a vast range of hiking trails. Wild ibex, marmots and chamois can be found in the more remote uplands, whilst golden eagles, wall creeper, nutcracker and red kites are amongst the rarer birds frequently seen. Cycle routes vary from gentle routes along the valley bottom to tough tracks over mountain passes. For more sedate pastimes traditional Swiss culture is regularly on show, from yodelling to folk dancing, alpine horns and Swiss bands. Local hero William Tell is also celebrated throughout the summer at the open air theatre in Interlaken. In addition a number of beaches and lidos can be found dotted around the huge adjoining lakes, as well an open-air pool back in the village.************************************************************************************************************** Wheelchair Access: The apartment is suitable for people who may be less physically able or for those with young children, with level access throughout and a large flat terrace. Wheelchair users will find that doors are wide and the hallways , bathroom and corridors are roomy. Although there is a small step at the entrance to the building(5cms), the approach is level and there are suitable footpaths throughout the valley, including back to the village. The cable cars, trains and buses are generally equally user friendly.

We booked this apartment for a week from 29May to 5June. As soon as we got in, we decided to stay longer and made it a 10-day stay.

Words are not enough to describe this place and it is every bit of what is mentioned in the description by the property owner. It is surrounded by mountains, with a view of 3 large waterfalls (the biggest of all Staubach falls is just walking distance). The apartment is surrounded by flush green meadows which were blooming during this time of the year. There is plenty of light till 9 -10pm and evenings are perfect to sit out and fill yourself with the views of the surroundings.

LauterBrunnen itself is an extremely charming town. It is away from the crowds of excessively commercialised places like Interlaken yet, it has enough happening around it. Quite a few restaurants (about 10min walk from the apartment).

Train station is a 20min walk (5-7 min by bus which is frequent) but since we had our own car, it is was so easy to get to town and back. There is a fuel station, Coop (grocer) right in front of the station.

Air-glaciers who provide Heli-sightseeing is just 300mts across. You can see several people paragliding on bright days.

The apartment itself has 2 bedrooms (1 master bedroom and 1 kids room). A living + dining room with open kitchen.

The kitchen is very well stocked with 4-stove, microwave, oven, kettle, all utensils etc.

There is a TV, ipod dock, comfortable sofas, 4-chair +table for the patio and everything you would expect in a self-serviced apartment.

The owner of the property lives in UK but she was very prompt with her responses and help. She has a local property manager who lives just across the street (in case you need any urgent help).

Overall, if you are planning a vacation anywhere around the Alps, forget the usual spots like Interlaken. Just come to LauterBrunnen and stay at this place.

This is a luxurious apartment in a stunning setting. My wife and I and our two children stayed there in February 2010 and loved it. We often talk about it as the best ski holiday we ever had, and often say we must go back some day. I was searching for this year's holiday in another area, and came across this listing, and felt I had to write.

This apartment is superb, and the scenery is stunning. I read "The White Spider" there while looking up at the Eiger. We watched James Bond in the exact same places we were that day! If you want to be out on the slopes from the moment they open, then this is probably not for you. But if you love a ski holiday along with the chance to appreciate the area, and enjoy the train ride, then this will be hard to beat anywhere.

We have enjoyed every day at your apartment Sue! It felt like coming home. Thank you for the nice bottle of wine, chocolate and coffee. The apartment is very clean, the beds are so nice, the couch is very nice, the terrace with the magnificent view(s) is fantastic! Every day we saw the parapainters coming down. You don't need a car to explore the surrounding. We only used the care once! The surrounding is so beautiful with the Eiger, Jungfraujoch, Kleine Scheidegg, Trummelbachfalle, Schilthorn (James Bond) etc. etc. etc. Our children did not want to go home....They loved the apartment. And please give our best to your local agent Kathy. She was so nice when we arrived late and something got wrong with the key. She could not help it and please tell her i am sorry for not being so nice to her. Thanks again and maybe next year again.

Perfectly placed flat, looking south, down valley toward the peaks. The apartment was well equipped, spotless, and roomy. The kitchen was well laid out and made it easy to cook at home.

The apartment deserves its consistently high reviews. It is a wonderful base for exploring the area. A bus stop is five minutes away; the town and train are twenty. Lifts and cog trains at both ends of the valley take you up to countless vistas and walks. The valley itself is worth exploring and should not be overlooked for higher ground. For rainy days, connections for Thun, Bern, and Lucerne are simple. Or just sit on the patio and read--in one of the prettiest places on earth.

Our family of 4 had an absolutely brilliant time in the chalet over Christmas 2011. The chalet was so warm, comfortable and so well set out, with everything we could reasonably have asked for. It was spacious, with an excellent kitchen and dining area and comfortable settees and chairs. There was excellent storage space throughout and everything was so clean and well cared for. The scenery was simply stunning. If we hadn't been skiing we could have sat and looked up along the valley all day long. The location is perfect for allowing access to so many ski areas. The bus stops in either direction are only a few minutes from the chalet. The shop and restaurant in the nearby campsite were so convenient. The garage was great for keeping the car snow free and the ski room was excellent for storing the skis and poles each night. We would recommend this chalet to everybody without any hesitation. We hope to go back to Switzerland in the future and we would love to stay in this chalet again. This was simply a superb holiday and one that we will never forget.

Thanks very much for providing an excellent flat! It was very comfortable, warm and clean. Even my mother, a stickler for cleanliness and good quality furnishings, has raved about it (she recommended it to us).

We were wondering what it would be like to be at the bottom of the valley for a skiing holiday, but in the end were surprised how easily we were able to get up on to the slopes. The Swiss are brilliant at connecting up buses with trains. The big advantage is definitely having two completely different resorts, Murren and Wengen to ski from. Three, really - the slopes down to Grindelwald are fantastic. From Murren the Winteregg runs are especially nice.

Some locals I spoke to said this is more a summer place than a winter one, which I can see. The ones we spoke to raved about the walking. We definitely want to come back in the summertime!

In terms of practicalities, we were a bit fed up about the walk into the town Co-Op for food, until we realised there's a decent shop at the campsite just around the corner (literally two minutes). That made a big difference...

My wife always says I should include something negative, so I shall venture a little criticism of the artwork in the main living room. Though if you like squirly coloured circles and not much else, you won't have a problem at all.

The best thing is definitely the view - simply sensational and breathtaking. Nothing blocks you from looking up the whole valley to the mountains at the end of it. It's like something from Lord of the Rings. Don't forget it when you shut the curtains at night - it's best of all in moonlight.

PS - and I consider this essential, even if my wife doesn't - the shower water pressure is excellent... (the most important thing of all)

Owner's Response: I should add that it is a ten to fifteen minute walk to the co-op supermarket which is directly opposite Lauterbrunnen train station- convenient when coming down from the mountains at the end of the day and only a few minutes away by car or bus. (I would also say that the 'artwork' referred to has long been a subject of family debate but personally I love it .)

The village provides a range of shops and restaurants, a ten minute stroll away along the river. A well stocked local store offers most things 7 days a week, including fresh bread. Other local facilities include nearby tennis courts and cycle hire. Outdoor swimming pool, paragliding, rock climbing, white water rafting and mountain biking are all local, with excellent golf at Interlaken. Visits to historic towns and lakes like Bern, Thun and Lucerne are all convenient, as are many famous mountain passes. But the main reason for coming to the Lauterbrunnen Valley is the scenery, 72 waterfalls, spectacular mountain railways, diverse wildlife, glacial valleys, the Eiger, the Jungfrau and UNESCO World Natural Heritage designation. The area is however very accessible by Eurorail, motorway and train to 3 international airports; Geneva, Basel and Zurich. (For more on the immediate area google Eurocamp Lauterbrunnen Camping-Jungfrau)

Other Activities: white water rafting, base jumping, birdwatching, flora and fauna

Ski: The skiing is rivalled only by the scenery, probably the most spectacular in Europe. Lauterbrunnen is also the only place in the Jungfrau ski region with equally easy access to both Wengen and Murren, both car free villages sitting on the cliff tops on opposite sides of the valley. Murren, the birthplace of downhill skiing, has an international reputation as an elegant, true alpine village. It can be reached by either of two efficient cable cars rising up from the Lauterbrunnen Valley floor. Wengen is even more famous, being the home of the Lauberhorn, the longest downhill World Cup race, run annually in January. The whole area has great skiing for all levels, with 230km of pistes, rising to nearly 3000m, and 50km of sledging. It also offers the added excitement of skiing below the North face of the Eiger and from the revolving restaurant at the top of the Schilthorn, made famous as the location for the James Bond film 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service'.
