Mesa neighborhoods are loved for their proximity to Santa Barbara's local beaches, quiet neighborhoods, and amazing ocean views. This quaint home will surprise and delight guests with its rustic cabin feel blended with upscale, contemporary amenities.
Located on a quiet acre in a private 5 acre enclave, the home was once home to a former University Professor whose art and book collection still remain. It is a very special spot and has a warm and welcoming appeal.
The home was recently restored (2014) with a mind to keep the original 1930's beach cabin look and feel. This understated masterpiece features original knotty pine paneling, all new furnishings, select precious antiques, and brand new oriental rugs in 1930's style. The owners' design aesthetic is steeped in a desire to maintain the traditional rustic feel of a remote cabin, but richly appointed for today's discriminating traveler.
Perched on the bluffs above the blue Pacific, there is no question where the heart of this home is...anywhere a window faces the sweeping ocean and island views. A brand new spa sits on the oceanfront terrace offering a relaxing reward after a long run on the beach, or, a busy day of sightseeing. The surrounding yard with pathways of brick and garden beds filled with blooming flowers and tropical plantings add the finishing exclamation point to a home that displays true pride of ownership.
The Dining Room features a fireplace, a wall of windows, and a wonderful supply of special dishes and serving pieces to set an amazing table. The sunset from here will be the only dessert one needs!
The newly remodeled kitchen was professionally designed for ease of use. Its antiqued blue finished cabinetry mirrors the blue Pacific. The kitchen was designed with outdoor eating and entertaining in mind.
The Living Room is appointed with new white linen couches that face the fireplace and a large flat screen TV. Walls are lined with vintage books of classic English and American literature - many dating back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
All bedrooms are outfitted with luxury linens. Each feels romantic and special. The Master Bedroom offers a fireplace and a walk-in closet. Bedroom #2, with a king-size bed, faces backyard views and opens to a large deck overlooking lush gardens. Bedroom #3, with 2 full-size beds, shares the same views and deck.
There are two Hall Bathrooms, one with a bathtub and walk-in shower; the other with a shower/tub combination.
Set apart from the main house, ensconced in the garden, is a redwood Garden House. This sweet spot is perfect as an escape to just sit and read or, for vacationing/working professionals, a quiet place to get some work done. This one room getaway has cable internet and a portable space heater - no water or bathroom facilities. It also comes with a pair of blue Jays that may occasionally be looking for a handout of peanuts!
This beloved home will have happy travelers returning year after year. Island View Cottage is sure to become everyone's favorite 'home away from home' above the blue coastal waters with captivating island views in the distance!
