Coco Solo sits on a nice-sized yard with banana trees and a single coconut palm. It offers a covered porch with outdoor seating and dining area complete with a Gas grill. Inside, the 3 bedrooms have queen beds, ceiling fans, ample closet space and AC for your sleeping comfort. The Master Suite is a larger space with a queen bed, private bath, writing desk, ceiling fan, ample closet space, and AC for your sleeping pleasure.
The rest of the house is tastefully decorated and boasts ceiling fans to keep the breezes flowing. The living room offers comfortable seating High-Def DVD player, I-Pod Dock, and books & games for your use. The kitchen is full equipped to cook breakfast, lunch, or up to a full course meal.
Coco Solo is located in a quiet and very safe residential area also very close to the fishing pier. The yard also features tropical vegetation which makes you feel very at home in the Caribbean sunshine.
Along with the above mentioned amenities, the house also has a washer and dryer available so you can pack light for the island. The rental also provides all the accessories you need to enjoy your time relaxing at the beach, including beach towels, beach mats, beach chairs, and a choice of coolers.
Perfect for a couple, a small group, or a family of up to 6, Coco Solo welcomes you to Vieques to enjoy our sun-kissed island for you vacation.
Having stayed in several houses in Esperanza in the past, we were pleasantly surprised at how convenient this location was: an easy walk to Sun Bay and the Malecon, almost right around the corner from the newly opened El Blok, and just a few steps from the recently renovated park. My 86 year old Mom was able to walk with us up to the park, where my sister--a personal trainer--led her in a gentle work-out on the outdoor exercise equipment while we exercised alongside her, and she still managed the walk back to the house under her own steam! When we came out on the carport one evening to listen to Christmas carolers singing in Spanish to neighbors across the street, they saw us and came to our gate to sing to us as well! We got delicious roast pork shoulder (pernil) from Choli at his local food stand around the corner, and everyone in the neighborhood was wonderfully friendly and kind. The house is roomy with cheerful decor--a great beach getaway!
This house is called "coco solo" because there is one coconut tree on the property.
There are two hammocks on the front porch and you have a grill and a car. You can either go out every night to the great restaurants in the area or you can emerge yourself into the Viequense community simply by making friends with the neighbours. If you do that you'll be able to buy freshly caught fish from the fishmongers and find out which beach is looking the best that day.
I drove each to a bakery in Isabella because I enjoy experiencing how locals live. There you can find pastries and cafe dulce. I think is was panaderia Viequense. The neighbourhood is truly special and the boardwalk is less than 5 minutes from your front door.
If you are looking for luxury this may not be the place for you, however for a unique, fulfilling and adventurous travel experience at an extremely affordable price this is the spot!
I have travelled personally to Italy, Brasil, Dominican Republic, Turkey, Budapest, Mexico, main Island of Puerto Rico and Curaçao and I must say the beaches here are right up there if not the best I've visited.
Disfrutta la isola de Vieques!!!
I highly recommend a trip to Vieques, and Coco Solo is a nice "home base" to explore the island from.
Dale is very helpful and easy to work with. His on site manager, Michelle, was great also. The house is in a great location, just a short walk to the bars and restaurants of Esperanza. There is also a nice beach and water activities within walking distance, although most times you will want to drive to the really great beaches Vieques offers.
The house has everything you will need. If you are looking for luxury, it might not be the place for you, but it is very comfortable. As other reviewers have mentioned, there is a bit of noise in the neighborhood, but I rarely noticed it.
In summary, I had a great time at Coco Solo, and I would return next week if I didn't have to work!
First, the location is great, just a few minutes to the main strip with restaurants and bars. It was nice to be in a neighborhood and feel a part of the community. The house was very nice, and other than an invasion of ants, was clean and comfortably appointed, nothing fancy.
We were welcomed by Michele, who was wonderful! She was full of great information, marked a map with everything we should see...we enjoyed meeting and talking with her.
However...the A/C in the master bedroom wasn't working and one would have thought this would have been noticed before guests were arriving..we had to point it out. By the looks of the unit it's need replacing for a few years, but they waited until it was completely dead. Although someone came to look at it the day we arrived, no one returned to replace it until we were packing to leave. I guess the local excuse is "island time"...but when it comes to the comfort of paying guests you would think there would have been greater urgency in fixing the problem...especially when you consider trying to sleep in Caribbean island heat with no A/C.
Also, the house doesn't have wireless internet connection. There is a modem...and if you happen to still travel with a laptop you can plug in...but who still does that? Most guests have pads or smart phones...and so you're out of luck. It seems a minor investment for guests convenience.
Restaurants: don't miss El Quenepo if you want a fine dining ,white cloth experience...great food, great service and wonderful owner/hostess. We also loved Coqui Fire Mexican restaurant with a very inventive menu and great food...the night we were there they served a cheesecake made with one of their house made hot sauces...amazing!! Also try the Tin Box...beautiful, up in the trees and all greens are from their garden.
We love our few days on Vieques Island and heartedly recommend it. I'd also recommend Coco Solo...just make sure the A/C is fixed and I hope they decide to get a wireless router...they're pretty cheap these days.
Our family had such a wonderful time during our 2 week stay here. Dale was so easy to deal with and accommodated us in any way he could. Michelle was so helpful and, upon our arrival, sat us down with the map showing all the great spots to snorkel, eat, etc. The house was everything we needed, privacy for each of our young adult children as well as a large kitchen/living area for all of us to gather together. Tito's, next door, is entertaining to say the least and Alexandro, next door the other direction, was so friendly, stopping frequently to see how our stay was going. He took us kayaking in the Bioluminescent Bay which was wonderful. Easy walk to the beach which we did every day, most days with no shoes on. A car is helpful to allow for seeking out all the other sights to be seen on the island. The kitchen was well stocked. The only drawback were the mosquitoes which kept us inside when we were home. Also there is neighborhood noise, but that is easily remedied by the bedroom AC. Would come back again. My son keeps this site on his phone to look at pictures to remind himself of our great time there. Thanks so much Dale and Michelle. A once in a lifetime vacation for us.
We loved the house, it was great for our family, 4 adults and 2 small children the fenced in yard was a plus. The rooms are actually larger than they look in the photos. We were close to the beaches, stores and everything we needed. A wonderful , comfortable house, The children especially loved seeing the horses stroll down the street each night. We are hoping to return next year for a longer stay.
