Nestled into the island, surrounded by flowering plants and bushes, this charming vacation home has a full screened-in porch just right for reading, lunch or evening cocktails. Hearing the waves on the beach and watching the diminishing evening sunlight, you can fire up the porch grill or bike to one of the restautants... Taste and Sea or Staniel Cay Yacht Club. Some weekends there is a cook-out on the Public Beach to raise money for the school or library. From your comfortable bedroom you view the back garden beyond the deck. The stone walk leads to the sandy beach where the blue-green water beckons. There's a small reef for some snorkeling and a Cassurina tree for shade. For sunbathing or night sky watching, climb the stairs by the outside shower where you get a panoramic island view.
There is plane service from both Ft Lauderdale and Nassau. Staniel Cay lures many vacationers looking for a quiet getaway. Some come in their own plane landing on the 3,000 ft runway that has a large parking ramp. For the adventurous there is a somewhat weekly freight boat out of Nassau. We will be glad to help with recommendations.
The property was the perfect fit for our vacation goal. No tourism, privacy, somewhere unspoiled with amazing tropic view/feel. House sit's on 2.5 acres with complete privacy! We never heard or saw one person but yet we could ride the bikes provided two blocks to the marina. Walk outside the house onto our own private beach. Sit the Adirondack chairs provided with a fresh brew of coffee for sunset or morning rise. The owner was more keen to making us feel comfortable with such a departure from conventional vacations and information provided than a travel agency! I feel I gained a friend in the owner. At 50, this was the best vacation ever! I would strongly recommend renting a 17ft boat with 85hp to explore the greatness of the local surrounding islands.
Staniel Cay offers swimming, fishing, snorkeling, scuba divng and New Years Sailing Regatta. It is centrally located in the Exuma chain of 'Family' islands, Some of the surrounding cays have sandy beaches for picnicing, beachcombing. Amidst the cays are anchorages where cruising boaters anchor. The picturesque vistas of white limestone against blue sky and magically-colored sea will make you glad you brought your camera.
Thunderball (named for James Bond's 'Thunderball' being filmed in the grotto) is a popular diving spot tucked away in one of the many limestone cays that surround Staniel. On-the-water adventures can be arranged through Staniel Cay Divers. Nikki at 3 N's can arrange diving and fishing trips as well as other Concierge services like boat rental, or golf cart rental.
Take a bike ride into the village less than a mile away from Horizon Found. There, you will find the village church, Taste and Sea restaurant, the Staniel Cay Yacht Club with restaurant and marina. At the Public Beach there is often a cook-out to benefit the local school or church, check the Bulletin Board. Groceries are at the Isles General Store, Blue Store, Pink Store and Emil's Bakery. Additional dining can be found on outlying cays.
Further north is the Exuma Land and Sea Park, a government preserve both above and below the sea. Accessible only by sea, the Headquarters can guide you to the trails, diving sites.
South of Staniel are other friendly destinations: Quana Cay, a preserve for iquanas, Black Point, Little Farmer's Cay.
