In 2/2014, we stayed here for 8 nights while attending a convention at the Javits & visiting NYC. Highly recommended. Apartment is small, but comfortable & old, but updated w/modern touches- a juxtaposition of old & new; nice ambiance.
Location is AWESOME. 2 long blocks to Penn Station & E subway line (& A & C), an easy trip from JFK & easy to get all over Manhattan. We walked to Chelsea using the Highline & in the other direction, walked home at night from Times Square. Great view up 34th street to the Empire State Building. 1 big block to the Javits.
Refrigerator is handy. Kitchen is rough around the edges, but stocked with the equipment you might need, & extras like spices, tea, etc. New York water tastes great!
Showerhead was high; my husband LOVED taking a shower without ducking. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash & a hair dryer in stock and PLENTY of thick towels.
I like the wi-fi & the TV is on an antenna so no guide or idea what channels are what if you’re from out of the area.
Bring slippers. The floors are hardwood or something like that & I’m funny about floors, I don’t like my feet getting dirty so I lived in socks.
It was freezing in Feb & the building has a funny heater that you can’t really turn off. In the bedroom you can turn the handle a hundred times until it is “off”, but it still heats & the living room stays on. Kitchen & bath have heating pipes through the floor & ceiling, so stays warm in there. We’re always hot & it was warm for us; when we got in at night, we’d crack the window to make it comfortable. The bed was comfy. Mattress pad sort of moves but otherwise, liked bed & bedding & slept well. It can be loud on the street. Even with the window open, I slept through the noise. Probably from sightseeing exhaustion, but it didn’t bother me & I’m a light sleeper!
Overall easy transaction. Appreciate Kevin’s requiring minimal deposit to hold the reservation –scary when someone you don’t know wants a big deposit. Kevin met us at the apartment at the appointed time, explained how everything worked & was friendly. We had no problems & no reason to contact him again. The location is clean & neat & the building has a 24 hour doorman. I never felt unsafe.
Recommend Sergimmo Salumeria for excellent meats, cheeses, & olives as well as huge & tasty portions of pasta, around the corner on 9th. Also, a couple blocks away, Best Bagel & coffee has great New York bagels. Highline Park is about 2 or 3 blocks.
This apartment is absolutely perfect for 4 person. We were 4 person and it was more than perfect. The apartment is as shown on the site , very clean, nice and big enough for NYC apartments :) . What I most liked at this apartment was the great idea to have 2 doors at the bathroom , one from the living room and one from the bedroom . As we were 4 person (one couple and 2 girls ) it was perfect for the single boy in our group to go to the bathroom. We really had privacy. The apartment is very well located , on 34th street with 9 avenue, 10 minutes away by walk from Empire State Building , Times Square , Macy`s, Rockefeller Center, 5th avenue and other important and major attractions from NY. The area is very safe and very nice because the apartment is very well located , central in downtown , which is very important . About the owner, Kevin, he is very kind , friendly and welcoming. He helped us on anything we asked. We called him , text@e-mail him, and he was more than friendly to help us and we did not feel, even for a second that we bothered him. He is there for his customers:)! I will definitely return to NY because it is a fabulous city and I will definitely stay at this lovely apartment . Thank for everything Kevin. We really had a great holiday!

Owner's Response: Hellllooooo Christina, thank you for the kind review of your stay. I enjoyed meeting and speaking with you all at check-in. I'm glad you enjoyed yourselves and I hope you accomplished your shopping mission (LOL). If you ever decide to vacation in New York again, please don't hesitate to shoot me an email. Thanks again from the Big Apple.
Took my daughter to NYC for her 21st birthday. After reading reviews/looking at lots of apt & condo's-we chose Kevin's apartment because we wanted to "experience" New York like a New Yorker & not stay in a hotel -- we were not disappointed! The apartment was clean & looks just like the photos; the walls & floors are solid-we never heard any noise from neighbors. Kevin was very prompt in all communications-we texted him upon our arrival at LGA and he met us to hand over the keys & explain the apt & made suggestions for taking the subway/buses/taxis. We used the little store on 34th to get water & snacks. We used the subway, 5 minute walk to 34th & 7th, to go everywhere-were never worried about our safety-just use your best judgement as to where you go at night. We used a taxi to/from the airport-paid about $40-42 with a tip. If you are doing a lot of sightseeing,I highly recommend the 7-day Unlimited Metro Card for $30/each person - or you can get a single card one to share & re-load as needed, but for the 5 days we were there, the unlimited is the best bargain - but you can't share it as there is a 15 minute time delay to re-swipe. As stated in other reviews, the building is dated, but the doormen & resident's we met were all very friendly & helpful. The location is convenient for Chelsea, midtown, Times Square, the High Line. The kitchen is small but functional; the living room & bedroom were larger than what you would expect for a 1-BR in Manhattan. Bed was very comfortable - you'll need to use the curtains unless you like waking up early because the sun comes in both the BR and LR windows. There is street noise but being 8 floors up - it didn't bother us. A/C worked great - it was very hot while we were there. Water pressure for shower was great & heated quickly! Quick elevators! Leave your drier at home as there is one to use; also, good supply of shampoo/bath wash unless you have to have your brand. We would definitely stay there again -- we felt it was an excellent value. We ate at a lot of different places-not one bad meal & all reasonably priced for the portion's rec'd (we shared a lot): Isabella's,Amici II in Little Italy,The View,Katz Deli,Carnegie Deli,Caliente Cab Co,Bubby's in TriBeCa, Shake Shack in Madison Sq Park,Sardi's,Serendipity (for dessert!!). This was my 3rd visit but I felt like she needed to go on a tour-we used OnBoard Tours "See It All"-Small vans with A/C & knowledgeable tour guide. The Lion King was A+! Wear comfy shoes!!

Owner's Response: Hello Lisa, thank you for your great review!! I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay and it seems you've covered quite a lot of ground in the city. I hope Caroline had a fantastic birthday and If you plan on making your way back to New York, please let me know. Be well and take care until we meet again.
The apartment is large only the kitchen is small but functional. The sofa bed is huge and very comfortable. It has all the facilities you can imagine. The location is very good and it was essential to our mobility. I walked all over Manhattan by subway wh

Owner's Response: Hello Aline, I'm very happy to hear you enjoyed your first visit to New York. As soon as I met you at check-in, I had a feeling you would really have a great time in the "Big Apple". If you decide to come back to study a language in the future, I would love to have you once again as a guest. Also, I hope you are enjoying the excitement of the World Cup in Brazil. The energy is pretty high here in Midtown. Take care and be well...
We were in the apartment the past few days. Extremely clean as previously reported (VERY important). Plenty big for the three of us with a good size sitting area (tiny kitchen but functional). The doorman is nice to have and the other people living in the building were friendly and helpful. Grocery stores on the same block as reported (on was kind of like a Kwik Trip for those for the midwest). The Amtrak was nearby which helped us out. It is walking distance to Times Square or cab is cheap. Always felt very safe. The only thing you need to be aware of is the street noise as you are in the city and facing the street. If you are a light sleeper bring ear plugs and you should be fine as the building itself is quiet.. I would use it again. A very good value in my opnion.
