Enjoy the peace and quiet this country setting offers yet you are only a 15-minute drive from all the activities of Downtown Staunton, VA. and 25 minutes to Harrisonburg.
In this cottage, are two large bedrooms one with a queen-size bed, one with a full size antique bed. The third bedroom has a full size bed.
On the first floor, there is a comfortable living room with a Jötel gas stove, with game table, TV/VCR/DVD. The front door enters from a large private deck. The separate dining room with table that seats 6 - 8 . There is also a comfortable loveseat in this room for relaxing away from the TV area. An antique high chair is available for toddlers.
A separate Keeping Room with bay window and view of the pool provides another “living area”.
The kitchen is fully equipped including dishwasher, microwave and gas stove with a variety of small appliances and lots of dishware and serving pieces. The casual cook or gourmet chef will find all they need in this kitchen.
The Washer and Dryer are located on the first floor as well as the second bath with shower.
There is a table that seats 4 on the deck for dining out, and a nearby fire pit with lots of seating for enjoying cool starlit nights.
A large adjoining landscaped yard invites morning walks, or a relaxing rest in the hammock or grape arbor swing in the afternoons. The gazebo is a great garden spot for a cup of coffee or tea, or perhaps a glass of wine.
In addition to the amenities of the cottage and surrounding gardens, there is a large in ground salt water pool generally open May – September.
Take one of the many day trips to nearby Monticello, Luray Caverns, Natural Bridge, or the quaint shops in Staunton, Lexington or Charlottesville. Spend an evening at the Black Friars Shakespeare Theatre or take in the Waynesboro Symphony. The Forbes Fine Arts Center on the nearby JMU campus offers a variety of entertainment venues.
Convenient to Mary Baldwin College, Bridgewater College, James Madison University, and Eastern Mennonite University.
Two hours by car to Washington, DC and Richmond; 1.5 hours to Roanoke.
The outdoor enthusiast will enjoy the local rivers and streams for fishing and the national forest for hiking and hunting.
Fall foliage and the flowering forests of spring are seasonal highlights for hikers. Bird watchers will enjoy a wide variety of birds on the farm, including pileated woodpeckers, red tailed hawks, a variety of owls and brilliant songbirds, and a resident heron on the creek.
Shoppers will find local malls and many small eclectic and unique shops in both Harrisonburg and Staunton and in small communities between. There is an abundance of local crafters and potters who sell their wares in the shops and farmers markets.
Golfers will find several private and municipal golf courses nearby, including Ingelside in Staunton and Lake View in Harrisonburg. There is a newer municipal course in the city of Harrisonburg not far from JMU, and a smaller course along the river in Bridgewater. There are country clubs in both Staunton and Harrisonburg as well.
Skiing is a 45 minutes drive to either Massanutten Resort of Wintergreen Resort, with Bryce and the Homestead a bit further out. All are within an easy drive for a day on the slopes.
A variety of excellent restaurants with a choice of local or ethnic cuisine are available for those who wish to eat out. Farmer's Markets are available for those who wish to buy fresh groceries and eat in.
The Valley has always been a great place for antiquers to find treasures. You'll want to allow several hours at the Factory Antique Mall, one of the largest and best quality antique malls in the state. It's just about 8 miles from here.
For book lovers, the Green Vally Book Fair is open multiple times throughout the year for a two-week period each time. Current schedules are available in the Cottage local attraction information. Even with the current popularity of electronic books, the Book Fair is a phenomenal place for readers, and to buy gifts for other readers!
Virginia has been named one of only two destinations in the United States for wine enthusiasts and vintners, and the only one on the East Coast. Many of those award winning vineyards are within a 45 minute drive from the Cottage with wine-tastings available daily. A small award winning family business, the nearest vineyard is just 12 miles away with tours and tastings, and Friday night special entertainment events.
