This architect-designed home has large rooms, high ceilings, and all the amenities of home. It is furnished with some of our cherished and unique items, and is as comfortable as it is peaceful. The quiet neighborhood is great for bird-watching, walking or biking, star gazing, and enjoying a variety of flora and fauna.
The upstairs bedroom, with a king bed, has it's own bathroom (shower only) and a reading nook. The two downstairs bedrooms share a bathroom with tub and shower. There is a small TV/VCR in the bedroom with the queen bed, and a door leading outside to the gorgeous back yard.
Located just off the national park, near the Volcano Golf Course and the Volcano Winery, it is less than 5 minutes away from the park entrance and visitor center, so it is a convenient 'home away from home' from which to explore the Volcano National Park, Hilo, Akaka Falls, and much more.
At Kilauea Military Camp, located in the national park, anyone may use their bowling alley and gym, attend events in the theatre, or go to the restaurant and lounge.
With a half-dozen restaurants in the area, our guests have the option of eating different cuisines. Our kitchen is equipped with gas range, crock pot, convection/toaster oven, electric grill/griddle, coffee grinder, blender, electric water kettle, and other amenities, if you choose to cook for yourselves. We provide coffee, an assortment of teas, hot cocoa, condiments, and paper goods.

Keywords: This is a custom-built house, beautifully furnished, located on the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, surrounded by tall native koa and ohi'a trees.
Amy (originally from Honolulu), and Joe (from Arizona), are both self-employed in Kona, and have lived on the Big Island for many years. In 2003, we purchased this house for our retirement in a few more years. In the meantime, we enjoy our occasional visits to the house, hosting family and friends, and the constant improvements we make to our future home.
The Owner purchased this house in 2003
Amy's family vacationed regularly in Volcano, not far from this house, so from childhood I have had a love and appreciation of the area, the climate and the park. This part of Volcano is considered the 'dry side', so there are many more days each year when one can enjoy being outside.
We love the 'quiet' of the house, waking only to the sound of birds--no traffic, no noisy neighbors. Our back yard adjoins a ranch, giving the feel of tremendous space to our property. The community of Volcano is very friendly, and reminds us of how life was when we were growing up in the 1950's--people knew their neighbors, and participated in local events. Check out the Sunday market at the Cooper Center on Wright road, but go early!! You'll find produce, flowers, prepared foods, baked goods, arts & crafts, and conviviality.
Hospitality with grace and generosity, beautiful surroundings, and delicious breakfasts to get us started--we could not have asked for anything more at the Hale Koa Nani. Aloha and Mahalo.
What a lovely and charming home! My family and I spent two days at Hale Koa Nani. This house is beautiful, spacious and nicely decorated. It has all the comforts of home. It was wonderful having wireless internet, cable TV, and full kitchen amenities. Outside of the house was as amazing as the inside. The secluded backyard garden is a little Hawaiian paradise. The chirping of the birds, the trees and flowers...it definitely
stimulates all your senses. The owners were available to answer questions and were kind enough to give suggestions on places to visit on the Island. The only problem...we couldn't stay longer. Thanks Amy and Joe for renting your home to us!
My wife and I found this property to be the best value of our entire trip to Hawaii. We spent our last 5 days on the big island here and were very impressed. Peaceful, quiet very well appointed, beautiful furnishings, we did not want for anything. When we arrived at Hilo, we picked up what we thought were a few necessary items, coffee, condiments and a few things to eat, well, we were impressed to find the kitchen, laundry and bathrooms to be very well stocked with everything you could imagine, really! If you plan on cooking, just get food, every imaginable spice, condiment, pots and pans, flatware, kitchen gadget etc. were there. The location is great for running all over the island during the day and hanging out at the volcano at night or just for relaxing all day if you want. The property owner stayed in contact with us before, during and after our stay answering all our questions and giving helpful advice. We would very much recommend staying here.
We ...a party of 5...stayed here for 2 nights....great location for visiting Volcano National park. Short drive to Volcano Village for meals, etc. The house itself was perfect for us. It was as advertised. Strongly recommend staying there.
If you want the best of everything, a five star resort feel in a wonderful home setting you must stay at the Hale Koa Nani. We stayed for a week over the Christmas holiday and we wanted for nothing. This home was the best appointed home we have ever stayed at. There were fresh flowers for our arrival. The house has a fully appointed kitchen with all high-end appliances and beautiful antiques though out. This is a home, not just a house set up for guests. You really feel comfortable in the spacious living room with its wood-burning fireplace. And it was amazing to be able to lay in bed at night in the master bedroom, and look up to see the stars.
The view into the yard with the little red door in the tree for the Menehune (Hawaiian fairies) is very beautiful and relaxing. You wake up in the morning to the sound of the birds singing in the yard and the occasional pheasant walking by.
The house was beautifully decorated for Christmas and we felt right at home having our family come up from Hilo to have dinner with us. It was a treat to be able to drive the 5 minutes to the Volcano Park after dinner to see the nightglow and all the stars. We went several nights because it was so beautiful.
We went to dinner at the Kailua Lodge with a group of 10 and it was great. We were comfortably seated and the noise level was low enough that we were able to hold conversations without shouting. The food is excellent here. We also went to the Rim at Volcano house. A bit nosier, but you have a beautiful view of the volcano during your meal. And their food was also excellent.
The house is very conveniently located near a golf course that my husband made good use of several times. It’s an easy drive down to Hilo to visit family and see the coast. We had great communication with the owners. Amy was so helpful and made sure we had everything we needed. She takes the extra effort to make sure you have all you need to make your stay easy and amazing. We will defiantly be back.
I really wanted to keep this house a secret. But it is such a great place to stay, that I just have to share.
Wonderful stay. House is beautifully decorated, linen is first class, kitchen is well equipped, not only with equipment and appliances but with seasonings and sauces. DVD collection is outstanding. On top of all this, location is perfect, very close to the National Park and Volcano village but with a rural air about it. Garden is lovely - as are the birds that frequent it. We loved it and would stay again if we ever get the opportunity.
Hale Koa Nani was perfect for our vacation at Volcano National Park from start to finish. The home is beautifully furnished as shown in the listing's photos. Everything is very clean and well maintained. The owner was extremely helpful, both answering questions before our stay and mailing back a lost earring afterward. We were even welcomed with a can of macadamia nots and macadamia coffee cake in the kitchen...a nice surprise. The location is perfect for visiting Volcano National Park. We enjoyed the Thai Thai restaurant. We will recommend this rental property to any friend traveling to Volcano National Park.
