Photos and Description of the Ariege vacation farmhouse rental 5- Bedroom property, pool, covered courtyard, edge of village, near Mirepoix.

This is our 12th year offering gite accommodation, We sleep up to 10 people in 5 double bedrooms. Pool 10x5 sams. We are sited on 30 acres, including 20 acres of woods, with a covered courtyard, gardens and orchard, on the edge of Manses (pop 68), the Pyrenees as a permanent backdrop. Linen provided and all mod cons. Free childsitting by prior arrangement. The main house is dated from Napoleonic times C1797, and formed the dependencies of the Comte de Manses till the 1920's. His Chateau has gone but leaves a very pretty view across the valley. Across the courtyard is a separate lounge area with wood fire, music and television including DVD and Videotape facilities. The courtyard is covered at the back end providing an excellent retreat from the hot sun and a great place to eat al fresco . Holidaymakers eat about 80% of their meals outdoors with us as a result. Yvonne and Dan live in an apartment off the courtyard. Our job is to clean the pool, make repairs and give useful advice.

Nearest Ferry: Santander at 300 Kilometres
Nearest Train: Pamiers at 18 Kilometres
Nearest Motorway: Pamiers at 16 Kilometres
Nearest Beach: beach at 70.0 Kilometres

We are 20 minutes from magnificent rivers ,gorges and mountains at 7000ft., an hour from the Mediterranean beaches, 2 hours from Spain. The area has now become famous for its Cathar history, thanks to such as the Da Vinci Code.The Holy Grail is believed to be at nearby Rennes Les Chateau(our Glastonbury). Cathar Castles abound. The area is excellent for sports and leisure with watersports and walking/trekking a speciality. The Tour de France comes through in July, and the area is a rugby hotbed.The local cuisine is famous for Cassoulet, seafood, and wild boar. The wine areas of Pays D'oc, Corbieres, Fitou and Minervois are nearby and wine tasting available. We are 7 minutes from the beautiful medieval town of Mirepoix, the nearest shopping. It has several excellent restaurants and bars, a beautiful Cathedral and a famous Monday market. Toulouse is a wonderful,lively city only an hour away. 40 minutes away Carcassonne is a perfectly preserved medieval castle and a 'must see'

Additional information about rental rates

  • Our rates are based on 5 people. There is a supplementary scale after this. We take adults first for calculation.
    Rest of Year(Low season.) We charge £100 per person per week for the first 3 people. After this mid season prices apply.

    Over 5 people there is a £50 supplement in low and mid season for adults and £10 for each child. In High Season the supplements are £75 per adult and £15 per child. A child is a non-working person under 19 years old.
    Example. 2 families totalling 4 adults and 5 children in high season for one week
    FIrst 5 people £790 + supplement of 4 children @£15 = £850 total
    In mid season = £350 + £40 = £390 total
    A deposit of 80 euros will taken on arrival to cover damages. This will be returned a week after the completion of the holiday, minus any identified costs, as laid out in our Terms and Conditions.

  • There are 2 bedrooms on the first floor and 3 bedrooms on the second. All bedrooms are convertible from double beds to 2 singles, or more. One of the bedrooms is like a bedsitter and can take 4 single beds comfortably. One of the bedrooms on the top floor is ensuite. A different bedroom on the top floor has great views of the village and the Pyrenees. We have cots and high chairs for babies and small children. We have often had two families who are friends sharing. This is the most common booking during July and August. However all bookings are for exclusive use only.

Notes: The pool is set behind the house and surrounded by either walls or laurel hedge, complying with all new safety requirements. There is a pool alarm. and lockable gates. There are pool loungers, swing seat and covered areas at the poolside. There are steps at one end of the pool for walking into the pool. We have two very friendly older dogs who have been extremely popular with holiday makers, especially children. There are three cats at present but kittens may emerge. There are two mountain horses on the hillside, who enjoy being fed stale bread by the holidaymakers.

An ideallic peaceful week in the sun

What a setting, I call this the real France, in a small hamlet in the rural countryside sits this tradition property run by superb hosts Dan and Yvonne. They let us into their way of life as if we were close family.
I spend a great week with my son and his partner and my grand daughter enjoying the quietness of this wonderful location. My granddaughter who is 2 years old loved the pool splashing about and learning to swim.
The accommodation is spacious and well maintained, the bathroom with shower have been tastefully modernised. Most evenings we spend in the courtyard eating and socialising, enjoying homegrown food complimented by wine from a nearby cellar that Dan had recommended,
The medival town of Mirepiox provides the opportunity to shop locally for all those essentials.
A peacful retreat or a base to explore town like Caracassone, Fiox, Toulouse etc. it is great place at the end of the day to unwind.
