6 BEDROOM 4 BATH HOUSE ON THE KENAI RIVER IN SOLDOTNA

We took a "guys" fishing trip and contacted Alaskan Widespread Fishing Adventures (Google it because VRBO won't let me post the link) which is owned by 2 great fishing guides that we had fished with a couple of years ago. Mindy & Reubin are incredible people, very customer oriented and went out of their way to make our entire trip a success...not to mention they are the best fishing guides on the Kenai. Although we only planned to fish with them 2 days, they made reservations for us with other outstanding fishing guides for the other days - 1 fly-in (fantastic) and 2 combo trips. The house was perfect for us; we used the grills every night to cook fish that we had caught, the kitchen was outfitted nicely, the rest of the house was very comfortable & welcoming and the deck / fire-pit / dock provided a great place to unwind at the end of each day. The location is 2 minutes from downtown Soldotna, very convenient to stores & fish processing. Last minute we decided that we wanted to fish for a 1/2 day on the morning of our departure day....no problem, they juggled schedules and took us out!! No doubt that this is the best-of-the-best....lodging, fishing guides and hospitality.

We spent a fantastic week at the lodge with our close friends and their kids! The fenced yard allowed the little children to have a safe play area and the hot tub and huge dock with fire pit, grill and fishing allowed the big kids fantastic fishing or just a quiet place to sit and listen to the river flow by! We even cooked and ate the fish right on the dock!!! The lodge was beautiful and super clean. We walked into Soldotna ( 1/4 mile) for our shopping and entertainment! The price for this 6 bedroom lodge was less than we paid in Anchorage for 2 hotel rooms!!! Thanks again for the great memories! Jan and Steve

My extended family and I were able to relax for 10 days at this beautiful lodge. Our numbers varied, but there was no problem accommodating 15 people easily. Everyone had a comfortable bed to sleep in and plenty of space to get away to. The view of the Kenai River was awesome. Evenings were spent in the hot tub on the deck or on the huge dock on the river where we were able to have a nice fire and roast marshmallows or cast our lines in the river in hopes of a bite! The lodge was nicely decorated and immaculately clean. The owners, Reubin and Mindy Payne made sure that our every need was met and every question answered. We also had the pleasure of fishing with the Payne’s. They are great guides! Several people in our party were able to catch king salmon and trout. The Payne’s also pointed us in the right direction for clamming and some members of our party were able to catch over 3 dozen clams in just a couple hours. The kitchen had everything we needed to feed a large group and the multiple grills allowed us to grill dinner for over 30 people one night.
The location of the lodge is perfect. It is just a short walk to the downtown area of Soldotna where you can find grocery stores, coffee shops, restaurants, fish processors, and even a local brewery. It seems like there is a local festival or event each weekend and we delighted in being able to participate with “the locals”. Even if you are not interested in fishing, you can find something fun to do to occupy your time. When we were not fishing, we took advantage of the beautiful nearby state park for hiking and travelled to Homer and Seward to sight see.
This lodge was a wonderful place for my family to gather together for the 10 days we were there. The Payne’s couldn’t have been better hosts and made sure our every need was met. Fishing with them was an added bonus. As someone else posted, their motto “Come as a client, leave as a friend” couldn’t be more accurate. I am certain that we will be back!
