Best Location on this River!
The Santa Ana River upper headwaters of the river in the San Bernardino Mountains still retain a free flowing character and outstanding natural values. The upper headwaters, including its sparkling waters, scenic verdant meadows, rich riparian habitat, and thick forests of pine, fir, and oak offer an outdoor recreation mecca for hikers, bicyclists and fishermen. Perfect place to reconnect with family and friends in a green and pristine mountain wilderness. Come and surround yourself with the natural beauty and privacy of a wooded landscape.
Give yourself time for writing and hiking, painting and reading and stargazing in this peaceful sanctuary. Sit back and take delight in the breath-taking view from the deck as the sun sets and listen to the soothing sounds of nature. Birdwatchers often spot owls, herons, ducks, woodpeckers, hawks and quail.

Originally from the lake country of northern Minnesota. Robert hand-scribed this fabulous home and all the amazing details. Robert likes to tinker and invent. Anna enjoys landscaping this five acre canvas. Their hospitality experience included owning a bed and breakfast in New Zealand. The log house shares this five acre property with the owner’s cabin - 300' away from the house. We respect your privacy, but if you need anything we can assist immediately. We are very interested in making sure your stay is comfortable.
R.J. Hendrickson purchased this house in 1997
We handcrafted this unique log home ourselves, with much attention to detail. Located in a beautiful green wilderness, the Santa Ana River is unique for So. California - green and pristine. Love the apple blossoms and yucca in the Spring. Bird watching includes herons, owls, quail and hawks. Stars are a lot brighter out here. We encourage our guests to learn about our region's rich history, encouraging stewardship of this rich and unique riparian environment.
Private gate, 1/2 mile to the cabin. Only ten neighbors, all homes are on 5 acres surrounded by 30+ miles of beautiful national forest. This is not crowded like Big Bear. Fabulous views.
RJ…just want to add my 2 cents worth.
We really enjoyed the 2 night stay at your Log cabin. What an accomplishment. My daughter and her husband flew out from Dallas just for my Mom’s 90th birthday celebration, so you know this was a big deal for me and Tammy to have our mom honored like this. Your place was perfect. And added to that was the warm feeling you gave us to be around you. We have been emailing each other back and forth saying how we hope we can all get together again and do a repeat.
What a beautiful home! The owners built it themselves and we could see the loving skill they put into it. This site is quiet and rejuvenating! This was my birthday weekend and we took much of our family along to spend some time together. It was the perfect spot!
The Cabin was perfect for our retreat! It was beautifully decorated and had such a warm and inviting atmosphere. It is the perfect get away from the city. We enjoyed the local outdoors and quiet serenity. The owners were so helpful and accommodating! We would LOVE to stay here again! THANK YOU for making our trip great! : )
We have stayed in this log home multiple times and love it. The property is stunningly beautiful, the home is a hand-built jewel, excellently equipped and very comfortable and the owners, Anna and RJ, are gracious, helpful hosts. Each time we have stayed (10 to 12 times) we have cleaned the home and promptly received a full refund of our deposit. We will keep returning, every season if we can!!
From the moment that I got out out of my car til the moment I stepped into this magical place, I knew i was heaven. Seven bedrooms - each with its own theme, each bed with fresh linens, immaculately clean bathrooms, full kitchen, separate dining room, every nook and corner, from ceiling to floor, i could see how the owners put in all their loving finishing touches. They have a washer and dryer, beautifully landscaped yards, tons of apples (in season) , same goes for blackberries and rasberries, three decks- one next to a flowing river, places to hike, to bikeride, etc.
if you want a place to go to , to help melt away the stresses of everyday life, to escape to a peaceful quiet place so that you could actually hear yourself think, then this is your special place. Thank you Rasa snd RJ, i had a wonderful time and hope to come back very very soon.Aciu Labai!!
The log home is incredible. All of the hard work put into building it clearly shows. As my daughter put it - it is a "masterpiece". The log home sits in the most beautiful setting, surrounded by grass, flowers, open space, mountain views, an orchard, and is just steps away from the breathtaking Santa Ana River. The 25-foot tree swing was a huge hit with the kids - as was slide rock and fishing on the river. It was so nice to meet the owner, Anna. She was so gracious. I would highly recommend staying here to anyone - we will surely be back!
We were a group of 9. But another family of 2 joined us for the last day of our stay. This place is a piece of heaven. It is very big and clean, we always had extra room. One big loft that is good for two and is a treat for teens. Down stairs had three bedrooms and main level has a very cute master bedroom with its own bath room, and another bedroom that has half bath in it. We were 5 adults in our group, 3 engineers including myself and 2 doctors, very picky when it comes to health. This place was the cleanest so far in our list. We were so happy that we could walk barefoot in the cabin as we do at our home. Owners are the kindest and their dogs were our angeles. Kids loved them and miss them dearly. God bless itchy, silver( my favorite) and hug, and their owner. You should see the effort that RJ and Ana put in this so beautiful museum like cabin. The apple garden, beautiful trees and flowers, breath taking view of mountain, sound of river that is just a few steps down the road, playing on a swing rope , these were just less than 2 hours from Los angeles and orange county, where we were coming from. Just to let every one know, even though the owners live close by, but it is the most private place i had ever seen. You could reach them whenever you want to but the log is like a hidden gem, out of reach of any one but you. I can write a book about our vacation. This was my best vacation ever.
