Overview

Angelus Oaks House Rental Photos and Description

6 BRs 2.5 BAs. Optional 7th BR & 1BA (2 queens, 800sf add $100) sleeps 10-17

(2014 Highest Rating and Best Value for a Quality 6-7 Bedroom Home in Big Bear!)

A River Paradise - Right on the pristine Santa Ana River headwaters. Five acres with a beautiful year-round river. A relaxing private mountain sanctuary intended for guests that are looking for a unique retreat in the San Bernardino Mountains (rural Seven Oaks). A place for rest, rejuvenation and discovery. About 2 hours from Orange County or Los Angeles, yet worlds away. Though your surroundings are authentically rustic, there's no need to rough it: you'll find everything you need in the main house. A wonderful combination of furnishings, location, views and amenities.

Perched on a sunny mountainside, a pristine sanctuary to renew the spirit and refresh the senses. Wander and explore the lovely orchard and you’ll feel the splendor of simpler times. Meditate in the fresh mountain air and the beautiful ambiance of the river landscape. Relax in a comfortable handcrafted log home in the woods. You’ll find a wide selection of music, dozens of inviting books and a cozy, peaceful place just for you.

Handcrafted in 2007 this custom log home is comfortably appointed with antiques and modern amenities. The cabin is kept very clean. Upon entering the cabin, before you is the great room, which is surrounded by windows and decks that brighten the entire area and offer spectacular views. The dining area seats ten with additional seating at the breakfast bar for two. There is also a large picnic table on the deck for 10+. The kitchen island is centrally located in the house with vaulted ceilings and lots of handcrafted character. A great place to enjoy cooking in an open floor plan to the living room and loft. The Master bedroom has a Queen bed and adjacent bathroom, the second bedroom has a full bed and 1/2 bath. The loft has a Queen bed. (Only the two upstairs bedrooms and loft are part of the log area.) Three downstairs bedrooms have 1 King, 1 CA King, and 1 Full bed - great for the extra guests. One additional large bathroom downstairs. (New: Optional 7th bedroom for larger groups. 2 queen beds plus extra bathroom, 800 sq ft. add $100 per night.)

There are over 800 sq. ft. of deck wrapped with inspiring mountain views. There is a tree house, slide rock, and 25 foot tree swing for the kids. Bob crane and Hootie the owl fly by often.

Best Location on this River!

The Santa Ana River upper headwaters of the river in the San Bernardino Mountains still retain a free flowing character and outstanding natural values. The upper headwaters, including its sparkling waters, scenic verdant meadows, rich riparian habitat, and thick forests of pine, fir, and oak offer an outdoor recreation mecca for hikers, bicyclists and fishermen. There are several popular trail heads into the adjacent wilderness for hiking. Perfect place to reconnect with family and friends in a green and pristine mountain wilderness. Come and surround yourself with the natural beauty and privacy of a wooded landscape.

Give yourself time for writing and hiking, painting and reading and stargazing in this peaceful sanctuary. Sit back and take delight in the breath-taking view from the deck as the sun sets and listen to the soothing sounds of nature. Walk down the trail and enjoy the tranquil rippling water as a trout swims by to see who is visiting. Birdwatchers often spot owls, herons, ducks, woodpeckers, hawks and quail.

This is a quality rental for families, perfect for family reunions and retreats.

RESTRICTIONS: We only rent to responsible people. It’s NOT a party house. No smoking, no fires, no firearms, no pets, no boomboxes. Please respect our neighbors, NO music or noise outdoors after 9 pm.

About R.J. Hendrickson

Originally from the lake country of northern Minnesota. Robert hand-scribed this fabulous home and all the amazing details. Robert likes to tinker and invent. Anna is a graphic designer who enjoys landscaping this five acre canvas. Their hospitality experience included owning a bed and breakfast in New Zealand. The log house shares this five acre property with the owner’s cabin - 300' away from the house. We respect your privacy, but if you need anything we can assist immediately. We are very interested in making sure your stay is comfortable.

R.J. Hendrickson purchased this house in 1997

Why R.J. Hendrickson chose Angelus Oaks

We handcrafted this unique log home ourselves, with much attention to detail. Located in a beautiful green wilderness, the Santa Ana River is unique for So. California - green and pristine. Love the apple blossoms and yucca in the Spring. Bird watching includes herons, owls, quail and hawks. Stars are a lot brighter out here. We encourage our guests to learn about our region's rich history, encouraging stewardship of this rich and unique riparian environment.

What makes this house unique

Private gate, 1/2 mile to the cabin. Only ten neighbors, all homes are on 5 acres surrounded by 30+ miles of beautiful national forest. This is not crowded like Big Bear. Fabulous views. Hike down the river for miles.

Guestbook comments from the owner

RJ…just want to add my 2 cents worth.

We really enjoyed the 2 night stay at your Log cabin. What an accomplishment. My daughter and her husband flew out from Dallas just for my Mom’s 90th birthday celebration, so you know this was a big deal for me and Tammy to have our mom honored like this. Your place was perfect. And added to that was the warm feeling you gave us to be around you. We have been emailing each other back and forth saying how we hope we can all get together again and do a repeat.

The Most Magical Cabin

  • 5 of 5
From the moment that I got out out of my car til the moment I stepped into this magical place, I knew i was heaven. Seven bedrooms - each with its own theme, each bed with fresh linens, immaculately clean bathrooms, full kitchen, separate dining room, every nook and corner, from ceiling to floor, i could see how the owners put in all their loving finishing touches. They have a washer and dryer, beautifully landscaped yards, tons of apples (in season) , same goes for blackberries and rasberries, three decks- one next to a flowing river, places to hike, to bikeride, etc.
if you want a place to go to , to help melt away the stresses of everyday life, to escape to a peaceful quiet place so that you could actually hear yourself think, then this is your special place. Thank you Rasa snd RJ, i had a wonderful time and hope to come back very very soon.Aciu Labai!!

This was the most magical place we have ever been!

  • 5 of 5
The log home is incredible. All of the hard work put into building it clearly shows. As my daughter put it - it is a "masterpiece". The log home sits in the most beautiful setting, surrounded by grass, flowers, open space, mountain views, an orchard, and is just steps away from the breathtaking Santa Ana River. The 25-foot tree swing was a huge hit with the kids - as was slide rock and fishing on the river. It was so nice to meet the owner, Anna. She was so gracious. I would highly recommend staying here to anyone - we will surely be back!

Amazing view, lovely sound of river, unique cabin

  • 5 of 5
We were a group of 9. But another family of 2 joined us for the last day of our stay. This place is a piece of heaven. It is very big and clean, we always had extra room. One big loft that is good for two and is a treat for teens. Down stairs had three bedrooms and main level has a very cute master bedroom with its own bath room, and another bedroom that has half bath in it. We were 5 adults in our group, 3 engineers including myself and 2 doctors, very picky when it comes to health. This place was the cleanest so far in our list. We were so happy that we could walk barefoot in the cabin as we do at our home. Owners are the kindest and their dogs were our angeles. Kids loved them and miss them dearly. God bless itchy, silver( my favorite) and hug, and their owner. You should see the effort that RJ and Ana put in this so beautiful museum like cabin. The apple garden, beautiful trees and flowers, breath taking view of mountain, sound of river that is just a few steps down the road, playing on a swing rope , these were just less than 2 hours from Los angeles and orange county, where we were coming from. Just to let every one know, even though the owners live close by, but it is the most private place i had ever seen. You could reach them whenever you want to but the log is like a hidden gem, out of reach of any one but you. I can write a book about our vacation. This was my best vacation ever.

Thank you

Frida

Perfect for our family getaway!!

  • 5 of 5
Beautiful, secluded, well appointed cabin. Accommodated our group of 11 adults and 12 children very comfortably. I would recommend it to everyone! Our kids loved being able to explore around the cabin, running through the orchard, swinging on the tree swing, fishing and tromping around in the river! It was a kids paradise!! Anna and RJ were the BEST hosts! So accommodating and kind. We would love to come back!

2nd year in a row my family has stayed here. Great location in a private setting with direct access to the river that has trout to catch and water for the kids to play in. Really awesome tastefully decorated cabin. Perfect family vacation spot. The owners RJ & Anna are wonderful folks who will make sure you have everything you need. Highly Recommended!
