Just one block from the Malecon and the beautiful Bay of La Paz, you are truly in another world. Inside the very private walls of the Casita, you will find a cool, inviting, and intoxicating sanctuary that will be difficult to leave. The main part of the Casita has two bedrooms, a large modern living area, and a gorgeous bathroom. It is separated from the kitchen by a beautiful courtyard with intimate areas for dining and relaxing. Casa Casita defines the notion of Mexican indoor/outdoor living at its best.
We have furnished Casa Casita with an eclectic mix of wonderful 19th century Indian, Mexican, and Chinese furniture--but we have kept it simple. Both bedrooms have queen-sized beds with 300 thread-count, soft cotton linens and down pillows. The floors are cool concrete. Each bedroom is air conditioned, and large ceiling fans circulate the air in the living room and kitchen. There is also broadband internet (wi-fi and wired), cable TV with CNN, and a sound system that is iPod-ready. The kitchen is outfitted with a six-burner gas stove, new cookware, and service for six. You would have a hard time asking for more!
Casa Casita is centrally located in the heart of La Paz. It is within walking distance to an incredible array of restaurants, grocery stores and shops. And, of course, the Malacon is only a block away--perfect for a stroll at sunset along the Bay. There is even a Spanish language school next door. The beaches are a ten-minute drive from town. World-class diving, snorkeling, and fishing are all within easy reach in the Sea of Cortez!

I'm a travel photographer and my wife is an artist, so you can imagine the attention to detail we've given to our casita.
Paul purchased this house in 2005
We love La Paz because it's a real city - not a tourist trap. We love walking on the boardwalk early in the morning and around sunset, where we get to see locals - entire families - doing the same thing: enjoying the setting and the vibe.
Wow, what an amazing place to stay while in La Paz! It is literally 1 block off the Malecon and close to everything. You will need a car to visit a couple of the far out beaches but the local beaches are within walking distance. I ca't say enough amazing things about this place. It is spacious yet cozy and very inviting once inside. Truthfully, I was not expecting it to be as nice as it was from the first glance of the outside but I was blown away once I entered the house. The main building has a beautifully furnished living room and two spacious bedrooms. I loved the furnishings in this space alot, very eclectic and comfortable. The living room has a TV and DVD player and all three rooms have fans and powerful A/C units. You really only need one AC unit on during the day. The only time we had both on was when we slept at night and it was very comfortable. The bathroom and the kitchen are separate from the main living area and are equally amazing. I LOVED the bathroom (I know, kind of a weird thing to say!) It was spacious and unique. Loved the decorations, double sinks and concrete shower. It can get a little hot in there but there are plenty of fans to help cool it off. I loved the touch of the exposed shelves under the sinks and wicker baskets filled with bathroom staples, beach towels and bath towels. Everything you needed was there and readily available for use. In order to get to the kitchen you had to walk through the courtyard. I LOVED the courtyard. It is full of plants and flowers and is a very cool place just to hang out. They have a spacious sitting area with comfortable loungers and tables so you can just relax with a nice cold beer. I loved the touch of the fairy lights throughout the courtyard which you could use as your only source of light at night. It made the courtyard seem like a magical place. The kitchen is huge and fully equipped. Can't say much about the kitchen cause besides cooking breakfast once we did not really use it. We went out to eat everyday (so easy to do cause all the restaurants you can dream of are about 30 seconds away from the house!) But if you wanted to cook at home, you absolutely can, you have everything you need. I would highly recommend this rental. It is in a great location and it is beautifully equipped. The owners, Joan and Paul are amazing as well. They were very responsive and answered all of our questions. There is a local woman (can't remember her name off the top of my head) who will meet you and open t
Really enjoyed our stay here. The location was perfect to access both the waterfront and the old portion of town. The house was very comfortable and the yard covered by wildly flowering bougainvillea which shaded the courtyard and made for a very beautiful place to relax when not out walking the town. Would definitely go back and stay here again.
Paul and Joan's Casita was just delightful. We arrived the afternoon of the end of Carnival and were delighted after walking one short block to the Malecon to witness a fantastic parade complete with floats, music and tons of enthusiasm by the locals. The Casita has a beautiful patio which was decked out in Bougainvillea blossoms during our visit. All the rooms were ample and furnished as expected. Paul's handbook is helpful with extensive lists of where to shop, restaurants, tours, etc. Grocery shopping is a short 5 blocks away. Being just one block away from the Malecon/Beach is a real plus as it is such a pleasant place for taking a walk, seeing the sunset and just hanging out to watch the local activity. We certainly recommend this Casita for a charming stay in La Paz.
A charming casita very well located.
Two minutes walk to the malecon and five minutes to an excellent supermarket and European style bakery.
Very well equipped this casita has total charm, in particular the central courtyard with overhanging bougainvillea is perfect in which to relax and enjoy a glass of wine.
There are numerous maps and guides within the casita and the owners "guide" to the property, sightseeing and restaurants is extremely useful. The manager lives nearby and is very helpful.
We did not make it to La Paz because Aeromexico cancelled the flight (it was supposed to be a Delta codeshare) and that information did not get transfered to us by the airline or by Expedia. By the time we tried to check in online, there was no other reasonably comfortable way to travel on or near our dates. Other than offering us rididulous times to fly (overnighters, 19-hour layovers), the airlines were useless and Expedia was not much better. Paul was very helpful and suggested great travel alternatives that would have worked fine if we had had even a day or two more to rebook. Lesson: book directly with the airline, be careful of flights to Baja, esp. La Paz, and check them frequently as things change in Mexico and those changes don't always get communicated.
We were unable to visit La Paz because Delta/Aeromexico cancelled our L.A. to La Paz flight without informing us in advance. Be careful to check your flight to La Paz a few days before you leave! We were unable to find (or the airline was unable to offer us) an acceptable alternate route (what they had involved a midnight departure, a redeye, and a 19-hour layover -- and even a very flexible work schedule such as mine could still find THAT hard to swallow!). So we cancelled. Paul was very concerned and helpful, suggested further alternatives, and generally went out of his way to try to get us to La Paz! We'll re-book for another winter. And my advice if you book on VRBO is to purchase cancellation insurance, because even if the airline messes everything up, they are not going to compensate you for the cost of your vacation rental. We have just learned that the hard way--
We just stayed at the Casita for 11 nights and it was the perfect experience for our family! Everything was exactly as advertised and perfectly set up for our stay. The manager was waiting for us upon arrival and the owner explained all details to us before we arrived. The patio and kitchen are excellent for families and my three-year old son loved being in the house. The Casita is within walking distance of a supermarket, all major sites and the plaza, the waterfront, restaurants, tour companies, and even the bus station! La Paz is a perfect base for your vacation as it is a typical Mexican city and there are a great variety of day trips available in the area. And the Casita is the perfect base for your stay in La Paz. This is also an excellent value when you start to compare the prices of hotels in the area. We highly recommend the Casita for your visit.
