CHARMING VILLAGE HOUSE IN SOUTH LUBERON WITH TERRACE VIEWS

Cucuron House Rental Photos and Description

Terraced house with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sleeps 4, air con/heating

Hiding at the end of a quiet pedestrian cul-de-sac within the walls of the oldest 13th century part of the village, this charming old stone terraced-house appears from the outside to be part of an earlier era. Now tastefully restored and well appointed, the house does not have a garden but the roof terrace offers stunning views across the rooftops to the Luberon and across the valley the mountain St Victoire. This historic village dates back to 1004 and boasts restaurants, bakeries, shops and a cash machine all within easy walking distance. You can soak up the ambiance at the cafe in the shade of the plane trees by the renowned rectangular pond. Located on the gentle southern slopes of the Luberon, Cucuron enjoys clear light and blue skies with sunshine some 300 days per year. Life runs at a slower pace here and you will too, yet there is always something going on. The perfect place to relax, explore, walk and eat well!

Suitability:
  • unsuitable for elderly or infirm
  • wheelchair inaccessible
  • non smoking only

Thanks for all the useful info and for making it so easy for us to commit to this house. All was perfect - weather, house, location. We made many road trips - even down to Cassis, but loved coming 'home' to Cucuron!

GREAT CHARACTER HOUSE WITH WONDERFUL ROOF TERRACE

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I stayed in this beautiful Cucuron house for a week and only wished that we could have stretched this to several! On arrival we found the house to be immaculately clean and tidy and we were struck by the rich character throughout. The roof terrace was a perfect setting for breakfast, lunch and dinner while taking in views over the rooftops to the distant Luberon mountains and surrounding countryside and idly watching swifts as they chirped and performed mesmerising aerobatics all around.
The house is an ideal base for touring and walking the area and we cannot wait to make a return visit. The owners Jonathan and Eve provided very helpful documentation and local advice to make this a truly superb holiday.

A PERFECT RETREAT

  • 5 of 5
This house in the charming village of Cucuron is all you could ask for. Beautifully presented, spotlessly clean and with everything you could possibly need it makes a wonderful base from which to explore and experience the Luberon. The roof terrace is sheltered and allows superb views over the village and surrounding countryside. Special thanks to Jonathan for his comprehensive information booklet within the house and for his considerate and prompt attention to all enquiries and communication.
Cucaron itself is lovely with a lively local market on Tuesday mornings and every amenity - the Spar shop is excellent as is the local Moulin d'huile. Also not to be missed is nearby Lourmarin with its chateau and excellent market on Fridays.
All in all this is a wonderful place and a beautiful region and we can recommend a stay there.

LUBERON BLISS

  • 5 of 5
We've just returned from a perfect 5-night stay at Chez Wort in the small Luberon village of Curcuron. This historic and charming home is beautifully renovated with two new bathrooms and a well-appointed kitchen with all the conveniences, including a combination washer/dryer. The two bedrooms are downstairs and are very quiet for sleeping, with comfortable mattresses and crisp bedding. A futon is also available on the top floor in the room connected to the terrace (which is a lovely place to admire the countryside while sipping wine and listening to the church bells). Wifi is easily accessible, and we also watched a bit of British TV:) Jonathan and Eve have two bikes, and we enjoyed exploring the maze of country lanes which are traffic-free. The April weather ranged from 10 on cloudy days to 25 and bright sunshine on other days. There are two bakeries just down the street, one of which is closed on Mondays (as is the grocery store, The Spar) and the other is closed on Wednesdays, I believe. There are also two wine cooperatives in town, and the market on Tuesday mornings is fabulous (roast chicken). We enjoyed lunch twice at Cafe L'Etang, one of several restaurants adjacent to the man-made pond, "L'Etang" (as featured in the Russell Crowe movie, A Good Year). We visited lots of towns and villages in the area; Lourmarin is only a five-minute drive away and is a more touristy-type town, but there's a great market there on Friday mornings and Pizza Noni is worth a visit (top-ranked on Trip Advisor last time I checked, reasonably priced for lunch, and delicious). Although everyone was friendly, we didn't encounter too many English-speaking people in the area (which only adds to the authenticity of the village) but two of us speak French so there were no problems. Curcuron is a beautifully quaint and tranquil village, and we certainly hope to return to Chez Wort! Jonathan provided us with very detailed information before our visit, and we felt privileged to spend time in such a thoughtfully decorated, welcoming (including postcard note and bottle of wine from our hosts), and reasonably-priced, home.

LOVELY OLD TOWN HOUSE IN SOUTH LUBERON

  • 5 of 5
Perfect place for a relaxing holiday. Situated in old town close to good bakeries and butcher. The house features a stunning terrace with amazing views! The village is very charming with a good choice of attractive restaurants some of them around the village's pond where there is also a lovely market on Tuesdays. Excellent base for exploring the countryside and the many interesting sites nearby. The owners service was excellent, informative and very forthcoming. We can highly recommend this property.

TRES BELLE MAISON

  • 5 of 5

Car: recommended

With low cost airline flights (e.g. Ryanair, EasyJet) to Marseille and Nimes (FlyBE to Avignon), why not consider a short break in Cucuron? Fast Eurostar and TGV links mean the train journey from London to Aix TGV station is just 7 hours. Car rental is widely available at airports and stations. Situated at the edge of the Luberon National Park, this is paradise for walkers and lovers of the outdoors. Nearby Lourmarin, designated one of the 'most beautiful villages in France', has a bustling Friday market. There are more villages to explore north of the Luberon including Bonnieux, Menerbes and Gordes. Yet the buzz and culture of the university town of Aix en Provence is only 30 minutes drive with historic Avignon some 60 minutes away. For those who cannot resist the Mediterranean, the port and beach at Cassis is just over an hour. During the summer, check out the art exhibitions and music festivals which are arranged throughout the region.

Notes:
The home is tastefully equipped and spacious. It will be most appreciated by a couple or two, or a family of 3 or 4 wishing to get away from it all to enjoy the relaxed pace of life in inland Provence, outside the fast lane. Reversible air conditioning units in each room provide cooling in summer and rapid heat in other seasons. There is wireless Internet access but no telephone in the house. It should be noted that the property has stone stairs between various levels, a terrace at roof level and does not have a garden or outside space. Therefore this home is unlikely to be suitable for young children (except infants). The owners use the property themselves when they can: they offer the home so that others can experience the charm of living in the oldest part of Cucuron, which they have so much enjoyed in recent years.
