Circa 1899 structure, beautifully renovated!
Originally located on the railroad track, was moved 1 block away in 1906 when the Frisco Railroad Company purchased the property to build its proposed depot. In the 1920's it became the Crystal Barber Shop, remaining so until the 1980's. Barber shop cabinetry has been restored and is in the front room of the rental.

Part of Crowley's history...that could have been lost because of it's terrible condition. I enjoy renovation/restoration of old properties and was fortunate to be able to save this one!
My husband and I have rented many vrbo homes in various places, and this was the best yet! Ann made sure everything was perfect when we arrived, even stocking the fridge with milk, creamer, bagels, butter, jelly, soft drinks and bottled water! WOW! The minute you open the gate to the property, you are entering a lush garden that leads to the back courtyard and fishpond. My grandchildren loved feeding the fish every day with the fish food that Ann left on the back porch with instructions on how much to give them. (She never leaves any detail out; amazing!) The porch was so comfortable with six large rockers and the sound of the fountain in the courtyard. The house is amazing, and the barber shop is fantastic! I've also never visited such a clean house! We loved hearing the train go by and really only noticed it the first night. The bar next door does have a band on Friday nights, but that didn't bother us. If you like to go to bed early and are a light sleeper, just bring a sound machine (there's actually one in the master bedroom). Thank you, Ann, for providing such a wonderful place to stay in the heart of Cajun country!! We will be back!
Absolutely beautiful home. Perfect in every way inside and out and so comfortable. Once you enter the gate, you feel like you are in a beautiful tropical garden. Gorgeously landscaped yard. 5 stars inside & out.
We had the pleasure of staying at the Rice Cottage for 7 nights in March and loved it. The place has been renovated with love and consideration and is absolutely charming. Ann went out of her way to make us welcome and the photographs on the website do not do the cottage justice. It was unfortunately a bit too cold to enjoy the outside area as much as we would have liked to, but when the sun shone, we could be found either sitting by the pond watching the fish or on ther covered deck reading in the rockers. Although next door to a bar we hardly heard anything at all and even on the Friday night when they had live music it was not a problem. I initially thought there would be a problem with the trains as I am a light sleeper, but my ear plugs solved that, and to be honest, after the first night, you sort of forget them (see Ann, you were right!). My husband had no problem sleeping and he goes plugless! So do not be put off, the cottage is a lovely haven for staying and exploring the area. I would definitely recommend this property to anybody wanting somewhere luxurious and peaceful. Thank you Ann for allowing us to enjoy this lovely cottage and if we are ever in the area again we know exactly where we will want to stay.
Immaculate and sooooo charming! We stayed 2 nights while attending a family wedding. The property is great. Snacks were provided for arrival and greatly appreciated. City Bar (located nest to cottage) had a band Friday night. With the sound machine, my husband and I didn't have a problem, but my son-in-law was awake till 1 or 2. You can hear the trains when they come through, so if you're a light sleeper and can't get back to sleep, that could be a problem. I would not hesitate to stay there again. Our twin grandsons enjoyed the screened- in back porch with it's rockers and an Easter egg hunt in the beautiful courtyard. TOTAL ENJOYMENT.
This cottage and the owner are amazing! I was so pleasantly surprised by the beautiful walkway and gardens, fountains, sweet porch...the decor details are stunning. My boyfriend and I stayed for 2 nights and absolutely loved it...we both cook and the kitchen was perfect. I LOVE how you can rent only the back (I bed, 1bath) - which was ideal for us - or the entire house...very versatile. I thought I would miss the front room but I hardly noticed it was even missing, our stay was so special on its own!
The owner thought of everything, from the special make up removal towels (which were great!) to butter and bagels in the fridge. Its like a cross of your favorite bed and breakfast - with the privacy and amenities of a hotel - and all the comforts of home. The coffee shop around the corner has delicious espresso. We took a brouchure from the visiting info the owner provided and went on a lovely driving tour of the scenic farms. The surround sound that even played outside (magical!) with adorable garden lights at night was fabulous! I can't wait to go back!
We were in town for a family wedding and this cottage allowed us to feel at home immediately. Exquisitely decorated, yet extremely comfortable, we were able to host family and friends over the weekend and enjoy their company. Plenty of outdoor and indoor space and the flow of the rooms allowed our guests to move easily and comfortably. Everything was wonderful!
Crowley is a turn of the century town known to have the largest concentration of Queen Anne and Victorian homes between Houston and New Orleans. It is also a Tree City USA member. The central location in Prairie Cajun Country makes it a convenient place to stay while attending area fairs and festivals.
A great place to stay for bird watchers and nature lovers touring the marshlands.
