I made and lost three fortunes in my life. But the fourth was a charm and managed to hold on to most of it. Owned a business in Dallas for a number of years. One day in 2006, after a year of bordum - I threw my keys to the Company President and left for St. John, USVI to construct villas. I completed my third in 2013. Also wrote two books, 'Keep Left' a comedy about the people and incidents that occurred with the first island build. It's sold out. The second novel 'Flat Busted' is a adventure/action book set in the Caribbean. I live each and every day as it were my last and split my time between this great estate in Aspen and time on St. John.
Mike Mullen 'Mulley' purchased this estate in 2003
One winter Saturday morning in 1993, I received a call from an Aspen Broker that I had been long acquainted with who stated 'You need to immediately come to Aspen, I got the buy of a lifetime for you!' Upon walking in to the place, I was completely blown away with the view of snow covered Independence Pass! And you will also be. Located on 2.5 acres at the top of a mountain, I ripped down the original 'drug house' in 2002 and built Eagles Nest giving every thought to design detail, elegance and comfort. Wildlife abound with nearly fifty surrounding acres of trees and forest.
Can't begin to describe the feeling you have at Eagle's Nest. Absolute quiet, expansive views from every window and deck. Top of the line furniture. You have to personally experience it - than time and time again return to this sanctuary!
We've stayed at several rental houses in Aspen but the Eagle's Nest is now at the top of our list. There is certainly a "wow" factor when you enter as you are surrounded by magnificent views in every direction. The house is beautifully furnished and very comtemporary and comfortable, the kitchen fantastically equipped and everything clean, well cared for and lovely. There are a variety of outside spaces and balconies to enjoy your morning coffee or a glass of wine outside on the patio with a fire going and fantastic views of the mountains . We particularly loved the surround sound on both levels, the lighting and the many details that made this such a pleasant experience. The hot tub and steam shower was an added plus. One of the best features of the house, besides the overall beauty, is the privacy that it affords. You don't need to worry about noisy neighbors or partying ski crowds...we really felt as if we were totally by ourselves on top of the mountain surrounded by beauty and nature and the magnificent mountain views out of every window. Another bonus was the proximity to the airport (we were here for a month and had to make a couple of trips out) and to the AABC where there is a terrific grocery store (Roxy's) and Louis Swiss Bakery where you can get a latte and a fresh loaf of bread or pastry. In many ways, the location was more convenient than being closer to town.
The owner was a pleasure to deal with, totally responsive to every question or problem and very generously offers the use of a vehicle during your stay (of a month) at no cost which was a huge savings.
One of the things we liked the best is that there are large open spaces where the whole family can congregate both inside and out and yet there are intimate, quiet spots where you can sneak off to get away from the rest of the group. This would make it equally great for a girls getaway or a family with both small or adult children. There is also the great Snowmass Rec Center which is just down the road and has a great outdoor pool plus a wonderful gym.
We wholeheartedly recommend the Eagle's Nest....5 stars plus!! Just don't try to book it for the month of June for the next 10 years as that's what we plan to do.
We just finished a lovely week at this magnificent home. The artwork was fabulous; the views exceeded our expectations and the home had a great flow to it. The media room was terrific for viewing movies; the library was relaxing and the decks out of this world for viewing purposes. I highly recommend this home for a peaceful and relaxing vacation. It has every amenity you will need and more..... (i.e. a wonderful cutting garden for fresh flowers in the house). Would not hesitate to rent it again.
I would have to say that everything with the house was PERFECT! Out of a score of 1-10 this house would be an 11. The views are outstanding and the location was among the best. If you like it quiet and relaxing as well as every amenity this is the place to come to. I just hope it is available when I want to come back! The owner was great to work with and Kathie who helped us get settled into the house was so accommodating and helpful. Look forward to coming back soon!
