About Barb Brunius
Bob & Barb moved from Minnesota to be close to the ocean and to sail. We bought a great 40ft racing sailboat and spent much of the last 13 years in competitive racing in the Pacific NW. Before moving we went shopping for land on Orcas and purchased 16 acres on the top of Scott Hill in the Victorian Valley. We built a custom home and guest home designed by renowned local Architect Roy Lundgren.
Barb Brunius purchased this estate in 1998
Why Barb Brunius chose Orcas
We built on the Scott Hill location due to its fantastic marine views to the SE, South, West ans NW. We also never tire of the year-round great sunsets. We built on Orcas Island because of its location -- on the water and close enough to the mountains for convenient skiing without living in the snow. We also love the weather. Orcas has short winters without much snow, cherry blossoms in February and March, sunny summers, and generally moderate temperatures.
What makes this estate unique
Privacy with expansive marine and mountain views, bird songs in a peaceful setting, camp fires in the woods, relaxing in the hot tub, swimming in the indoor 70-foot lap pool, and exercise facilities so you don't feel too decadent enjoying all the other amenities.
Guestbook comments from the owner
Booking a rental house without having the chance to see what the property is like ahead of time always feels a bit risky. With Orcas Oasis, though, you can put those fears to rest. Situated at the top of a hill overlooking West Sound, the spacious main house offers top-quality finishes, comfortable living spaces, expansive views, and every modern convenience you could ask for. Special features include an indoor lap pool, exercise and weight room, a hot tub, and hundreds of feet of decking from which you can watch some of the most beautiful sunrises or sunsets you will ever see.
The property also includes a large open space behind the house which is terrific for kids or pets to run around in. Larger groups will find that the layout includes several different types of living space, both inside and out, so those wanting some time away from the main group can find some solitude. Barb and Bob have created an oasis on Orcas Island that we hope to be able to revisit again and again.
