FURNISHED APARTMENT FOR RENT IN THE CENTRE OF FLORENCE

San Giovanni-Duomo Apartment Rental Photos and Description

1 bedrooms, 1 full bathrooms, sleeps 4

Casa Luce in San Lorenzo is located in the spacious Piazza del Mercato Centrale in San Lorenzo, at number 27, in the heart of Florence. It is within 5 minutes walking distance from the Cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore and the Baptistery of San Giovanni, and within 10 minutes walking distance from the Uffizi, Piazza della Signoria and Ponte Vecchio.

Casa Luce can easily be reached by car and agreement can be taken for the parking. Nevertheless a car is not needed: the main train station is 5 minutes away and all the city centre is within walking distance. Bicycles can be easily rented and sightseeing buses stop at 5 minutes of walk from home.

The flat, on the second floor of a XVI century building, is completely renewed not only in its structure, but also in its elegant and refined interiors. It has been furnished with ancient furniture and it is well equipped as we ourselves often come to enjoy Florence, sometimes with a couple of friends.

LOCATION AND DIRECTIONS: The location is another strong point. In the very heart of Florence, Casa Luce is located within 5 minutes walking distance from the Cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore and the Baptistery of San Giovanni, and within 10 minutes walking distance from the Uffizi, Piazza della Signoria and Ponte Vecchio.

CAR OR TRAIN?

The apartment can easily be reached by car but it is very convenient also if you plan to stay without. The main railway station of Santa Maria Novella is only five minutes walk away and it is connected with the airport with 2 shuttles every hour.

Bicicles can be easily rented, and sightseeing buses stop five minutes away.

SIGHTSEEING: Casa Luce is ideally situated to explore central Florence from its heart, without the need to use a car or public transportation, as most of the city center is prohibited to traffic.

The apartment is very near to Michelangelo’s Medici Chapels, the Basilica of San Lorenzo, the Duomo of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Medici Library, the Riccardian Library and the Marucellian Library.

Here some information for you. I'll be glad to help you in your needs.

The Cappelle Medicee (Piazza Madonna degli Aldobrandini, open: first, third and fifth Sun of every month: 8:15am - 5pm, weekdays: 8:15am - 5pm, closed first and third Mon of every month).

The chapel is an adjunct of the greater church, theBasilica di San Lorenzo (Piazza S. Lorenzo, open Sun from March to Oct: 1:30 - 5:30pm, weekdays: 10am - 5:30pm.)

Gothic cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, is best known as the Duomo (Piazza del Duomo), Sun: 1:30 - 4:45pm, Weekdays: 10am - 5pm, Thurs: 10am - 4:30pm, Sat: 10am - 4:45 pm

EATING IN FLORENCE: Right in Piazza del Mercato Centrale there are many restaurants and trattorias where you can eat. During the mild season it is pleasant to eat at the outside tables. I will be pleased to give you information and suggestions on the ones I prefer.

For grocery shopping nothing is better than the typical colored banks of fruit, vegetables, fresh bread, milk, meat and cheese located inside the nineteenth century building of the Mercato Centrale, right in front of you. (Mon-Sat 7am-2pm, Sat 4pm-8pm). There is plenty of fresh produce, cured meat, and local cheese to be sampled and purchased from a variety of vendors.

You can also consider that in Via Ginori there is a market which is open everyday until 7:00 p.m., even on Sunday.

Of Florentine origin, I left my home town for love and adventure. I'm an art historian and I live in Montevarchi (Arezzo), a small town in the Chianti area, not too far from Florence.

Baba purchased this apartment in 2008

I bought Casa Luce because I grew up in Florence and I love my town so much. I didn't buy it only for rental purposes: I often come to Florence myself-alone or with friends- for a relaxing weekend, for a special dinner or to visit an art exhibition.

We had an incredible time staying in this awesome, clean, well set up apartment! The most convenient location to excellent restaurants, the central market (which is fantastic!!), and all of the amazing sights and scenes in the heart of Florence! The host, Barbara is a lovely and very friendly woman and look forward to returning for future visits!!

*As this apartment is situated above a restaurant which sets up their outdoor dining area early every morning and plays live music late into the evening, sound travels easily, so pack earplugs or be prepared to listen to Woderful Italian tunes all night!!

Five out of five :)

Loved the Apartment

Many thanks to Barbara for the use of this apartment for one month in November. We loved Florence and we loved her apartment. Making arrangements on-line with Barbara was easy. We appreciated being met at the unit and shown through. We found the apartment well priced and it contained everything we needed for a fun and comfortable month's stay.

"Casa Luce" is located very centrally, easy to walk to major attractions and to the train station. The apartment is very close to everything. The beds were very comfortable and we loved the cozy duvets. The kitchen had everything we required to cook most of our meals including a good size refrigerator and freezer. Anyone requiring absolute quiet to sleep may have a problem with is apartment due to the restaurant below. We did not have any problems with excess noise.

Being a stones throw away from the central market was a treat. We spent many a day shopping for our daily fruits, veges and fish. There were many choices of restaurants nearby.

We plan to return to Florence again and hope that we will be able to stay in Barbara's apartment.

Great Location in Florence

My niece and I stayed at Casa Luce in Florence and it was perfect. Barbara was so nice to work during the booking process. She had a friend meet us at the apartment who was kind, helped us with our luggage and showed us the details of the apartment. great shopping, local markets, bakeries etc. It was close to the train/bus station which was perfect. It was located in the large market area which was great but also a little active in the mornings and evenings. Also there are three flights of stairs in a narrow hallway that you have to carry your suitcases up so if you are not capable of doing that, it might not be the place for you. Great place to stay.

Fantastic

we recently stayed here for 9 days. How amazing. The apartment is very conviently located, close to train station, but still only a short walk to all Florence has to offer. Our family of 4 were very comfortable, we cooked many meals in house with goodies from the Mercato Centrale right across the street. The apt was clean, and well stocked. We spent many hours people watching out the front windows. Great sense of community around San Lorenzo, the vendors we dealt with were all very friendly and helpful. Barbara herself was a delight to work with. The food itself is worth the trip!! Many small non-touristy places to eat authentic Florentine meals while interacting with the local community, eating at these types of places was very rewarding and not expensive. One of our most memorable meals was right below our flat. Don't know the name, but it is the restaurant between the 2 ZAZA restaurants. Fabulous food and service (Shiad took great care of us all week, even though we didn't plan on eating there until our last night!). Eating at the central market was always amazing and inexpensive, as well as the small shop right orotund the corner from the flat (out the door, right, then right around corner, stopped, go in door on right).

A Wonderful Place to Stay in Florence

My daughter, granddaughter (17) and I stayed at "Casa Luce" for a week at Easter and loved every minute of our stay. The apartment is just as described on the website, beautifully renovated in the Renaissance style appropriate for that 16th century building, yet equipped with the most modern appliances--wifi, TV/DVD, heat, air-conditioning, a well-furnished kitchen that even has a dishwasher. The presence of restaurants on the square below does mean a certain level of noise in the evening and again in the early morning as the Piazza del Mercato Centrale comes to life, so light sleepers might want to choose the middle room where there is a comfortable double bed. But at least there was no roar of motorcycles or automobile traffic as there usually is in Italian cities, and my daughter and granddaughter got used to the buzz of conversation from below our windows. The fact that there are restaurants nearby is also of course a positive advantage after a day of sight-seeing. We had some wonderful leisurely dinners in more than one, and sampled a variety of Tuscan dishes that blend flavors as only the Italians can do. Across the square the huge Mercato Centrale, open from 8-2 and comparable to Les Halles in Paris, offers stand after stand of meats, fish, vegetables, and fruits as well as coffee, wine, cheeses, and artisanal oils and vinegars. It's an interesting place to visit even if you don't plan to buy anything. And around the corner is a small supermarket for things like milk and fruit juice. As others have said, the location of the apartment just couldn't be better--5 minutes from the train station, 5 to the Duomo, another 5 to the Uffizi and the River. Florence is a very walkable city and we took advantage of that, even walking back on Easter Sunday from the Piazzale Michelangelo across the river where we had gone for the view (recommended!), a 25 minute stroll on a pleasant afternoon.I really enjoyed corresponding with and then meeting Barbara, the owner of the apartment who was there to meet us when we arrived and show us around. She is a warm and thoughtful person who takes care to make sure her guests are comfortable -- she gave us her cell phone number in case we had still had questions. Thanks, Barbara. It was a pleasure.

Map

Car: not necessary

Monument View: You look over the square of the San Lorenzo Central Market, right in the centre of Florence.

The panorama is enchanting, with a splendid view over the large square of the remarkable nineteenth century building of the Mercato Centrale, one of three covered food markets built when Florence was the capital of Italy post-unification in 1860, a rarity for Florentine Renaissance standards.

The apartment is in the very center of Florence, perfect for art touring. Just few minutes walk to Michelangelo’s Medici Chapels, the Basilica of San Lorenzo, the Duomo of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Medici Library, the Riccardian Library and the Marucellian Library, Ponte vecchio.

Interesting shopping from famous jewellers, antique furniture restorer and italian fashon shops.

Day trips to Pisa, Lucca, Portofino and Liguria are easy with a car or by train.
