Photos and Description of the Wengen vacation chalet rental Wengen - Home of the famous Lauberhorn ski race.

Wengen is situated on the foot of the magnificent Jungfrau on a wind sheltered, sunny terrace on an altitude of 1274 meters. The Chalet has been built on a sunny slope in the area of the Schiltwald. From the centre of Wengen (railway station, shops, Maennlichen cable car station etc.) it takes you 15 minutes on foot to the chalet or you can catch a taxi which drives you to the chalet. In winter the ski slopes and the Innerwengen chairlift is at a distance of approx. 400 meters. The chalet is in a very quiet and idyllic place and an impressive views of the mountains. The chalet has been built in a traditional style but is modern, cosy and bright and is arranged over 3 floors with gallery area in the roof. There are two large balconies from which you enjoy the fantastic views across and down the Lauterbrunnen Valley.

Set amongst the 4000m peaks of Eiger, Jungfrau and Monch, Wengen is a car free village of natural beauty. The village sits high above the steep sided Lauterbrunnen Valley and is reached by cog railway. Nearby attractions include Jungfrau 'Top of Europe', at 3454m it is Europe's highest altitude railway station giving access to Glaciers and an Ice Palace. The Trummelbach Waterfall and Interlaken with many picturesque lakeside villages are also popular attractions.

Notes: Lounge has wonderful views and large balcony accessible via ceiling to floor glass doors. Traditional wood burning stove. There are two sofas, one of these is a sofa/bed. Master Bedroom is a wonderful room with huge vaulted ceiling, en-suite bathroom and large balcony overlooking Lauterbrunnen valley. Bed can be arranged as double or two single beds. There are also 2 large double fitted wardrobes providing a great deal of storage. Twin Bedroom contains two single beds and large en-suit shower room. Fitted wardrobe and overhead cupboards. Gallery is accessed via ladder with large wooden steps leading to large gallery which can be set up for maximum of 4 beds. It is nice and bright with two velux windows and window. Basement contains sauna and washing machine and dryer. Also storage space for equipment.

General Chalet Facilities: The chalet is fully equipped with brand new kitchen and washing facilities. All bathrooms are luxuriously fitted and have toilet and shower/bath facilities. We provide high speed internet access, 28' TV with a mixture of channels from most European countries including several from the UK. There is also a DVD player. There is a stereo system with iPod docking. This is a luxury chalet with excellent quality fixtures and fittings.

Summer Facilities: The living room double doors open up onto a large balcony which gets full sun from early morning to late afternoon and is equipped with wooden table and chairs, ideal for al fresco dining. There are also two sun loungers. The chalet is situated below a a small quiet lane with easy access to large number of walking paths in all directions.

Winter Facilities: The chalet is very close to a chairlift (approx 400m) providing access to ski slopes and a railway stop. The cog train provides access to the further slopes of Kleine Scheidegg or to the village. It is also possible to ski into the village. We have a traditional toboggan for your use. We have a traditional wood burning fire to add a cosy feel to your stay.

Other Activities: White water rafting.

A Fairytale of a place - with modern comforts!

Perfect for Christmas or any other time I should imagine, we were lucky enough to spend a family Christmas at racers retreat last year. Wengen is a fairytale place, especially when covered in snow. We loved walking from the chalet either winding up to the little farms or down into the village itself - a short walk among pines, streams and the stunning views of the mountains and valleys. No cars except the odd tractor and electric taxi. Wengen has just a little bit of everything, grocers, bakers, restauants and few select shops - it was so refreshing to be spending this time of year in a totally non commercial and charning timeless place. The chalet itself was perfect, good not to be in the main part of the village but tucked away with awe inspiring views in every direction. The interior is of the very highest standard and very clean. The wooden floors (underfloor heating), well equipped kitchen, the lovely balconies and 2 really good bathrooms served our party of 5 very well. I loved the cuckoo clock in the main room - not squawky at all - and didn't keep anyone awake either. There is so much to do in Wengen, Winter or Summer and the chalet is perfectly placed near a chair lift or the short walk into Wengen where the mountain trains run with startling efficiency. But one could just as happily relax with a dvd or a book and watch the light on the mountains change all around you.

Perfect Vacation Retreat!

In June of last summer my husband and I traveled around Europe with our daughter, her husband and our two granddaughters, 17 and 18 years old. Staying in 5 Racers Chalet for five nights was a highlight of our trip! On arriving at the Lauterbrunnen train station we bought six-day passes so we could easily travel around the area.

In Wengen after we arrived we took the local "taxi" to the chalet as it was easier with our luggage which included groceries for our stay. However the trail from town to the chalet is gorgeous and a very easy walk. Just know the trains are on time, so plan ahead if you are on a tight schedule.

Photos can't possibly do justice to the beauty of the area. The setting for the chalet is fantastic and the view from the living room and the master bedroom is spectacular. The loft is accessed by a ladder, but our teen granddaughters loved their private space.
The second bedroom is smaller than the master suite. It's great for kids, but if you are traveling with adult couples be prepared to make a decision about who gets the "room with a view!"

The kitchen is very well equipped and we cooked some great meals. As far as grocery shopping you can use the small cart they provide for transporting your purchases. It's great having a washer and dryer but can be a bit tricky figuring out how to run the washer.

We loved riding the trains all over the area. Hiking and bicycling were incredible. The bicycle ride from Murren to Gimmelwald to the valley is awesome. We had fantastic weather and the flowers were blooming all over!

After all our city touring it was great to stay where it was beautiful, quiet and peaceful! The property is spotlessly clean, well-maintained, and it's decor is charming. Customer service was great and I highly recommend this property! We loved it so much that we are staying there again this summer with our other daughter, her husband and two 12 year old grandchildren!

Family holiday

Our party of seven (3 couples and 1 teenager) have just returned from a week in Wengen - 5 Racers retreat to be precise. Just a few words to let all prospective tennents know how lovely it is. A smart new chalet with magnificent views and quiet location. With all amenities it is warm, clean,pretty and very comfortable. It would have been perfection to have another shower-room for the third bedroom. Picky I know, but as there was 3 couples plus 1 it would have been better. However, that really is a small point - the rest was wonderful!
2kms from the villiage may sound daunting to some, but one of the most beautiful walks I have ever done - and not hard! For the less active there is the chairlift next to the famous Mary's cafe 400m (just round the corner) from which you can join the train at Allmend to go either up to Kleine Scheidegg (and beyond) or down to the village. You can even join the tail-end of a blue run that takes you into the heart of the village!
