Absolute centre ville location of this beautiful historic French spa town. This 1st floor, 2 bedroom, one bathroom apartment has been recently renovated but retains all of its period features and charm such as the polished oak floors, high ceilings, french doors and windows and juliet balconies. A good 2 bedroom holiday apartment is a rare find so close to the atmosphere, energy and buzz of such a vibrant French town. To top it off, it includes access to one private secure car parking space (open air) just around the corner to take away all of those town centre traffic and parking hassles (peace of mind).

RIGHT AT YOUR DOORSTEP: Not one but two boulangeries at the front door, charcuterie, launderette, fromagerie, caves, cafes and bars all within 100m. Amelie les Bains has a daily (7 days) open air fruit & veg market selling locally grown produce and is located in the La Republic Square at the rear of the apartment building.

The town centre offers an abundance of good cafes, bistros and bars including a small casino all just a short walk from the apartment. The town square and central meeting place is 50m away and is always a buzz with activity and energy during the daytime. At night it takes on a more relaxed laid back persona with the cafes and food outlets leisurely catering for the local residents and visitors alike.

Amelie les Bains Palalda is noted for its two historic thermal spas which are in easy walking distance from the apartment (600m). Both spas offer a multitude of services at VERY reasonable rates especialy if you are intending to stay in Amelie for an extended period.

THINGS TO DO / PLACES TO VISIT: The local regional tourist office is located in the same street as the apartment and has a wealth of tourist information about the local area in both French & English.

Welcoming apartment in a charming village

As others have said, Amelie is a lovely village and the apartment is clean, comfortable, well equipped and in an excellent location with the added bonus of English TV connection. The balcony is wonderful with a pretty view between the adjoining buildings.
The daily fruit and vegetable market behind the apartment is a fabulous and cheap source of local produce. On some days oysters can be purchased and enjoyed with a glass of wine and bread at the cafe next to the market. There are several restaurants within 5-10 minutes walk and in the late afternoon there is regular entertainment - anything from street musicians to dancing and flamenco performances; or a game of petanque. There is also a great wine shop in rue Vallespir with a very knowledgeable owner and an extensive selection of local wines
We stayed for three weeks and did not have a car. A taxi from Perpignan on arrival (pre-booked) cost 75 euros. After that we used the one euro local bus to surrounding villages and for the return trip to Perpignan. The bus station is not more than a few hundred metres from the apartment and the buses have a luggage compartment. The bus terminal in Perpignan adjoins the train station. Couldn't be easier!
The daily excursions from the Amelie bus station are very reasonably priced and go everywhere from Collioure to Figueres and beyond. I even spent a day on the Midi Canal. The lady at the bus station is a gem and speaks English - as do the people in the Tourist Office.
I found navigating the thermal spas a bit challenging on the first couple of visits.They are set up to cater for 'curistes' rather than 'tourists' - so, there is no casual lounging in open pools. However, having figured out how it all works it was a wonderful experience and I enjoyed some great treatments. I am assured that they are working hard to make it an even greater experience for casual visitors.
The owners are charming and go out of their way to ensure that you have a happy visit. Highly recommended.

Excellent place to stay!

As another reviewer said, this is an older apartment, but we found it to be charmingly French. The squeaky living room floor just adds to the charm, we thought. It was clean and well furnished as the listing described. The balcony off the kitchen receives some intense sunshine and is a great place to relax. A main street location puts everything you might need just a few steps from the front door and a daily food market around the corner is a plus. We were there for 4 weeks and made good use of the 1 euro buses, choosing not to rent a car. There are numerous interesting and pretty sites to see nearby and pleasant areas to walk. Amélie itself is a scenic small town with the Tech River rushing through and surrounded by low mountains. Ian was an attentive owner and prompt with his replies to any questions we had. We would definitely recommend this apartment as we found it to be an excellent place to stay in a great location!

Perfectly wonderful

This apartment in Amelie is terrific. Exactly as described and pictured. It is an older apartment, but had everything I needed and was clean. I loved the center-of-town location. It was so easy to find everything, from the cheese shop next door, the market behind, to the tourist office down the street.
Ian was extremely helpful with suggestions of things to do in-and-around Amelie. I was there for one week and found several half-day hikes which required no driving (I especially liked the one to the Chapelle, ask at the tourist office). I also found it easy to get to beautiful seaside towns like Collioure and Banyuls. If you want to visit the mountains by train, Le Petit Train Jaune is not too far away, either. I even had time to book a massage at les Thermes.
I would highly recommend a visit to Amelie if you are looking for a small, friendly and charming French town which is a good base for exploring the region.

5* Apartment.

We stayed in this apartment for one month in April. We had wonderful time, no complaints at all. The rooms were all really big and airy, the French windows were really lovely to look out of and let lots of light in. The terrace at the back is a wonderful touch, and is covered from all wind, so its always warm there and we spent hours sunbathing. It was also spotless when we arrived.
The agency were helpful with the language barrier, which made things alot easier. And the neighbours in the building were also friendly.
The area was also really lovely. Theres lots of little bars/cafes and a couple of restaurants literally on the doorstep. The shops are either directly underneath you or just around the corner, and the fruit and veg market came in very handy.
The market in Ceret, (about 5 minutes away,) was the best French Market we've been too. Atleast 100 stalls and lots of atmosphere with a small Jazz band playing as you walk round. Collioure is also a must visit, very beautiful port town and thanks to Ian's recommendation we visited there twice in the space of a week.
Finally Ian was the most helpful Landlord we've had so far on our French travels. Very helpful and concerned, and always responded within 24 hours even with the distance!

The apartment is located in the historic French spa town of Amelie les Bains Palalda in the Pyrenees Orientales department of Languedoc-Roussillon. Located in a desirable centre ville location of this vibrant town this apartment soaks up the French atmosphere and village lifestyle beautifully.

Although a regular local bus service (1 euro per trip) is available between Amelie and Perpignan, if you are considering using the apartment as 'base' to explore the region a car is an essential item. As an added bonus to complement the centre ville location of the apartment we provide a private reserved car parking space in a locked open air compound just around the corner within easy walking distance to take away all of those traffic and parking hassles. Nice peace of mind!

This is a 1st floor spacious 70m2 apartment featuring 2 bedrooms, one bathroom and plenty of room to spread out. Recently renovated it still retains all of it classic French features such as polished oak flooring, high ceilings, french doors and juliet balconies overlooking the town square. It has been thoughtfully decorated and furnished for comfortable use by 4 adults or a small family and including a fully equipped modern kitchen which opens out onto a small 'sun trap' sitting terrace looking out towards the mountains. The abundance of large opening doors and windows makes the apartment feel bright and airy and allows for all of the Vallepsir cooling breezes to flow through during spring and summer.

The town of Amelie les Bains is noted for its two historic thermal spas which cater for visitors 11 months of the year. Their menu of services is excellent and are extremely good value for money especially if you are considering staying for an extended period. The town has an active commerce district operating all year round with a good selection of cafes, bars, shops and business services. There is also a 7 day a week fresh fruit and vegetable market located close by, as well as 2 boulangeries, 4 caves, fromageries, charcuteries, tabac newsagent and pharmacies all within 100 metres of the front door. All of your other day to day banking and business needs are also available in the town. Once a month on a Saturday the town holds a sizeable flea market in the main street which is always well attended. In historic Ceret 5km away they also hold a fabulous general market every Saturday and it should not be missed.

Another added bonus for 'english speakers' is that the TV system in the apartment is connected to a SKY Digibox allowing access to most free to air British TV channels (approx 15 - 20 in total). Unfortunately we do not have internet access currently available at the unit BUT free wireless internet access is readily available throughout the village in many of the local cafes and restaurants.

Amelie les Bains Palalda is a perfect base to explore the Pyrenees Orientales department and beyond. Within a 2 hours driving radius of Amelie you can easily reach as far as Barcelona to the south, Carcassonne and Sete to the north and the Mediterranean Sea to the east (a liesurely 45 minute excursion). Add the expected 300 days of sunshine a year to the equation and where else would you want to enjoy your vacation year after year.
