Austin House - historic home in a quiet coastal village.

History of area: Addison was a ship building town in the latter part of the 19th century. There were two shipyards in Addison at the time and the town's life revolved around the industry. The residents not only built the ships but also sailed them all over the world. Most of the town residents owned shares in the ships and so shared in the profit and losses of the industry. Many of the residents today of Addison are descendants of the ship builders and ship captains. They carry on the tradition of earning their living from the sea today with many ports here full of fishing vessels. Today, there is a 90 ft. schooner being built just down the street. The current owners of the ship hope to launch in the fall of 2012.

Blueberries: This area is known as the Blueberry capital of the world! The blueberry barrens are beautiful year round, turning blue in July when the berries are ready to harvest, and red in the fall. You will find blueberries everywhere for sale at this time and they are yummy! The Machias Wild Blueberry Festival takes place in August.
