We found this place a little different than most VRBO properties we have rented in the past.
The location and the beach are out of this world. You really are on a privet beach. It is not crowded with people there are an abundance of shells and sharks teeth to be had with little or no work.
The house had a lived in feel to it. My wife even commented that it seemed like people live here year round and just left for a week so we can have it. The first day is seemed a bit odd with a fridge full of food and beer and wine around as well. That evening after reading the house rules I actually liked it a lot. They asked that you replace whatever you use. We were really tired night one so we just made spaghetti as all of the ingredients were all in the pantry. We shopped the next day after a good rest and replaced what we used but the convenience was great.
All in all I would stay again and suggest the home to others. We saw dolphins every day and home was delivered as promised.
If your ideal of a dream vacation includes seclusion, beathtaking sunsets, powdery soft sand, sleeping to the sounds of the surf and watching Pelicans dive-bomb for fish than you will love this charming beach home.
This place is so private that we felt more like natives than tourists. Most days we had the entire beach to ourselves. Plenty of stuff for the kids, they enjoyed buggie boarding, snorklin, swiming and looking for shark teeth. I actually finished 2 books while my husband fished for our dinner. When that didn't work out, a quick trip to the local fish market and drinking bottle of wine while relaxing in the hot tub ended a perfect day.
Everything I needed in the house was there and easy to find. The place was clean and well organized for any size family. I especially liked the spansive back deck with plenty of chairs and tables for our large crowd.
Can't wait to return to this special treasure.
If your "must have's" for a dream vacation include: privacy, breath-taking sunsets, running on powdery sand, going to sleep listening to the surf and watching the kids, swim, snorkel, build sand castles and actually get along with each other then I would recommend this hidden treasure of a home for your next trip to the Gulf. What surprised me the most was the seclusion of the property. I felt like we were the only ones on the beach. Instead of feeling like a tourist, I felt like a native.
The oversized deck (actually 2 decks) were perfect for our large group and running down to the fish market for the local catch, made every day end perfectly.
The property was clean and welcoming. All the necessities of home were available to me which was a nice suprise.
I would strongly recommend this vacation home and can't wait to come back again.
The pictures don't do justice to the BEAUTIFUL location of this property. The hot tub was a nice place to relax after a day on the beach. These are the main reasons I could have given the home a 5 star rating (location-location-location…). We were 4 families, 7 adults and 3 children. Although there are 4 bedrooms and 4 queen beds (one of the 4 is a sofa sleeper), there are only 3 bedrooms with queen beds (the upstairs room has a queen bed & queen sofa sleeper in the same room). It “worked” for our 4 families because one of the 4 family’s was a single parent/child combination that worked well in the room with the trundle bed. The best view in the house from the upstairs bedroom unfortunately wasn’t available because the hurricane shutter doesn’t work and it is stuck in the closed position ?.
In general the house was in disarray upon our arrival (there were some clothes and personal property in some rooms and not in others) and the overall cleanliness was not what I was expecting for the price I paid (the carpets could use cleaning, better organization of the house as a whole – there were books, games, and various items seemingly spread throughout the house without rime nor reason…). There lots of flashlights & battery operated lanterns in the main hall closet, however none of them had working batteries ?. Seating on the deck for dinner was great (citronella candles provided in the main hall closet to ward off bugs – which were never a problem for us during our stay…), as was the use of the sea kayak, snorkeling equipment, and lots & lots of beach toys for the children (this was a big & unexpected plus…). The bathrooms were clean, but the water pressure in each of the bathrooms left A LOT to be desired… The complementary bottle of wine for our first night was an unexpected treat ? !
Although I could not rate this house close to a 5 star resort, neither would I place it on the other end of the spectrum either (it’s NOT a “dump”), rather I would rate it middle of the road (I would have given it a 2 ½ star rating out of the possible 5 as opposed to the 3 star rating provided above if I could have).
The sunsets were BEAUTIFUL from the deck, we collected many, many sharks teeth while beach combing, and observed dolphins, rays, and numerous birds from either the deck or while walking on shore. We did take home many wonderful memories, we had a great time, but probably would not choose this house again for our next trip.
We had an amazing weekend in your home. My entire family had a wonderful experience. We witnessed a Green turtle lay her eggs right next to your stairs. The turtle patrol came the next morning to mark the nest. We were informed that the Green turtle is on the endangered list and very rarely seen here. We were blessed to have experienced this. The two hand painted chairs on the deck overlooking the water was a great place for my expecting daughter to enjoy the shade from the umbrella, relax and read a book. We had a great time! Thank you for sharing your home with others.
We spent three weeks family holiday there with 7 people (including our kids age 4 and 6, grandparents and my wife's sister) and this house turned out to be a really special place. We expected a house right on the beach - and we were not disappointed - but the big surprise was that we were in a truly secluded place - surrounded by largely untouched nature with very few people passing by on the beach. We saw dolphins in the ocean right from our breakfast table - and one night we even witnessed a sea turtle laying her eggs right next to our beach stairs. If you love nature this place is totally right for you! At the same time the house is very nice - complete with everything you can imagine - comfortable even for a larger group like us - with lots of luxurious details such as a hot tub on one of the decks or an air hockey table in the living room for the kids.
To make it short - we had a wonderful wonderful time and we hope to be back in the not too distant future to sit on those incredible beach chairs you see in the picture again to watch the ocean and smoke a cigar once more...
This home is located on the beach(Gulf of Mexico), one and a half miles from the public beaches north and south of the home which makes for a very private and secluded setting with minimal beach traffic (usually less then 10 people seen a day). It is less then 7 miles to area grocery shopping, retail, movies, and restaurants. Downtown Englewood is 8 miles away and is a small, quaint town with many specialty shops, restaurants and antique stores. Downtown Sarasota is 30 minutes away with fine dining, theater and high end shopping.
The home is approximately 80 minutes from Tampa and Tampa International Airport, and major sports teams including the Bucs, Rays and Lightning. It is ideally situated for spring training baseball games as it is centrally located between the Sarasota and Ft Myers teams and within 2 hours of the Orlando and Lakeland teams.
The home is 2 hours from Disney World and all the major Orlando attractions.
Nearby (less than 30 minutes), are 12+ golf courses of varying difficulty that will challenge golfers of nearly any level; Most courses are public, but there are some semi- private courses as well with availability from Nov to April.
Boats and jet skies are available on the Island to rent by the hour or the day, and the Freedom Boat Club has a site at Stump Pass for its members. The boating is fantastic with inshore boating on Lemon Bay and Stump Pass as well as offshore boating . There are many secluded beaches and sandbars in the area which are great picnic/cookout sites. Waterski and tubing areas abound inshore or near the beaches. During the winter season there is parasailing available. Kite Board lessons and rentals are also nearby.
Fishing is excellent right from the shore as well as from the Venice Jetties-8 miles away. Many excellent and nationally known fishing guides charter out of Englewood, Charlotte Harbor or Boca Grande. Tarpon season in Boca Grande and in the waters in front of the house extends from April- July. Tarpon are easily spotted rolling in the surf and easily seen from the deck of the house each morning. A sea kayak is available at the house for those adventurous fishing types.
The best feature is the beach out the back door with excellent swimming, snorkeling, miles of walking and shelling or just relaxing on the Gulf of Mexico!
