About Inga Middleton

My name is Inga Middleton. I am half Icelandic, half English. I grew up in Iceland but have lived in the UK on and off over the last 20 years.

Inga Middleton purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Inga Middleton chose South Iceland

I chose to buy a cottage near Reykjavik so we could enjoy being in the stunning and peaceful Icelandic country side, but close enough to the capital to be able to see friends and family. The cottage is also very cozy and comfortable, and the view down the valley is spectacular; on a clear day the majestic Snaefellsnes glacier can be seen in the distance. This glacier has a special place in the hearts of the nation and it is very special to have such a good view of of it.

What makes this cottage unique

We love hiking in the mountains surrounding the cottage and fishing in the lake.It is also easy to get to all the major sights of southern Iceland and there are some fantastic swimming pools less than half and hour away. Watching the sunset from the terrace or from the rocking chair is very special, especially in the spring during lambing season (may) when the little lambs skip across the field below the cabin.

Owner's Response: We normally get 5 star reviews, but these guests unfortunately encountered a leak from the kitchen sink which was fixed immediately, causing no further problems. I guess this is the reason for the 4 stars, but I am glad they liked the location of the cottage and how well equipped it is.

Wonderful, cozy cottage, impressive surroundings

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful holiday in this cottage! It was our first trip to Iceland and it was fantastic. The cottage is so cozy and in our first night, we saw the Northern lights - that was really amazing. We had luck with the weather, as well, and mostly sunny weather. The cottage is also a very good starting point for several trips: Horse Riding Laxnes Farm, Golden Circle,... and we visited Reykjavik a few times. There we started to a whale watching tour and we tried several restaurants: We love the restaurant "Geysir" - very cozy and the lamb was fantastic.
The landscape around the cottage is very impressive and due to only a few neighbours, it is perfect to enjoy the silence and the panorama view. But it is necessary to have a rental car.
The cottage was clean and well equipped. It is perfect for 2 people, but we could imagine, that it is also really nice for up to 4 people.
Inga (the owner) answered to our questions (via email) immediately and it was always a very pleasant writing.
We would highly recommend this property!

Owner's Response: Many more guests are reporting Northern Lights sightings which is great and the cottage is in a great location in terms of getting to most of the attractions of the southwest corner.

Wonderful christma time !

  • 5 of 5
When we have arrived in Iceland on 23rd december it was very cold, the roads were very icy and a strong wind was blowing a thin snow in all direction.

We had no problem to get our car rental at the airport. We did carefully follow the owner's road instruction and arrived safely at the cottage.

We did enjoy the place from the first minute we entered the house. It is small, nice and cosy. The kitchen is fully equiped. The atmosphere of the house is so nice. There is a strong feel home sensation.

The garden, the view and the general environment is unique.

Inga the ownner is always available to answer our questions.

We stongly like !!!

A truly lovely, clean and relaxing holiday home.

A wonderful, ambient, very scandinavian retreat! The property was exactly as reflected in the description and photos. Brilliant. It was in a perfect location for visiting Reykjavik, Pingvellir and many places in the golden circle. We went horseriding, fell walking and sight seeing from this base. Everything was well maintained and the customer service and communication from the home owner was excellent. Thank you Inga! It made a wonderful holiday base. Would recommend.

Maybe our best holiday ever....

  • 5 of 5
We spent three weeks here end of august 2011 with our two sons, 9 and 12 years old. The cottage and its surrounding were fantastic, We had in 21 days 18 sensational, always different sunsets over the Snaefellsjökull glacier, which we could see while sitting in the cottage by a warm log fire, reading Halldor Laxness "Under the glacier". The location was fantastic for trips e.g. to the Glymur waterfall nearby ( 15 minutes by car, passing by a hot spring where You can sit in a natural hot tub... ). The walk to the waterfall was our first adventure in Iceland and was fantastic ! But from this cottage you can also visit the Blue Lagoon, Gullfoss, Geysir, Langjökull and Snaefellsness. Also the 10 minute walk from the cottage to the small Sandsfoss waterfall was a daily event. Swimming in a natural pool under the waterfall ! When we arrived in iceland, everybody told us, that the famous puffins were already gone... but we found them on the first days of september on the Westmaneyar Islands. Its was less then two hours by car to the new ferry terminal. So we could reach the Islands in the morning and return to the cottage in the evening. The trip was great, Our children could feed young puffins in the natural historic museum / aquarium on the Islands and see thousands of puffins on the cliffs and they were already coming close to the ferry when we arrived... Finally, we will surely come back to Iceland one day and this cottage is ideal to explore the whole south-west of Iceland while staying in a lovely place which is close to shops, museums, but also offers complete quietness.... Just sit on the terrace in the night and listen.... You will hear absolutely nothing....complete tranquillity.

Owner's Response: I am so pleased you had such a wonderful time in Iceland and that you found the cottage and the terrace as lovely and tranquil as we do ! I am ashamed to say that I have never been to the Westman islands (Vestmannaeyjar) but after reading this review I will go there this summer!
