My name is Inga Middleton. I am half Icelandic, half English. I grew up in Iceland but have lived in the UK on and off over the last 20 years.
Inga Middleton purchased this cottage in 2007
I chose to buy a cottage near Reykjavik so we could enjoy being in the stunning and peaceful Icelandic country side, but close enough to the capital to be able to see friends and family. The cottage is also very cozy and comfortable, and the view down the valley is spectacular; on a clear day the majestic Snaefellsnes glacier can be seen in the distance. This glacier has a special place in the hearts of the nation and it is very special to have such a good view of of it.
We love hiking in the mountains surrounding the cottage and fishing in the lake.It is also easy to get to all the major sights of southern Iceland and there are some fantastic swimming pools less than half and hour away. Watching the sunset from the terrace or from the rocking chair is very special, especially in the spring during lambing season (may) when the little lambs skip across the field below the cabin.
We travelled through beautiful landscapes to reach the Eyjafell cottage in glorious snow. The cottage was in a great location, surrounded by snow covered mountains. It was really cosy and spotlessly clean with everything we needed and of course the Woodburner which was fired up straight away. Great spot to get out and explore. Quite near a beautiful national park Thingvellir and then onto Geysir and Gullfoss. All well worth seeing. I would definitely recommend this property. You will need a good 4x4 if its in winter as the weather was pretty snowy. Great place!
We stayed in this cottage and enjoyed a very peaceful and comfortable base to explore from. The cottage and it's description are accurate, it is well cared for and clean, the amenities make cooking and recreation enjoyable. Outside of the cottage the scenery is inspiring, it is located in a pretty valley which overlooks a beautiful fjord. We made the journey along the South coast to the Glacier Lagoon with all sights in between quite easily from this location. The weather in late October was fine and the skies were clear enough to observe the Aurora Borealis on 3 occasions from the deck. I fully encourage staying at this cottage as it felt like a peace of home away from home.
Lovely cottage equipped with all the necessary's for a relaxed stay. the location of the cottage is perfect, the highlights of the west are reached within 1 1/2 hour drive.
We had a wonderful holiday in this cottage! It was our first trip to Iceland and it was fantastic. The cottage is so cozy and in our first night, we saw the Northern lights - that was really amazing. We had luck with the weather, as well, and mostly sunny weather. The cottage is also a very good starting point for several trips: Horse Riding Laxnes Farm, Golden Circle,... and we visited Reykjavik a few times. There we started to a whale watching tour and we tried several restaurants: We love the restaurant "Geysir" - very cozy and the lamb was fantastic.
The landscape around the cottage is very impressive and due to only a few neighbours, it is perfect to enjoy the silence and the panorama view. But it is necessary to have a rental car.
The cottage was clean and well equipped. It is perfect for 2 people, but we could imagine, that it is also really nice for up to 4 people.
Inga (the owner) answered to our questions (via email) immediately and it was always a very pleasant writing.
We would highly recommend this property!
When we have arrived in Iceland on 23rd december it was very cold, the roads were very icy and a strong wind was blowing a thin snow in all direction.
We had no problem to get our car rental at the airport. We did carefully follow the owner's road instruction and arrived safely at the cottage.
We did enjoy the place from the first minute we entered the house. It is small, nice and cosy. The kitchen is fully equiped. The atmosphere of the house is so nice. There is a strong feel home sensation.
The garden, the view and the general environment is unique.
Inga the ownner is always available to answer our questions.
We stongly like !!!

A wonderful, ambient, very scandinavian retreat! The property was exactly as reflected in the description and photos. Brilliant. It was in a perfect location for visiting Reykjavik, Pingvellir and many places in the golden circle. We went horseriding, fell walking and sight seeing from this base. Everything was well maintained and the customer service and communication from the home owner was excellent. Thank you Inga! It made a wonderful holiday base. Would recommend.
