Photos and Description of the Villeneuve-sur-Lot area vacation barn rental
Unique blend of home comforts with many included luxuries and services

Amidst plum orchards & sunflower fields just outside the 13th C bastide town of Ste Livrade-Sur-Lot, the designer owner has created a stylish luxury self-catering retreat equally perfect for couples, families + groups. This light and spacious converted stone barn with its 5m high ceilings, colour washed beams, and exposed stonework is tastefully decorated with country antiques & chandeliers.

Accommodating up to 13 people + cots in 3 private suites in the huge barn, allows groups to retain individual privacy & flexibility whilst holidaying together. All ground floor level, each suite has its own fully equiped kitchen/dining/lounge area and outside space. Guests have exclusive use heated 12 x 6m pool, games room + 8 acre gardens.

Included luxuries: champagne & flowers, superb welcome hamper, luxury toiletries, linens/towels/pool towels, bath robe & slippers, weekly cleaning. Extras on request: continental breakfast, driver, chef, office & shopping service. Discrete on site owner for all your needs

A little history about the property: La Maison de Maitre is a small elegant 18th Century country mansion, situated on a quite rural lane, in the hills above Sainte Livrade-sur-Lot, which overlooks the picturesque Cazeneuve valley. Apparently built by a local wealthy land owner. It's impressive collection of 17th century stone buildings arranged around a central garden including pigeonnier with bread oven, dove house, wine store, huge barn and even a few remnants of a little chapel 'Notre damme de Villamade' still visible in the front garden (more like a little hamlet!) all seem to support this theory.

Ancient historic pathways cross the valley beyond the grounds and provide pleasant country walks through corn, wheat and sunflower fields.

The Accomodation : The magnificent stone barn has been lovingly restored and transformed into a chic, spacious and luxurious retreat for groups of up to 10 people. The owners have placed great value on the barn's many original features, such as the exposed vanilla stone walls, impressive beam work, and the odd quirky little original window. Only natural products have been used with oak woodwork and limestone flooring throughout, and outside the property is surrounded by aromatic and exotic plants and flowers - a treat for all the senses!

Within the barn there are 3 separately accessed self-catering suites, affording a degree of privacy and flexibility whilst holidaying together. Each suite offers it's own bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen/dining and living accommodation. On top of this, the Lartigue Suite offers the space and facilities to entertain the whole group either inside in it's extensive dining area in front of the vast glazed former barn doors or outside under the huge covered verandah.

The Grounds: The property is set in almost 8 acres of landscaped gardens, park and fields which guests are welcome to explore, enjoy the swings + slide in the play area, play boules or simply to discover the many delightful shadey spots to sit, and maybe even have a home picnic! Guests are also encouraged to help themselves to the plentiful cherries, purple and golden figs, wild golden plums and walnuts found ripening throughout the year.

The extensive terraced patio area around the 12 x 6 m pool is flanked by cypress trees, fragrant lavender and rosemary flower beds and lawns. A second decked patio area also with sun loungers and umbrellas can be found just beyond the pool. Either here or around the pool guests can spend leisurely hours in the sun enjoying wonderful views across the picturesque valley or sipping a glass of something cool whilst watching a glorious sunset.

The best holiday we've had...

My husband and I stayed here with our eight month old daughter for a week in June/July 2010. Our only negative comment is that a week simply wasn't enough. Juliet was a wonderful host, not intrusive but incredibly helpful. The property is gorgeous and so well equipped for little ones. The pool area has loads of toys available with a cool barn area for rainy or super hot days. But the property would have been equally fabulous if we'd been on our own. We'd love to have another holiday there.

A Charming Gite with Beautiful Valley Views

5 of 5
Submitted: August 9, 2010 Stayed: July 2008
Juliet and Dean have made a perfect little peace of heaven in the Lot et Garonne region between Bordeaux and Toulouse and if you are lucky enough to find this gem you can be rest assured that all you will want to do as soon as you arrive is to switch off, unwind, soak up the sun, the views and forget about all the things you don't have to think about. Everything you need is there, and if it's not it is never too much trouble to organise it for you, within reason of course! It is immaculately presented, beautifully designed, fastidiously clean and always looks brand new. Their attention to detail is wonderful with regards to the design (think Provence, lavender, limestone, exposed beams, calming neutral tones) and in the practical things (kitchen stuff, dressing gowns & slippers). We have been twice now and will go again. The grounds are beautifully maintained and well established and there is great sense of space indoors and out. They have several trees that I am very jealous of; a fig, 3 x cherries and 2 x walnuts (depending when you go) Juliet's goats cheese and fig salad is the bees and her cherry pie - is to die for!!) The salt water pool is lovely to cool off in and I can still smell the occasional wafts of lavender as I lie on my sunbed. I have to admit we didn't do many trips, but there are lots of things to do. We can recommend the local farmers Tuesday evening market a couple of miles down the road (ask Juliet) and Marqueyssac in the Dordoyne (2 hour drive take a picnic to eat there or eat enroute) go on a Thursday evening and aim to arrive at 9pm to watch the sunset and to see it all lit up by thousands of candles - it closes at midnight. I went rowing at the local Villeneuve Rowing club and the others went canoeing on the wide gentle Lot River If you want to get to the beach then it isn't convenient its a good 2.5 hours. This place is about gentle rolling countryside with lovely local towns. There are lots of shops/market a short drive away with the huge supermarket just 5-10 mins drive. J&D are wonderful hosts and make you feel really welcome. We are incredibly fussy when looking for somewhere for our hols - we want a high standard of style, comfort and cleanliness at a reasonable price and La Maison d'Maitre ticks all our boxes.

Wonderful place to stay

5 of 5
Submitted: August 3, 2010 Stayed: June 2010
We had the most fantastic week staying at Vionnet with every possible need catered for. The immaculate and beautifully decorated cottage was so well equipped and had the luxury touches of a boutique hotel such as fluffy towels, bathrobes, champagne in the fridge not to mention a welcome pack of goodies including fresh cherries from the orchard. The boutique feel was continued at the swimming pool which was straight out of a posh travel magazine. As for entertainment, well the children had every toy they could wish for and us adults happily whiled away quite a few hours sipping wine in the beautiful grounds or enjoying amazing home cooked dinners served by Juliet. I would thoroughly reccommend Vionnet for any parent looking for a luxury child-friendly retreat or equally any couple looking for a romantic escape. We hope we will get a chance to return!

Gorgeous accommodation, friendly owners

We had an excellent stay at this beautiful villa last summer. The luxury accommodation and private pool have spectacular views of the surrounding countryside and are newly renovated and well maintained. The owners were friendly and helpful, and provided us with welcome drinks and snacks on the terrace upon our arrival.

We stayed here with two other couples, and would recommend this accommodation for couples and families with young children. Given the countryside location, own transport is advisable.
