Further details for this vacation villa rental in Villeneuve-sur-Lot area, France

A little history about the property: La Maison de Maitre is a small elegant 18th Century country mansion, situated on a quite rural lane, in the hills above Sainte Livrade-sur-Lot, which overlooks the picturesque Cazeneuve valley. Apparently built by a local wealthy land owner. It's impressive collection of 17th century stone buildings arranged around a central garden including pigeonnier with bread oven, dove house, wine store, huge barn and even a few remnants of a little chapel 'Notre damme de Villamade' still visible in the front garden (more like a little hamlet!) all seem to support this theory. Ancient historic pathways cross the valley beyond the grounds and provide pleasant country walks through corn, wheat and sunflower fields.

The Accomodation : The magnificent stone barn has been lovingly restored and transformed into a chic, spacious and luxurious retreat for groups of up to 10 people. The owners have placed great value on the barn's many original features, such as the exposed vanilla stone walls, impressive beam work, and the odd quirky little original window. Only natural products have been used with oak woodwork and limestone flooring throughout, and outside the property is surrounded by aromatic and exotic plants and flowers - a treat for all the senses! Within the barn there are 3 separately accessed self-catering suites, affording a degree of privacy and flexibility whilst holidaying together. Each suite offers it's own bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen/dining and living accommodation. On top of this, the Lartigue Suite offers the space and facilities to entertain the whole group either inside in it's extensive dining area in front of the vast glazed former barn doors or outside under the huge covered verandah.

The Grounds: The property is set in almost 8 acres of landscaped gardens, park and fields which guests are welcome to explore, play boules or simply to discover the many delightful shadey spots to sit, and maybe even have a home picnic! Guests are also encouraged to help themselves to the plentiful cherries, purple and golden figs, wild golden plums and walnuts found ripening throughout the year. The extensive terraced patio area around the 12 x 6 m pool is flanked by cypress trees, fragrant lavender and rosemary flower beds and lawns. A second decked patio area also with sun loungers and umbrellas can be found just beyond the pool. Either here or around the pool guests can spend leisurely hours in the sun enjoying wonderful views across the picturesque valley or sipping a glass of something cool whilst watching a glorious sunset.

Other Activities: antique fairs, weekly markets, canoeing, river boat trips, microlites, chateaux

Luxury Break in South-West France

WHM Hampshire, UK
Review Submitted: November 18, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
Having rented several properties in France we were truly impressed with the 5 star facilities. Fantastic welcome pack, immaculately presented accommodation and wonderful finishing touches including flowers, bathroom products and even a fantastic coffee machine! Juliet was friendly and helpful without being intrusive. We would recommend the property to others looking for a touch of luxury. Satellite UK television and a barbeque meant staying in was a fun option if the finances didn't run to eating out every night! Beware closure of restaurants etc on Sunday and Mondays in September. A good base for exploring the Lot et Garonne area - Cahor well worth a visit. Lovely to come back at the end of the day to the pool overlooking the valley to watch the sun go down!

Pure Relaxation

Barry & Katrina Belfast, Northern Ireland
Review Submitted: October 6, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
After trawling through SO many other mediocre properties, we chose this property after being immediately struck by it's beautiful location, tasteful decor and relaxing surroundings of the pool and gardens.

The property exceeded our already high expectations, due to the accurate and detailed information provided both on the holiday rentals website and the owners own site. The photographs were excellent, but these alone don't prepare you for the actual wonder of the Maison de Maitre. You have to go there yourself to experience the full extent of the hard work that Juliet and Dean have put into their property.

No area has been left unturned - the impeccible interior design has a very chic, yet welcoming feel to it; the grounds and views are breathtaking; and if you don't feel like cooking Juliet's breakfasts are a special treat, not to mention her 3 course dinners, which we enjoyed on the terrace by sunset.

The property was spotless and a mid week clean up was helpful. Juliet had thought of everything - probably even more so than a hotel would have provided! Bathrobes and slippers; L'Occitane bath and soap products; not to mention the lovely wicker welcome basket to keep us going for the first evening and some essentials for our stay.

This property is ideal for relaxing around the pool, going for a nice walk down to the sunflower fields, hiring a kayak
or bikes along by the river or visiting nearby vineyards. The hilltop town of Pujols is great during the summer gourmet evenings. Montflanquin was also nice, particularly on market days. We wouldn't say that there were massive amounts of adventurous things to do in the area and you certainly need a car to get around, but if you want a laid back time it is perfect.

Right from our intial enquiry Juliet, the owner, was more than helpful, giving us information on the surrounding area etc before we left home. She was always within reach is we needed her, without being intrusive and her approach of 'more than a self catering, with all of the touches of a hotel' worked really well.

We spent our first wedding anniversary here and had a great time. We've already recommended it to friends and family and wish anyone who visits here as great a time as we had.

PS Don't leave without a few pots of Juliet's homemade plum jam!!!

Picture Perfect

Review Submitted: September 1, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
La Maitre is a stunning property with the most beautiful views. We'd (husband, self and two young kids) had already enjoyed the beauty of Lake Annecy and Tuscany before our final week at the villa, so it had a lot to live up to. A second day of 8hrs in the car to get there, we were tired, moody and wondering what the hell we'd done, but Juliet couldn't have been more welcoming, the property was immaculate and stunning, as were the views from the fab pool. We aren't used to sharing, so it was again a relief to find our new neighbours for the week were really lovely company. It helped that Juliet arranged a get together with us all at the start of the week for drinks and nibbles, so we all became aquainted quickly. If you expect high qaulity, peace and quiet (my kids were the noisiest) and stunning views, this place truly delivers.

Exceptional in every way

Amber B Brighton, UK
Review Submitted: August 28, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We had simply the most relaxing holiday in everyway.
The description of this property and accomodation is very accurate but to be honest it was such an amzing place it really went above and beyond all our expectations. This place is perfect in everyway and we instantly relaxed in the environment and the accomodation its self which is a higher standard that most 5 * hotels I have ever stayed in. The customer service and attention to detail was nothing I have experienced before and the value for money unquestionable. There is every thing you need here all high standard and new including robes, fresh smelling towels and fresh flowers. What is on offer here as well as the owner who is discreet but helpful in everyway is supererb in everyway and we are already planning to book for next year. The perfect setting for families, honeymoons, family occassions or even a wedding. Views stunning, properties top specification and perfect place for total relaxation.
Juliet and Deane have created something very special and genuinely have given you all the tools to think about nothing apart from when to dip in the pool.
Thank you for a lovely holiday.
Would reccomend this jem to anyone with good taste

Holidaying With The Australians!

neatfreak Lichfield
Review Submitted: August 25, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
Well, we are the other family who joined the Australians on their trip to France and couldn't agree more with their review.

La Maison de Maitre is as good as it looks online - infact the photos don't really do it justice. Conveniently situated just an hour's drive from Bergerac airport, the accommodation is stunning. All the suites are very tastefully done and the attention to detail is second to none.

The owners live onsite but are incredibly discreet; however, they are around to give tips and advice if needed.

The setting is absolutely incredible: there are panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and the views from the decking are amazing -don't miss out on the beautiful sunsets!

We were the first people to stay with children (aged 4 and 6) and they had a ball. The owners provided some pool toys and table football to keep them busy - when they weren't splashing in the pool or going lizard-hunting of course!

The beauty of La Maison de Maitre is that you can holiday with friends or family whilst maintaining a bit of space for yourselves - we found this to be a great set-up, especially with young children. We had the whole place to ourselves and again, this really made all the difference.

Best holiday memory? Lying on a lilo in the middle of the pool, looking up at the cloudless, blue sky, listening to the bees buzzing in the lavender and the water lapping against the side of the pool...heaven!
