Villeneuve-sur-Lot area Barn Rental Photos and Description

Unique blend of home comforts with many included luxuries and services

Amidst plum orchards & sunflower fields just outside the 13th C bastide town of Ste Livrade-Sur-Lot, the designer owner has created a stylish luxury self-catering retreat equally perfect for couples, families + groups. This light and spacious converted stone barn with its 5m high ceilings, colour washed beams, and exposed stonework is tastefully decorated with country antiques & chandeliers.

Accommodating up to 13 people + cots in 3 private suites in the huge barn, allows groups to retain individual privacy & flexibility whilst holidaying together. All ground floor level, each suite has its own fully equipped kitchen/dining/lounge area and outside space. Guests have exclusive use heated 12 x 6m pool, games room + 8 acre gardens.

Included luxuries: champagne & flowers, superb welcome hamper, luxury toiletries, linens/towels/pool towels, bath robe & slippers, weekly cleaning. Extras on request: continental breakfast, driver, chef, office & shopping service. Discrete on site owner for all your needs

A little history about the property: La Maison de Maitre is a small elegant 18th Century country mansion, situated on a quite rural lane, in the hills above Sainte Livrade-sur-Lot, which overlooks the picturesque Cazeneuve valley. Apparently built by a local wealthy land owner. It's impressive collection of 17th century stone buildings arranged around a central garden including pigeonnier with bread oven, dove house, wine store, huge barn and even a few remnants of a little chapel 'Notre Dame de Villamade' still visible in the front garden (more like a little hamlet!) all seem to support this theory.

Ancient historic pathways cross the valley beyond the grounds and provide pleasant country walks through corn, wheat and sunflower fields.

The Accomodation : The magnificent stone barn has been lovingly restored and transformed into a chic, spacious and luxurious retreat for groups of up to 10 people. The owners have placed great value on the barn's many original features, such as the exposed vanilla stone walls, impressive beam work, and the odd quirky little original window. Only natural products have been used with oak woodwork and limestone flooring throughout, and outside the property is surrounded by aromatic and exotic plants and flowers - a treat for all the senses!

Within the barn there are 3 separately accessed self-catering suites, affording a degree of privacy and flexibility whilst holidaying together. Each suite offers it's own bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen/dining and living accommodation. On top of this, the Vionnet Suite offers the space and facilities to entertain the whole group inside and the Lartigue suite offers the same opportunity al fresco with it's extensive dining area in front of the vast glazed former barn doors outside under the huge covered verandah.

The Grounds: The property is set in almost 8 acres of landscaped gardens, park and fields which guests are welcome to explore, enjoy the swings + slide in the play area, play boules or simply to discover the many delightful shady spots to sit, and maybe even have a home picnic! Guests are also encouraged to help themselves to the plentiful cherries, purple and golden figs, wild golden plums and walnuts found ripening throughout the year.

The extensive terraced patio area around the heated 12 x 6 m pool is flanked by cypress trees, fragrant lavender and rosemary flower beds and lawns. A second decked patio area also with sun loungers and umbrellas can be found just beyond the pool. Either here or around the pool guests can spend leisurely hours in the sun enjoying wonderful views across the picturesque valley or sipping a glass of something cool whilst watching a glorious sunset.

Stunning holiday let

A fantastic holiday in a beautiful peaceful setting. The renovated barns are immaculate and classy with everything you could need, incl equipment for children (prams, baby baths, bottles, cutlery etc). We hired all three barns for our family of 8 adults and 3 young kids aged 2, 3 and 6. We loved all being together yet having our own space. Everything is provided and good quality; bed linens, towels, pool towels all provided, with a mid-week change.

The owners are very friendly, and available on site. Their cooking it is fantastic! It was great to know they were on hand if you need anything. They were discreet and non-invasive.

The pool is fantastic – 12m, bigger than normal holiday villas, and a nice temperature (although some of us weedier ones thought that one or two degrees warmer would be good) – the safety cover is fast to close and very secure so you know the children are safe. Dean will kindly help you open/close it. There is a fab games room in the 'cave' by the pool, with boule & darts for adults and lots of games and toys including pool toys, for the kids. DVDs and games in the accommodation, and a big children's playground onsite, and a safe pond with frogs. Everything has been thought of here! It was so well thought out in every aspect, the children all had a ball.

The local area is ‘upmarket rural’ - tidier than other areas like Provence. It has many sunflower fields so is worth an explore in mid-summer - but I can recommend just settling in at La Maison de Maitre with a good book, wine (you might be able to buy some from Dean and Juliet with notice) some bread and cheese (or Dean and Juliet’s fantastic catering) and bed in by the pool!

It is very hard to find any criticisms! Suggestions would be 1) would like a king sized bed in every room - a small point and the double beds are very comfortable so we slept really well. 2) communal dining - the outdoor table is great but an indoor dining option that would seat all three units would be brilliant. Perhaps removing the dresser or rearranging things to allow more space around the big table in Lartigue. 3) the deck would benefit from a small coffee table to encourage you to use it more for aperitifs. 4) A floorplan on the website would be really helpful so you could plan who sleeps where in advance. These are tiny points in an otherwise perfect holiday venue!

Would definitely go back as it's very hard to find accommodation of this quality to fit a big group.
Owner's Response: Great to hear good feedback and that our accomodation and heated pool with temperatures of 27-30 degrees was up to the mark! We always like to respond to any suggestions and are in the process of upgrading another of our double beds to a king size for next year, which means we will have a king sized bed in every suite. The remaining doubles are larger than average and have Sealy posturepaedic mattresses for ensured comfort.
We are also planning to put a table on the decked sun terrace too!
Love to see you again guys!

Perfect! Once again, we had a lovely time at La Maison de Maitre. This is a great holiday for those with small children. You cannot help but relax in the tranquil surroundings framed by sunflowers as far as the eye can see. Juliet and Deane are the perfect hosts, and a wealth of baby and toddler gear provided, including a playground, make this holiday easy for parents. The heated pool is fantastic and the proximity to the suites means there's no need to use a push chair or move the car anywhere. Our daughter was amused for hours by the sharks, crocodiles, killer whales and crabs floating in the pool. The pool is big enough for adults to have a proper swim, it is kept immaculately clean and as there are only 3 suites, it never feels crowded. After a splash in the paddling pool, toddlers can say hello to the frogs in the pond before having a relaxing lunch in a cool kitchen watching cbeebies! We have always had excellent weather here. Last time we stayed for a week, this time for two weeks- we will hopefully do three next year!

Idealic family retreat

Lartigue was the most beautiful property we have stayed in during our many years of visiting France. It's spacious enough for a young family of four and catered for all our needs including everything needed for a 4 month old baby. The grounds of the property were immaculate and the pool was fantastic, the owners have thought of everything needed to entertain children, including lots of pool toys, outside play area, and even a covered area for rainy days. We were fortunate enough to have fantastic weather and although in the high 30's we were all comfortable in the villa as it stayed cool. the owners themselves were very discreet but available if you needed them, (a very friendly couple) and cooked the most fabulous evening meals which we enjoyed on our patio.
The property was very clean, fresh and lovingly maintained.
There was plenty to do in the surrounding areas and very informative information packs were provided in the property.
We would highly recommend this property and may very well be booking for next year as it really is a home from home (but with better weather!) .
Owner's Response: So pleased that we were able to provide a great holiday to such a nice family.
Also to note for 2013 we have reduced some of our prices by up to 20%!!!!!

Beautiful and Relaxing

A wonderful place. The views are stunning and the grounds are beautifully maintained making it a very scenic place. This was our first holiday with our 11 month old daughter so we wanted somewhere that provided all the necessary equipment for infants. The accomodation is very well equipt for this and the pool house has a vast selection of games and toys to keep all the little ones engaged.

Juliet was a wonderful host and a great cook. Looking forward to going back in the future with friends and hopefully our second child.
Owner's Response: We try to provide as much baby/child equipment as possible for parents of little ones because we understand how limiting it is these days for parents with restricted baggage allowances on flights.
The abundance of toys, games + dvds together with the essential ceebeebies all helps to keep the little ones entertained. A happy child means happy parents!
The evening meal service we provide also allows parents can enjoy a 'night out' without leaving the site, relaxed in the knowledge thier children are safe + sound sleeping next door.
We are so pleased to have given this lovely little family a nice relaxing time and hope to see them back again very soon.

Wedding of the century at La Maison de Maitre

Every little girl dreams of her perfect wedding day… what I didn’t realise, is that in booking La Maison de Maitre, my expectations would be supremely surpassed.
The day I was due to visit the house for the first time, I was absolutely terrified. I work in PR, so I know the art of clever photography and pretty words! BUT one thing I will say, is that the photographs on the website do not do this venue justice. It really is truly stunning and has a way of melting away your worries.

Juliet and Deane helped us find a fantastic and helpful coordinator. Kim was informed, calm, direct and truthful, characteristics that I found helpful in my more indecisive moments!

I don’t think we could rate this venue on a scale of 1-10… it’s a different level. Thank you so much for allowing us to enjoy a relaxing holiday with you and for being the perfect setting for our wedding.

We are desperate to go back soon.

Comments from the wedding day were “The venue and view are so amazing you could have served bread and water and it would have been stunning” and “If I could do my wedding again, I’d do this!”…. what more could we ask for!

N.b. You definitely need a car
Visit Villa S’Merelda in Pujol for lunch or dinner (like a secret garden)
Castelmoron-sur-Lot has a lovely little beach by the river
Owner's Response: We are so pleased to have been part of such a special day for this beautiful couple and wish them all the love and luck for the future. Juliet & Deane Feb 12
