Overview

Greensboro Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

This beautiful property is located on the quietest side of Caspian Lake, on eight acres, up a hill. You can see the sunrise across the lake and walk a short distance to our private dock. Fifty years ago, my grandparents moved and restored an old farm house. Ten years later my mother found an abandoned 1806 school house, moved and restored it also. The school house was again completely updated in 2006. Because of its charm and history (original school chairs, original artwork and antique furniture) renters have returned year after year. The peaceful quiet has been especially appreciated as a retreat for writers, photographers and artists.

The school house includes a new kitchen, new paint inside and out, entirely new upstairs, new furniture, and new interior design throughout. The dock has been expanded and redone and a large raft added. We live in the farm house which is separated from the school house by a fence, two fields and huge pine trees for privacy.

The school house has 2 queen beds, a double and two singles, an outdoor cedar shower, fields, a view and woods behind the house. In addition to below amenities, we have internet access, DVD player, bread maker and more, a tuned piano, games, canoe, small sailboat, lovely flower gardens and a veggy garden to share.

This is a particularly beautiful area for fall foliage and central to magnificent drives in all directions.

Though we love pets, due to severe family allergies, we maintain a no pet policy. Sorry.

Apparently the pictures make the School house look smaller than it is, so here are dimensions: LR 18'x 25', KIT 12' x 9', MBR 10' x 17', BR2 18' x 15', BR3 11' x 13', DECK 9' x 26'

FOR TONS MORE PHOTOS GO TO FACEBOOK AND SEARCH FOR: SWEETPEASUITES

WE HAVE OPENINGS IN SEPTEMBER AND OCTOBER FOR LEAF PEEPING SEASON WHEN THE LEAVES CHANGE AND THE COLORS ARE MAGNIFICENT!! WE ALSO HAVE A LARGE HEATER SO THE PLACE IS WARM AND COZY!!

About The Owner

We moved to VT when I inherited the farm house. We are semi-retired (aside from maple sugaring, ice cream making, our rental, gardening, putting up organic veggies and jams...etc) with three adult children (one not pictured above) who have assorted lovely partners who visit occasionally to relax or help us out or work (writers in the family). My mother loved flowers as do I and the flower gardens have grown and grown..over 5000 sq. ft.!

The Owner purchased this cottage in 2004

Why The Owner chose Greensboro

This property has been in my family for four generations. My grandfather grew up in Montpelier, VT before moving to NYC to practice Law. Since then someone in the family has always retired to Vermont to live in the farm house. My mother moved the school house to our second field in 1958 and when my husband and I took over in 2004 we completely renovated the school house and began renting it. Our family has always had a love affair with The Northeast Kingdom and in particular, with Greensboro, VT. Caspian Lake is one of the cleanest lakes in the country!!

What makes this cottage unique

This is a unique and completely beautiful location. It is remote and very quiet yet is within driving distance of Stowe and many other interesting locations. Greensboro itself is an adorably quaint Vermont town that has retained its historical uniqueness while providing high quality music, theater, artisans, food, and organic shopping to its summer visitors. Lake Caspian is a pristine lake, well cared for by its community and as a result is extremely clean and beautiful.

I am looking forward to my next visit to the Schoolhouse. I have rented several houses in Greensboro over a span of eight years, but my family and I felt the Schoolhouse offered the perfect combination of charm and convenience. The setting -- a surround of gardens with a view over fields and trees to a glimpse of Late Caspian -- is delightful. The hosts are cordial and quick to offer help and advice if needed. The Schoolhouse itself has all the equipment we wanted. plus books, games, TV and a piano. It has been decorated in restful blue and white -- punctuated with unique framed illustrations and other works of art -- by an owner who is a gifted in interior design. Yet, it is perfectly comfortable for children and adults to relax and feel at home. Adding greatly to our pleasure was the dock and float on the late, where everyone could enjoy swimming and sunning and canoes. We also benefitted from the excellent book of information about the property, Greensboro. local walks and amenities, and daytrips.

You will not be disappointed

  • 5 of 5
We cannot imagine anyone being disappointed with their stay at this gem! The owners clearly take great pride in the property and have meticulously decorated and furnished it to make it an extremely cozy "home away from home." It is much roomier than we anticipated and has everything anyone could possibly desire, and if it didn't I am certain the owners would want to hear about it! While the schoolhouse is on the same property as the owner's home (by the way, they are super people) it is far enough from their home to afford the visitor with more than ample privacy, again that came as a surprise to us. If you are looking to enjoy some peace and quiet, in a beautiful location, this is it! We were so pleased with our stay and hope to go back again some day soon and we have no doubt we will choose to stay in the very same impressively restored school house! Enjoy!

Schoolhouse a Superb Summer Vacation Choice

  • 5 of 5
Accurate description and photos; clean and well-maintained; helpful owners.

This is what we would prefer to tell you:

Start your day on the back deck with the morning marigolds and sunlight filtering softly through the ferny forest.
Follow the call of the loon down the flowery meadow paths to the crystalline, cool of Caspian’s green waters.
Sun on the dock.
Catch crayfish and minnows.
Swim to the raft.
Canoe or sail.

Sharing its stories subtly, the Schoolhouse reveals traces of ancient desks that were once affixed to the step-smoothed maple floors. The handwrought hook that locks the front door and the iron holders for the board that once barred it are still in place. There is more recent history in the collection of books and games for all generations and in the music for amateurs to play on the upright piano – well-loved and tuned.

Furnished with sturdy antiques assembled by an elegant eye, the gathering room and bedrooms bespeak comfort and warmth. Views of forest, meadow, mountain and lake abound through tall school room windows that admit both sun and moon light to the main floor. The preferred place to shower is outdoors, with a leafy canopy overhead and a bounty of hot and cold water.

This wonderful place for families easily accommodates six people or more. The spacious Schoolhouse fields provide space for whiffle ball, badminton, scavenger hunts while the sandbox intrigues the younger set. The ten-minute stroll to the lake is a distinct safety feature for younger families.

The cordial owners, nearby in their charming Vermont farmhouse, are founts of local lore and ready to help, if needed. Although their dwelling is within sight of the Schoolhouse, privacy rules.

It is but 3 miles to the Willeys’ general store with its national and local newspapers, a wide variety of food, meats, clothing, household goods, hardware and gas for the car.

Renters are encouraged to pick the lovely flowers and tasty fruits and vegetables from the property’s multiple gardens. Summer visits to pick-your-own berry patches provide scenic excursions. Farmers markets, Circus Smirkus, outdoor concerts, fairs, farm visits and jaunts to Stowe, Montpelier and Barre’s granite quarries are within easy reach.

After more than five return visits to the Schoolhouse, shared with friends and many generations of family, we sum up our experience as a refreshing, relaxing, peaceful country refuge from cell phones, malls, traffic and the crazy tempo of today’s world.

Stunningly Beautiful and Peaceful Spot

  • 5 of 5
Could not have asked for a better time. This location is very beautiful, quiet, and relaxing. It's exceptionally clean and the owners were very helpful in meeting our needs. In the fall, the leaves change and the rental house stays very warm.

Heaven on Earth. I'd definitely recommend staying here!

Exquisite Cottage Offers Lovely Retreat

  • 5 of 5
My husband, our two-year old son, our best friends and their two-year old daughter stayed here last month and had an absolutely exceptional stay. First of all, the cottage has been beautifully restored with amenities that are up-to-date and comfortable for even the most high maintenance guests (for example, toddlers).

However, what was so magnificent about this place was that throughout the restoration, the owners have managed to preserve the classic feel and unique character of the original building. Sitting on the sofa by the front windows, looking out over the grand lawn to the lake beyond, one experiences a true aesthetic pleasure simply not available in other accommodations.

Finally, the owners Sally and Tony are the perfect hosts. They live in the farm house on the other half of the hill so while guests enjoy the absolute privacy of their own house, Sally and Tony are right there if anything is needed. For example, when our plane arrived late and we didn't get to the cottage until about 2a.m., Tony came right up to make sure we were comfortably settled and had everything that we needed.

In every aspect, our time at the school house was exquisite and the most relaxing week the four of us parents had enjoyed in a log, long time.
