During the hottest period (July and August) when temperatures can rise to over 30 degrees at the hottest time of day, the heat of the sun is tempered by refreshing Atlantic breezes. The evenings are pleasantly warm and you can comfortably dine outside in the villages or on your own terrace. Autumn is usually pleasantly warm and Winter stays bright and sunny but you can expect intermittent rain between November and April.

Golfing: For golfers the Algarve is a paradise, with some of the best courses in Europe. There is also plenty of opportunity for tennis, riding, sailing, watersports and deep sea fishing. Whether you come to the Algarve for an active holiday or simply to rest, you will enjoy eating out in the towns and villages where all tastes are catered for and the local fish is a speciality.

Eating Out: There is now a wide selection of restaurants offering excellent value with both local and international specialities. Freshly caught sardines grilled over charcoal is a traditional favourite or for the more adventurous, try a Cataplana - pork and clam stew. Alternatively, take a trip out to one of the colourful fish markets and barbecue a red sea bass on the terrace of your villa followed by fresh figs or almond cake, washed down with a bottle of the excellent Lagoa red wine or the more refreshing Vinho Verde. The village of Porches has three of the best restaurants on the Algarve situated in the back streets and alleyways of a typical Portuguese village.
