Travel Information - Wengen is easily and conveniently reached by rail from all of the main swiss airports. Connections are easy and trains run efficiently providing a relaxing way to travel to the Jungfrau region. Approx travelling times to Interlaken include - Bern airport (1 1/2 hours), Zurich airport (2 1/2 hours), Geneva airport (3 hours). Interlaken to Wengen, via Lauterbrunnen takes approx 45 mins. The last stretch of the journey from Lauterbrunnen is by cogwheel railway which trundles up the valley side to Wengen, then onwards across high pastures to reach Kleine Scheidegg and continues by tunnel through the Eiger to reach the Jungfraujoch; europe's highest train station at 3454m. The journey from Interlaken through the Lauterbrunnen valley and up to Wengen is one of the most breathtaking and dramatic train journeys in Switzerland.

Attractions nearby include Murren and the Schilthorn; the picturesque village of Grindelwald and the imposing Eiger; Lauterbrunnen and its dramatic waterfalls; the bustling town of Interlaken and beyond the emerald lakes of Brienzersee and Thunersee where lake streamers provide a day out to the far reaches of the lakes, including the characterful village of Iseltwald and the town of Thun. Within easy travelling distance of Interlaken is the village of Meiringen (of Sherlock Holmes fame) and the Ballenburg museum. Other attractions include a scenic day trip on the goldenpass express train to Montreux via Gstaad or visiting the historic city of Berne with its many clock towers and array of shops and boutiques under covered arcades. Train, boat and postal bus provide excellent public transport and english is widely spoken in the region, making public transport easy and enjoyable.

In summer, activities include swimming, tennis, walking, mountain biking, paragliding, ice climbing, mini golf, mountaineering and folklore/cultural events.
In winter, activities include skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, ice hockey, curling, nordic walking, mountain climbing and sledging. The village is host to the famous Lauberhorn world cup downhill and slalom races in January each year.
Ski:
Wengen is ideally placed to provide easy access to the Jungfrau ski region which provides skiing and snowboarding for all levels and consists of 3 main areas - (1) Kleine Scheidegg - Mannlichen which is accessed by either cable car or train from Wengen with a number of black, red and blue runs back to the village as well long runs down to Grindelwald; (2) Grindelwald - First area, located above Grindelwald providing long blue and red runs; and (3) Murren - Schilthorn which provides some spectacular scenic skiing. Beginners are well served by the nursery slopes in Wengen and experts and thrill seekers can try out the black runs from the Lauberhorn down to Wengen following the course of the famous world cup downhill and slalom races.
