I am an painter and sculptor. My first love is of the mountains and open spaces and gardens and deserts and beaches and wild animals and wild lands. So I don't really know how I would define myself for you.
JENNIFER MORGAN purchased this cottage in 1974
In late 1973 I came back to San Francisco. I loved the city but my problem had always been that I wanted to live in the country as well. I drove and walked all through the Glen Park neighborhood in San Francisco looking for a 'place' that would fit me. I didn't know if I wanted to rent or buy. Then I came across this dilapidated house on the hill. It was falling down the hill. The house sat in the middle of three barren empty lots. I fell in love. Behind the house was a cottage.
The house and the cottage are surrounded by light and air. Everything in San Francisco and the surrounding communities is easily accessible from here. Most of all it has a feeling of privacy and seclusion; while still being so close to everything.
The cottage is a beautiful hideaway in SF, very comfortable and bright. We had a wonderful time, and would definitely return.
I have traveled to many places in my life and have been to San Francisco a number of times in the past six years, but I have NEVER expierienced an ambience so perfect that one has to experience it to believe it. No matter what I say, it will not do this wonderful property justice. I will try. The smell of the flowers and trees, the beautiful natural light, attention to detail, beautiful wood work, Asian art, a beautiful kitchen with appliances and flatware, silverware, and glassware that are beautiful as much as they are functional, a comfortable bed, a beautiful ceramic tiled bathroom all create a very special environment. I dare to say that had it rained my entire stay, I would have been content to stay in the cottage and enjoy a property that the owner obviously holds dear.
The property was clean, the amenities were beyond what one would find in a four or five star hotel, and all claims by the owner in the listing were accurate and truthful. The pictures accurately portrayed the layout and beauty of the cottage.
I must say, I was as surprised to find that Glen Park itself is a wonderful neighborhood to stay and I found a number of excellent eating options although I must admit, I did cook one meal in the cottage due to the fact that there is a wonderful market on Chemery Street. For those who like it, I found the French Restaurant an excellent choice. The Thai restaurant was also a great place to enjoy other ethnic cuisine.
The cottage is conveninent to buses that take you main muni stations and of course one has the option of using BART which I took from the airport for a mere $8.00. Traveling to downtown using the BART will cost between $1.70 and $2.00 depending upon the specific stop. And yes, it IS minutes from downtown.
I hope to stay at the cottage again this fall.
Thank you Veronica and Johannes. I will be sure to come again if your cottage is available.
The cottage is our favorite place to stay in San Francisco. The only drawback is - due to the new laws in San Francisco - we will no longer be able to stay for here less than a month. However, when we can stay for a month we will stay at the cottage!
My wife and I spent 9 days in this wonderful space. We are frequent visitors to San Francisco and have stayed in VRBO rentals in many neighborhoods throughout the city. Glen Park is our new favorite. It is quiet and the proximity to BART and Muni transit makes it easy to be in other areas of the city in minutes. We loved the cottage and enjoyed every moment of our stay. Johannes greeted us on arrival and was very warm and welcoming. We had and slight plumbing issue that was addressed IMMEDIATELY. I read a concern about the dog in an earlier review, we found Alice to be completely a non-issue with incredibly soft ears. The cottage is so comfortable and cozy we could stay for months. It is however, a studio not a one bedroom, so if you want a separate sleeping space look elsewhere. I suppose an added DVD player and some videos and perhaps a small reading library would've been a welcomed, but really marvelous the way it is. The Canyon Market is fabulous. The neighborhood feels completely safe at night and hiking up the hill is wonderfully invigorating. 5 stars all the way! Hopefully stay here on our next visit to the City.
My husband and I called it "The Enchanted Cottage" and could have stayed there the four days without ever going into downtown SF! It was such a pleasant surprise. Also, we used the transit system and had no problems at all. The bus picked us up on the corner. It couldn't have been more convenient. (Two buses are necessary to get to the cottage from downtown, the F and the 35.)
My boyfriend and I stayed here in April. The photos are exactly how it looks. The property was beautiful, clean, and the hosts were very accommodating. We spent all day sightseeing and had this wonderful oasis to return to in the evening.
Thank you Johannes and Veronica.
I really enjoyed my stay at this property! I stayed for the first 3 weeks of June, 2014. Johannes was a wonderful host as he offered me advice on how to best spend my time. The property was everything it appeared to be. Only down side is that you don't want to walk up the hill more than once or twice a day. Public transportation was great and you really don't need a car. If you have no problem with a little uphill walk, this would be a great place to use as your base to see San Francisco. I just loved it!! Thank you Johannes!!
The cottage is located in the Glen Park neighborhood in San Francisco usually referred to as Glen Park Village, because of it's old European flavor.
The Village of Glen Park is nestled in the surrounding hills. In the village you will find coffee shops, some of the best restaurants in San Francisco, hardware store, cleaners, grocery store, book store, vintage store, bakery, pretty much anything you need is two blocks away from the cottage; down in the village.
Glen Park is also a great walking neighborhood. If you follow the main street of Glen Park to it's end you will come upon Glen Canyon Park. A wonderful walking park with a meandering stream and native plants. Trails that can lead you all the way up to the Diamond Heights Safeway and beyond. Then continue back to the cottage in a very scenic loop down Beacon street and through the open areas of the Diamond Heights neighborhood and the Noe Valley neighborhood overlooking downtown San Francisco. Or, for the hikers, you can go in the opposite direction around Twin Peaks and then down and back to the cottage.
San Francisco is divided into neighborhoods. Glen Park is one of the oldest neighborhoods. If you look on a map of San Francisco and put your finger on the very middle of it, you would have pointed out Glen Park.
Consequently the cottage is close to everything. It makes driving unnecessary. The Glen Park BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit - the underground)Station is a short three blocks from the cottage. Which makes downtown or the financial district just ten minutes away. Berkeley and the East Bay easily easily reachable without having to drive. Fisherman's Wharf and other San Francisco attractions just a few minutes away by BART or MUNI (bus).
If you are looking for a Sunday drive to Half Moon Bay or lunch at Barbara's Crab Shack in Princeton By The Bay. You can hop on the freeway, just three blocks from the cottage which gives you access to the coast in less than fifteen minutes.
If you are looking for high end comfort and ease of access to anything or anywhere in San Francisco this is your place.
