When my wife and I decided to go back to Oahu, there was no question as to where we would stay. In fact, I checked with the owners first to confirm what dates the cottage was available so as to book our trip around that timeframe.
This cottage is PERFECT for couples. The owners live right next store so if you need anything, they are available but you never see them otherwise. They are wonderful to work with but they completely respect your privacy.
The cottage itself is quite new and has everything you need. The view is to die for. Neither last year's visit nor this year's visit necessitated the use of the a/c though there is one. The cool breezes do the trick, especially since you are on a hill.

You are a 5 minute drive from shopping, restaurants, etc and a 20 minute drive from downtown Honolulu.

This place is perfect and the owners pay attention to every last detail, we'll be back a 3rd time.

Amazing views, nice hideaway, relaxing time, hammock!!

Firstly I want to say my review is a little overdue but very much deserved; it was very easy to work with Mike & Kendra. With long working hours and emails at off hours Mike was able to answer back quickly and take my calls. When we arrived for our 5 night stay we arrived at the cottage, and up the steps, we were wow'd by the amazing views and our own little escape. With family on the island the location was close enough to be 15-20 mins from town/waikiki, but far enough from the hustle. The cottage is just a good 10-15 minutes away from snorkeling at Hanauma Bay and Koko Head hike. Local shopping, markets, and coffee shops very close by made it convenient. The cottage itself had all the amenities you will need and more. The outdoor deck makes for a great relaxing time with views, hot tub, outside TV and seating, and a hammock! Property has laundry and BBQ grill.
Although we did not get to spend as much time as we would have liked at the cottage it was a great place for us to turn in for the night and spend mornings on the deck. And even bigger plus is the ease of working with our hosts! Thank you!

This is, hands down, the best vacation experience we've had in recent memory. This hidden gem just outside bustling downtown Wikiki and Honolulu provided the perfect retreat oasis to bookend our 10-day vacation. Traveling with kids ages 14 and 5, this cottage is perfect. It was great for early morning soaks in the hot tub while kids joined in or played in the yard, and evening dinners on the bbq with friends who couldn't help but rave about the location, view and amenities. It was a hit with us and local guests. Our hosts were, well, fabulous and kind! We were greeted kindly with a little perk (won't spoil any surprises for new guests). Shopping was easy, breezy with Safeway, Costco and Komo Marina just 5 minutes drive away. Everything you needed to live well is right at your fingertips: linen, dishwear, cooking utensils, laundry facilities, and the outdoor TV was a big plus with hubby who tuned in to NBA play-offs, while the kids and I cuddled to Disney flicks. And, being from Seattle it was nice to have recylcing options too! I this place is a must see, must stay - you will not be disappointed. God willing, we'll be back again very soon. PS: the 44 steps from the private parking to the cottage is workout, so wear flats!

Amazing rental, stunning location, wonderful hosts.

This well-appointed, quiet and absolutely stunning cottage provided the perfect place to relax and enjoy the splendor of Hawaii. My grandmother and I stayed at the cottage for one month and did not want to leave. James and his family were wonderful, attentive hosts and made us feel at home. The cottage was immaculately clean, incredibly beautiful, and well-stocked with all the essentials, plus many luxuries, like the jacuzzi (amazing!). Given the gorgeous views, we stayed in for dinner most nights and found the kitchen met all of our cooking needs. And the location is amazing- the cottage is nestled against the back of an astonishing mountain range. The only sounds we ever heard were the birds or the trade winds. Hawaii Kai was the perfect place for us- just far enough away from the commotion of Honolulu to feel removed and yet close enough to have ready access to restaurants and shopping. We were within minutes of great hiking and some of the island's most breathtaking beaches. Overall, the cottage was an amazing place to be- the pictures do not adequately capture the splendor of this place. We definitely hope to return next year.

Exactly as advertised!!

My wife and I have been coming to the islands for years and always use VRBO. When we arrive, we always hope that the property is truly as described in the write-up. This property is 110% as stated in the narrative above. And even the photos do not do it justice. First, the Murray family, who live just below the cottage, is extremely quiet. You never even know they are there. The ONLY sounds you hear are the beautiful birds and the gentle breezes. (and for those of you who know the islands, no squawking roosters!!) Second, , the cottage is PERFECT. Everything is new. Very comfortable bed. Washer and dryer work great. Even though there is a/c, we did not have to use it since the breezes kept it cool (you're at a decent elevation here). And I can't say enough about the Murray's...very hospitable and they treat you like family, not a tenant. We will be back.

Recommended for: Age 55+, Romantic Getaway
