Belmont Cottage is a beautifully restored and appointed 19th century cottage, perched high on a hillside with spectacular views of the Harbour and Cupid’s Cay. During the recent restoration, the original historic architecture was lovingly preserved while accommodating the needs of modern luxury living, including state-of-the-art fixtures and electronics.

Belmont Cottage consists of a master bedroom with king-size bed, a modern luxurious en-suite bathroom with extra large shower, and a living area equipped with a mini-bar and furnished with antiques. Amenities include refrigerator, microwave, flat screen TV, air conditioning, ceiling fan, and wireless internet. There is also a separate outdoor patio with a spectacular sea view.

Belmont Cottage is part of the Squires Estate collection of beautifully restored 19th century homes on the hill above Governors Harbour, furnished with antiques from around the world. The décor and level of finish will delight the most discrimminating world traveler. Our manager will greet you upon arrival and be available to assist you as needed. She can arrange for daily housekeeping, a private chef, or a car rental (extra charges apply), and provide advice about island activities. Other staff at Squires Estate include a fulltime gardener and housekeepers. Laundry and ironing services are provided on the premises at no charge. Belmont Cottage can be combined with other historic homes and cottages in the Squires Estate collection for larger groups.

The town of Governors Harbour, a three-minute walk down the hill, has a charming collection of 19th century homes and churches overlooking its historic harbor. Buy fresh fish and lobster every afternoon from fisherman at the town dock, or visit the recently restored Haynes Library, which dates from 1897, for the weekly coffee hour for foreign residents and tourists. . Governors Harbour has grocery stores, restaurants, liquor stores, two banks with ATMs, a bakery, gift shops, and a medical clinic. Friday Night Fish Fry in Governors Harbour, a street/beach party that brings together all the tourists and locals with food, drink, and dancing in the street, is not to be missed.

Walking over the hill in the other direction takes you to French Leave Beach, the finest beach on the island and one of the great beaches of the Caribbean. By foot, it’s about 10 minutes to French Leave, a mile-long crescent of pink sand which is literally deserted most of the time. Most visitors to Eleuthera rent a car, because the island is rural and spread out, and a car is the only practical way to get around. By car, Belmont Cottage is just a minute from French Leave Beach.

As an often solo traveler I try to find locations and accommodations where I won't feel singled out. As my title says, Squires Estate felt like a home away from home. The facilities are immaculately cleaned and you can tell the owner really put a lot of time and thought into every detail. The property is located right in Central Governor's Harbor, near the grocery, and a few local restaurants all within walking distance. Each building faces Cupid's Cay, and waking up to a beautiful sunrise just made each morning special.

I stayed at the Jr. Cottage. It's ideal for a solo traveler or a couple. But be forewarned there is not cooking area. I believe the larger houses do have a kitchen. Nevertheless I was able to brew my own coffee/tea and store produce and snacks in the mini fridge. There is internet access if you need to work. There are no phone lines in the Jr. cottage, so make sure to travel with your own phone.

Everyone knows everyone in Eleuthera. After a couple of days my travel became easier with a personal mode of transportation. The French Leave Beach is walking distance about 15 mins or so, but through a quiet deserted path. Having a car makes dining out a lot easier too. Not that there are many selections in the area, but the worthy ones do require a vehicle.

The property is situated on a hill so if you're doing a lot of walking be cautious. The grocery store is down the street, and the area is really quiet and serene.

Also traffic flows on the left. Good thing to know as an American driver.

Joselyn the caretaker will come in to check on you everyday. She's very friendly and very helpful. There is ample parking if you're driving from elsewhere. The airport is about 15 mins away by car.

My stay at Squires Estate was absolutely perfect. The property really is well maintained and ideal for large families, couples or solo travelers. I would love to come back in the future.

This place is just like a paradise. Overlooking the sea up on a hill it is perfectly located. It is wonderful to wake up, step outside and look at the amazing colours of nature. Our cottage was the Cottage at Belmont house. All houses are perfectly furnished and clean. You have beach towels, tv, sugar and tea, coffee, complimentary water the first day..The people taking care of this place are very kind and they are there everyday asking you if you need anything. Our cottage didn't have a kitchenette, therefore we were allowed to use the kitchen at Belmont house for a reasonable price. There are a couple of restaurants around, i can suggest Tippy's, which is on the atlantic side near the pink sand beach, just 10 minutes away.If you have a car is better because you can explore the island as you wish, and absolutely it is a safe place
