SPICE ISLAND

This Galveston beach bungalow style house was built in the 1930’s. Sometime during the 1940’s the bungalow was divided up into several 1 bedroom ‘shotgun’ style apartments.

The house, Oasis, now has three beautiful, but distinctly different apartments. Each one took on their own personality and feel as we restored and furnished them.

Apartment # 1 is lovingly referred to as 'Spice Island'. You will fall in love Spice Island's architectural features, from built in bookshelves, graceful arches to a stained glass window in the bathroom. Let the apartment's natural lighting and island breezes wash over you and transport you to simpler time and place.

The front porch is the perfect place to have a morning tea or coffee as you watch the sunrise over the water or relax in the cool evening breeze with a ginger beer or a vanilla shake.

Spice Island is perfectly located for all Galveston activities. A block away the historic Pleasure Pier, beach and seawall awaits you. The view from the porch will allow you to know right away if you should take your surf board or fishing pole with you to the water. If the beach is not on your agenda, a healthy walk or pleasant bike ride through the beautiful Silk Stocking district will take you to Galveston's historical downtown. Moody Gardens and Schlitterbahn Waterpark is a short 15m drive down the scenic seawall.

Galveston Island is a barrier island on the beautiful Texas coast, less than an hour south of Houston. Leave the hustle and bustle behind and step back in time to one of the most important cities on the gulf coast during the late 1800 hundreds. The amazing architecture and the beautiful ocean views are worth a visit all by themselves; then add in the next 100 years changes from pop culture to beach living and you have a perfect vacation waiting to happen. To top it all off the Historic Pleasure Pier is just across the street with all it's sites and sounds, restaurants and bars within walking distance.

Great Little Getaway

Adorable house with plenty of room (very spacious for two). Clean and well-prepped for our arrival.

The backyard is a nice little place to relax. We used the grill without any trouble.

My only wish is that we had a dollop of olive oil for the kitchen. However, if I had asked Karen, I'm sure she would have provided it immediately. She was very nice.

We had an absolutely fabulous time. The location could not have been better for us - long walks with the dog on the beach, restaurants with-in easy walking distance.
We lucked into Mardi Gras while we were there and the owners made sure we did not miss a parade or a party.
Clean, well-organized and worth the visit - lovely rear patio with BBQ.
We are golfers, and the Moody Gardens Golf Course is a challenge and not too pricy.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Pet-friendly, Girls Getaway, Sightseeing, Romantic Getaway

Great location and property manager!

Pros:
- Location, location, location. .. awesome location. Across from the new Pleasure Pier and walking distance of shops and restaurants. Great to go walking on the beach.
- The property manager is very attentive and nice
- Dogs allowed so you don't have to leave and board them
- Kids playground, skate park, & dog park just down the street

Cons:
- Thin walls like a lot of hotels so we did our best to keep the kids and dogs quiet
- Gaps on the door weather seal so cold or warm air comes in easily on the side and bottom
- Parking could be an issue if all rentals on the street are full

Excellent place to stay in Galveston. Visited area several times and best place found,always wanted a quiet place, no condo or hotel. Location, cleanliness superb. Exactly as pictures showed. Manager prompt answering emails and instructions. All was ready when we arrived. Highly recommended.

Loved the ocean view from the front porch!

We had a great time! The home was clean and quite comfortable. The owner and manager were fantastic to work with. We enjoyed looking out over Pleasure Pier in the evening hours. And, the sunrise/sunset walks on the ocean were easily accessible since the house is located across the street from the water. Perfect place for that "just need to see the ocean" excursion! And, the best part was not having to go up and down in a hotel elevator! We will be booking this house again!
