Getting out and about:
Special interest holidays
The Americas Cup was held in Valencia in 2007, and the area will be holding the competition again in 2009. Access to Valencia is very good with nearby mountains, there are a number of excellent walking trails, and mountain bike trails nearby. There is a horse stable, which offers gentle coastal riding and scuba diving based in the lovely marina of Las Fuentes.
The large Spanish resort of Oropessa is about a 20 minute drive south of Alcossebre. Whilst it is not everyone's cup of tea (built mainly for the Spanish holiday makers) as it has quite a few high rise hotels. It does have a wonderful spa/indoor swimming pools so if you want to treat yourself then it may suit you (especially out of season if you have a dull day). They even carry out plastic surgery!
Peniscola, Vinaros & Morella:
These are 3 great towns well worth a visit.
Peniscola is closest and whilst it is a holiday resort it really does have a lot of character. There is the wonderful fort/castle (where they filmed El Cid) which is full of windy streets and restaurants. The prom is about 4 miles long full of ice cream parlours. It makes a great day out for all.
Vinaros is a market town with a lovely shopping area - full of local character and typically Spanish. Because it is the main working town, there is something to see and do all year round. Well worth the visit.
Morella - one of the oldest walled cities in Spain (still inhabited) it is about an 75 min drive. But really worth the effort. It reminds us of York/Bath (except its on a mountain). Lots of great tapas bars/cafes and the views are magnificent. A great day out.
Golf:
The beautiful golf course (Panoramica) in San Jordi is an approximate 25 minutes drive, it was designed by Bernhard Langer. . Another course (Cap i Corp) is being built with completion due late 2008. There is also Sergio Garcia's course at Castellon - about 25 - 30 minute drive away
