Bennett & Sheila Martin
Both born and raised in Sonoma and have enjoyed raising our 3 children in this small wine town setting. Bennett is a partner in a successful architectural practice and Sheila is the assistant marketing director at a large wine & spirits company located in Napa.
Bennett Martin purchased this cottage in 2005
I do not give out 5 stars easily - that being said, we and a few girlfriends had an AWESOME time there!
1) Owner's easy to communicate with, helpful, considerate and laid back.
2) The cottage is very lovely, clean and private. Great amenities such as bottled water, wine, coffee, soda and cigar :) the canned soup is a great midnight snack too!
3) LOVED, LOVED the garden and the cutest dogs onsite!
I would definitely go back! Thanks for making the experience so pleasant!
Perfect stay for a much needed break for a new business owner of a yoga studio. Northern California provides many activities, but I went for the down time and spending time with friends. I hosted a lunch on the outdoor patio with world traveling yogis and they loved the tranquility of the spot as much as I did. I couldn't hear a peep from the landlords once inside the cottage - nor did I hear the dogs barking in the morning which I was warned about. I am not a heavy sleeper at all - the cottage is just outright quiet and perfect for catching up on sleep which I did! - warm and cool in all the right places. I would definitely go back as the whole process was easy, honest, and smooth as possible. The cottage was spotlessly clean when I arrived and I liked the bonus of beer, wine and water in the fridge (no guarantees on the left behinds), teas in the cupboards (I left some, too). My mom has older spices than you'll find in those cupboards. I didn't take the VW out for a spin, though it was offered. I had a rental and traveled outside of Sonoma, and made sure to take advantage of chilling out in the cottage as well. I will be back!
A few of us had a lovely stay at this centrally located, cute and well appointed home in October 2014 for a wedding we attended that weekend. Bennet, the owner, was responsive to emails and texts, both before and during our stay although we rarely saw anyone while we were there so it felt like it was our own private sanctuary between wedding activities. In addition to the bottles of wine he provided when we arrived in the house, when we were enjoying take out in his lovely outdoor space the day after the wedding, he personally delivered a delicious bottle of cold champagne and checked in to see how we were getting on. He was very friendly and we felt very welcome in his home. We enjoyed the privacy and secure gate access and proximity to the wedding activities (rehearsal dinner near the square, wedding and post-wedding activities near the house) that we attended during the weekend. As we had our own cars, we didn't use the Bug listed as featured on the site, but maybe we will on a future visit. Thank-you!
This rental was perfect for a long weekend stay with 2 of my girlfriends! The house was a short drive/walk to the square, but was still tucked away, allowing us the perfect amount of privacy and relaxation. The patio was lovely, the house was clean, and the welcome bottle of wine was much appreciated. We had the privilege of meeting Bennett and also his dog Buddha which was great. Also, many thanks to Gary (who was working on the roof at Bennett's house) for helping us start the VW bug and even snapping a few pics for us while we were in the car. Would highly recommend this rental and we certainly hope to be back!
This was a great place to stay. I felt right at home . The owners were very helpful. Our dog fell in love with theirs and they had their own vacation!
The house is OK but did not meet the expectations created by the price level.
Two days before the arrival we still did not have property address / instructions from the owner. He need to be contacted twice before he sent everything. Even after that his email got into junk email folder, which he said could have happen - still, why can not email be designed in a way to avoid "junk mail" folder?
The neighborhood is less than shiny. There is a good grocery store nearby - we loved it.
House itself is less than impressive. Plastic plants, windows facing the fence, very dated microwave and refrigerator, synthetic linens, less than perfectly sharp knifes. The list is long.
On the positive side, the owners were very nice, we liked the garden, and the area is magnificent.
