Great Location; High Transaction Fees for Deposit
Great location - 1 block from Ipanema Beach, across the street from a grocery store, restaurants downstairs. Be cautious, though, with the dry cleaners on the ground level - $34 for 2 pr shorts, 1 top, 1 bra, 2 panties & 2 wash cloths (no dry cleaning - all laundry). Cheaper ones a block or so away. The apt. needs some amenities: the coffee pot is archaic and should be replaced with an electric one; no hair dryers, no iron or ironing board (that we could locate); bed covers had stains on them. The most disappointing thing, however, was the ridiculous 15% fee the owner withheld from our security deposit to "Cover the PayPal Transaction Fees". PayPal charges 3.9% for international payments, so this was a ripoff. I took 11 travelers with me to Rio on this trip (my 5th time to visit the city), and rented 4 apartments, all within 1 block of each other. None of the other three charged fees for their security deposits, so I will be returning to one of them in the future.
Owner's Response: We apologise about the laudry's prices and can only suggest her to ask us prior where to go on a next trip. By the way, during her stay we went personally to the laudry to verify the prices on her account to answer her email claiming prices.
About paypal fees, we affirm the customer has agreed to pay them, inclusively on the signed contract. Although we have sent our paypal account copy twice by mail, including the ID paypal number and the copy of the receipt, she insists in not accepting/believing the 7,4% cost for transfering the money. As she sent us the guarantee 4 months prior to the location, paypal policies maybe have charged when returning the money back more than 60 days later to her credit card. We can only declare, and want to make her sure of, that any cent of the guarantee received from paypal was returned to the customer, then she hasn't payed us any charges . We're at her disposal to re-send any copies of the security deposits received, is she considers to be in contact with Paypal directly, since it's a global company with headquarters in San Jose, CA - USA.
