Photos and Description of the Allier vacation house rental Situated in the Bourbonnais country of the Auvergne in the village of Langy.

The house is situated in the heart of the Bourbonnais country of the northern Auvergne in the small village of Langy 20k NE of Vichy. It is a spacious detached house in the centre of the village overlooking the square and 12th century Romanesque church. The house sleeps 8 people (plus cot) and has spacious living accommodation, plus four bedrooms and two bathrooms. It stands in a garden of a third of an acre, with a large gravelled courtyard in front of the house with parking for 3 cars, plus a garage. Regret no smoking and no pets. The last weekend in August is the time of the annual Langy fete, with a barbecue for the whole village on Saturday evening, and a 'brocante' (antique fair) which takes over the whole village on Sunday. The nearest town, Varennes Sur Allier is 10min away. The Auvergne is a beautiful region of France,. It caters for a variety of interests such as walking, cycling, sports and general sightseeing, and relaxing and enjoying the French way of life.

Nearest Airport: Clermont Ferrand at 60 Kilometres
Nearest Train: St Germain des Fosses at 10 Kilometres
Nearest Motorway: A71 at 40 Kilometres

Langy is 20k from the elegant spa city of Vichy with its parks, sporting facilities, restaurants, casino, cinemas, concerts, shops and opportunity to take the waters . The nearest town is Varennes Sur Allier (8k). It has a market on Tuesday mornings, shopping including supermarkets and petrol, and a very pleasant open air swimming pool. There are more than fifty chateaux in the Auvergne, of which 2 are very close to Langy - Billy (8k) and Lapalisse (10k). Both have the remains of old chateaux which can be visited. There is a wine growing region centred on the town of St Pourcain with many of the local vineyards offering opportunities for wine tasting. The beautiful Parc des Volcans (Volcano Regional Park) is only an hour's drive away. Vulcania the Volcano theme park is 15k from Clermont Ferrand. The motor racing circuit at Magny Cours is about an hour’s drive away.

Notes: The large living room is light and airy with windows on 3 sides and comfortably furnished with 2 sofas and 2 arm chairs. Facilities include satellite TV / DVD player, a selection of light reading and board games and wireless broadband. The house has high ceilings which keep it at a comfortable temperature in summer. All the living area and bedrooms have solid wood floors and wool rugs, and the hall and kitchen floors are tiled. There are electric convector heaters and the water is heated by electricity. Across the lane from the house is a lovely landscaped children's play area with swings, see-saw and slide, and a picnic table.

Golf: There are golf courses at Sporting Club Vichy, Golf de la Foret de Montpensier at Serbannes near Vichy, Toulon Sur Allier (near Moulins) and at Briailles near St Pourcain.

Walking/cycling: There are delightful places for walking and cycling in the immediate vicinity of the house. Slightly further afield, there are plenty of places for walking in the Bourbonnais mountains, the Foret de Troncais or further south in the Massif Central. There is a book of walks in the house, plus a great deal of other information on the area.

Other activities: Music festivals - Many of the surrounding towns and villages hold music festivals during the long summer months. Brocante - Antique fairs take place every weekend in the Allier, and are a great place for browsing and finding a bargain. Parachuting - The airfield at Perigny-Lapalisse (10k) offers parachuting courses. Canoeing - Canoeing courses may be taken at St Germain des Fosses (12k). Fishing - There is fishing in the Allier river and nearby lakes.
