Joe and Robin live in the lower peninsula in a smaller community close to the Ann Arbor area. We have 2 children and 2 labs that we bring to Boot Lake along with family and friends. It is our wonderfully relaxing 'home away from home' where many activities are enjoyed including fishing, hunting, walking and swimming along the Lake Superior shoreline and beaches, enjoying waterfalls, hikes, bike-riding, canoeing, and all of the special attractions that the town of Munising and the Pictured Rocks National Park provide. At the property we fish off the dock, enjoy campfires and dinners at the picnic table in the summer. During the winter we love to see the freshly fallen snow on the pine bows while looking out at the lake and curling up to read a book or to enjoy family conversations by the fireplace.

Robin purchased this house in 2003

Joe has a rustic cabin located nearby along the Driggs River. Although it is a Men's paradise and it is beautiful, it does not have electricity and other common amenities that we wanted to enjoy during family vacations. For several years while our children were little, we rented cabins along Lake Superior in Grand Marais and also west of Munising in the Autrain area. We realized that the central location of Munising is what felt most like home to us. We started looking for a cottage or cabin, but when we stumbled upon this very unique home we decided to make it our own. It has been the source of wonderful traditions and experiences for our family as well as many of our guests.

Dancing Bear Lodge on Boot Lake is a very unique, custom built home and we are proud to be the third owners of this special property built in 1980. The original owners designed and built the home with him being a custom builder and her being a highschool art teacher. You will enjoy many of the artistic elements in the design as well as the planning that maximized all views of the lake. For historic considerations, the stone foundation lamp-posts that welcome guests to Dancing Bear Lodge were originally located at the entry of the old Munising Walter Mather Highschool. When it closed in 1979 to make way for the current highschool which is located on Lake Superior, the lamp-posts were gifted to the original owner. We named our vacation property the Dancing Bear Lodge on Boot Lake based on the current interior decor which includes elements of the dancing bears made famous by the 19th Century Artist, William Holbrook Beard.

Great Family Getaway!

  • 5 of 5
What a wonderful, relaxing way to spend Memorial Day weekend with our family. The home is so cozy and well-equipped for the 8 of us. From board games, to boats, bikes, and a gorgeous location...this was just awesome! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our mornings sipping coffee on the deck overlooking Boot Lake and spending evenings under the stars on the dock. This location is perfect for hiking Pictured Rocks and visiting Munising Falls. Thank you for sharing your slice of heaven with us. We will be back!

Really enjoyed our snowmobile weekend at the Dancing Bear Lodge. The house has easy access to trail system and all of us enjoyed being able to snowmoile right from the front door.
Robin was great to deal with and everything was just as described in the listing.

We can't wait to go back!!

We can't wait to go back!!

My husband and I spent a part of our honeymoon here at Boot Lake Lodge and we cannot wait to go back!! Next time we'll bring friends, the place is very large and could sleep many more people comfortably. We used the fireplace every single day, it was so relaxing! The place was clean, easy to find things, and had some nice updates. We made chili in the crock pot one morning and then did a day trip to Marquette. We also had great nights at the Boot Lake Bar hanging out with some new friends during the Tigers' playoffs. We were so sad to leave!! We will back. Thank you Joe and Robin Dick for a beautiful honeymoon!

Love,

Something for Everyone

  • 5 of 5
We went to the Dancing Bear Lodge with another family and between us, we had five kids. We were concerned that we would not be able to keep them busy the entire trip since they ranged in age from 9 to 14. However, the lodge had so many things for the kids to do -- swimming, tubing or boating in the lake, making smores on the campfire, hiking in the woods, available board games, and, yes, WiFi and Satellite TV -- that our kids were excited to be there every day during our week-long stay. The lodge was clean, spacious, and had a great room for the kids to sleep in together. For the four adults in our party, we couldn't get enough of reading on the decks, having coffee in the morning on the dock by the lake, and running or biking the area. Munising was also a wonderful surprise for us. We'd never been to the U.P. and Munising offered an adventure every day. The lodge was not far from Marquette, so we travelled there one day, and we even took a day trip to White Fish Point. Overall, we were so happy with our time at Dancing Bear Lodge. By the end of the trip, my husband and boys declared, "Best. Trip. Ever."

Beautiful Vacation Home!

  • 5 of 5
We loved our week at Boot Lake Lodge! Robin & Joe's home is beautiful, comfortable, well maintained and very clean. The trees and lake views from the home are spectacular....especially from the MBR. Our family enjoyed the boats (motor and canoe), and fishing on Boot Lake. We spent time at Miners Beach, Taquamenon Falls hiking, canoeing at Northwood Outfitters and just relaxing. Robin was always easy to get ahold of if we had any questions and made it very easy for a family to spend a week there! We would love to go back again!
