Our home, Villa de la Mariposa, which is located in Playa Laguna(between Sosua and Cabarete), is just a short 15 minute drive from the airport, 10 minutes from Sosua, and 15 minutes from Cabarete. Restaurants, bars, casinos, beaches, supermarkets, and shopping are located in each town. Cabarete is known as the kite surfing capital of the world, with snorkeling, diving, fishing and simply sunbathing available in either town. At night, the discos in Sosua begin the festive music and the streets are crowded with visitors. Playa Laguna is a quiet neighborhood located between the exclusive homes in Sea Horse Ranch and the beautiful project with amenities known as Sosua Ocean Village to the west. A state of the art gym and work out facility, an exceptional restaurant, and a waterpark are all part of Sosua Ocean Village. A new, small hospital has opened within the last year serving visitors, as well as locals, in Sosua. Not a rental property, our home is a family home 6 months of the year.
Other Activities: MAP as shown on HomeAway is INCORRECT! VILLA de la MARIPOSA is located between Sosua and Cabarette, 600 meters from the ocean NOT IN THE MIDDLE OF PUERTO PLATA.
Excursions to waterfalls, zip lining, horseback riding and 4 wheelers are also readily available. The 4 wheelers will take you into the 'back country'
Golf: Playa Dorado is the closest course and has a full 18 hole golf course within 30 minutes of the villa. It is an 18 hole course that offers caddies, rental clubs, and necessary equipment for rent. The course is lush and somewhat challenging. The Dominican Republic is noted for beautiful, lush green courses and this one is no exception.
About an hour and half drive to the east, the course referred to as the 'Pebble Beach of the Carribean', by some golf magazines, is located. Playa Grande is a course you need to take a camera with you when you play (also plenty of extra balls) since several holes are located along the ocean.
This is an exceptional Robert Trent Jones Sr. Course and many golfers will enjoy the challenge of a championship course in one of the most beautiful settings in the Caribbean, if not the world.
Below is an excerpt from the website:
“Sprawling over 370 acres of picturesque coastline, the world-class Playa Grande Golf Course, designed by celebrated architect Robert Trent Jones, Sr., is known as “the Pebble Beach of the Caribbean” by the golf community.
With 10 holes playing directly on the ocean, this 7,085-yard course winds along the coastline, providing amazingly open vistas, cliff-side fairways, and sloping greens.”
Wherever you choose to play, the courses are beautiful and lush. The Caribbean breezes, a cold beer, and great stories are waiting to be shared.
