Levada walks, golf and swimming nearby: The villa is the ideal base to explore the beautiful island of Madeira, its strategic location in the heart of Funchal means it is just by the seaside were you can swim, water ski, scuba dive, sail and much more. The 2 golf courses are very near, Palheiro Golf is just 10min away and Santo da Serra Golf is just 20min away. Madeira is a walkers paradise and from here you can reach the mountains and discover the levada trails. A bus stop is nearby, and the main road to the airport is very easy to catch. Local café and corner shop is a couple of meters down the road.

A great favourite. Bright, very spacious one bedroom apartment. Located on the middle floor of this elegant old Madeiran villa, the large balcony offers stunning views of the sea just in front and bay of Funchal and has private deckchairs and barbecue as well as outside dining area - No car necessary. Sleeps 2 people in twin beds in a very large bedroom with French windows. High ceilings, original wooden floors and lots of lovely light. The living room has French windows accessing the balcony. A fully equipped kitchenette and dining area including stove, fridge and microwave. Large bathroom with lovely Portuguese tiles with original bath and separate walk in shower area and window.Swimming pool with deck chairs and large table. Shared with other 2 flats. Private barbecue. About Cristina Abreu

Since moving to the Old Town of Funchal 10years ago we fell in love with this beautiful part of Madeira. We live here because it is the ideal combination of sun, old fashioned charm, tropical gardens and sea. Our villas each have their unique character, with the luxury of space - a sense of history and offering the best Madeira has to offer. We have assembled a collection of eight fabulous seaside villas in the old town that are run as successful self-catering properties. Alongside this business, we launched the award winning publishing company, Funchal-Publications in 2005 that has several travel books on the Island. This complement of books, history & local knowledge is something we like to pass on to our guests, and makes each holiday experience special.

Seaside location near the Old Town of Funchal. The tropical garden is an oasis in the center of town with a swimming pool surrounded by tropical plants. The sea and beach is a short walk away.   • Wonderful bathroom with seaviews. Terracota tiled floor, and the walls have traditional portuguese glazed tiles. The villa´s original bath has been restored and has pride of place in this bathroom. A separate large walk in shower even has a seat made from the local volcanic stone.

Marvelous apartment by the sea

We booked this jewel of an apartment and had an enchanting stay. Its a part of Funchal full of charm, lots of gardens, old houses crumbling to bits a bit like a refined and very clean Cuba without the danger or poverty. Apartment has a lot of space (we though the staircase was shared but then realised the entire place was just for the two of us - the bedroom is massive it has 3 different windows and three doors, so that gives an idea of how big it is). We used the swimming pool and spent a lot of time on the terrace which has great views of Funchal port. There are some teeny restaurants within walking distance which we found very good quality/price (tapassol, Jango and Sabor a Fado) and the barreirinha bar was great to sip a drink before heading back home (one night it had some good jazz). The climate was so warm we could not beleive it as it was snowing back home, we got 21 degrees one day. Its a very nice island and I think we chose the best place to stay.

Just a quick thank you for another lovely stay in the Bay View. LOVED the new wicker sunchairs on the veranda they are so chic and comfortable it really made us live outside all day long, we only left the apartment for essential rations and even cooked all our dinners on the BBQ while enjoying the views. Brilliant stay in Bay

Where to begin...first please book us again for the same week next year it was just the holiday we needed and it was an inspired choice to stay here (top marks to my wife that found you on the internet). Loved the high ceilings and beautiful decor and overall luxury of space of the apartment itself. It feels like you are in a tropical oasis but the house is actually in the center of town right by the sea and close to everything that matters in Funchal. We really had a charming stay and will count the days to our next holiday here. Many thanks and see you next year.

Many thanks for a delightful holiday in the Bay View, we felt very much at home and found the apartment full of special touches that made our stay very special. The views are superb and even better than the photos show, inside everything is beautiful and I can´t help thanking all the support we got throughout our stay. We hope to return very soon again as the weather here makes us long for our home from home in Madeira with our barbecues and warm sunsets on the balcony. Fondest regards

Best of both worlds

We stayed first in the Bay View and then the Pool Cottage (both owned by the same people) and found the combination superb. A private transfer took us in about 10min from the airport to the Bay View, arriving early at the house everything was ready for us at 10am which was very appreciated. The apartment was enormous and very handsome with tall ceilings and lots of windows with great sea views. We enjoyed the sunny terrace and also the sunbathing area around the pool which is shaded by banana trees (we ate some delicious). Location was brilliant in the center but without the bustle, we had dinner out every night in the old town which has plenty of choice, it also has typical poncha bars and a bakery which seems to be open all the time. When we went to the next apartment the owner picked us up and took us to the Pool Cottage (with all our breakfast stuff in a trolley) service was above and beyond what we expected and so was the Bay View which we would certainly recommend.
