Wonderful location, great staff...bad architecture...horrible management!
It is undeniable that Sian Ka'an is a gem; the flora fauna and secluded beaches are to die for. The location of Casa Houston is ideal - far enough from the entrance to avoid crowds, yet close enough to enjoy Tulum. On the positive side, the caretaker and his wife are also great. However, the house design and architecture leaves a lot to be desired - interrupted views, columns in strange places, views of washing machine instead of lagoon, etc. - which is not a huge issue, but an unfortunate circonstance.
However, in over 6 years of renting with VRBO have I ever come across such rude and cheap management: the simple request of missing kitchen items was unbearable, with pans taking a week, and a simple water pitcher (yes, there were no such) never arrived; borrowing hammocks was like pulling teeth; getting the internet to work took 10 phone calls, since she was "busy"; and so the list goes on...too painful to recount.
Yes, there is another plus side - it is cheap - but, you get what you pay for...sad.
Owner's Response: Unfortunately these Guests got upset with Management, after pointing them out that bringing two unannounced guests for a total of 6 adults was exceeding the maximum occupancy of 4 guests stated in the Rental Agreement. Not only did they violated the contract but also abused the sustainable property in a National Reserve.
