This House is an adorable 'old Florida style' beach house built off the ground on Cayo Costa Island. The island is a 'boat in boat out' island only approx 12 miles from end to end and 1 mile wide. The house sits a cozy 600 feet from he waters edge ( beach side). The house is approx. 1200 sq. ft. 2 Bedroom, 1-1/2 bath. Timber framed Construction with old Cypress wood. All of the interior finishes are unique and many are native and reclaimed materials. The solar system is new and of the latest technology. The home also includes a private dock for your fishing boat located on the bay side of the Island. See our Web site for more information. It is a down to earth feeling with all natural and native finishes. The style is calm, easy on the eye, and provides a welcome antidote to life in the fast lane, Enjoy! The Best Shelling and Bird watching on the Gulf!
Sherri and Rick Agnew Owners and Island neighbors. The Junonia house was owned by Martha and Mark Tuttle. We purchased the house after the passing of our good friend Martha in Spring of 2009. We wanted to keep the house as we all remember and love. The house is reminiscent of a fine rare shell known as the 'Junonia'. This is our treasure to share with all who would like to experience our bare foot lifestyle. In hopes that you can recapture the invigorating sensation of mental and physical well being that we experience by the sea. As the pace of life speeds up, we escape to Cayo Costa to fid our true balance. It is like recharging our internal batteries. Sherri is an interior designer and Rick is a commercial real estate broker by trade. We live in Columubus, Indiana and come the island on and off throughout the year. We have 'Sanddollar De LaCosta' as our home away from home. We have restored the Junonia beach house as it was originally built, totally Island style.
Rick & Sherri Agnew purchased this cottage in 2009
We stumbled onto the island by fate. We have a neighboring home in which we live in on and off throughout the year. Our island is a majestical and spiritual place and you too will come to see what we mean and why we want to share the experience with you. It is always hard to leave.
Cayo Costa beach is as isolated as is beautiful. Many times one can go there and truly be all by yourself! It is often referred to as 'the best kept secret in south Florida'
Exactly what we were looking for...a true getaway. Rick and Sherri were easy to communicate with when booking/making/adjusting plans. Captain Dan was the same with water taxi service to the island. We pre-ordered food from Publix by fax and it was ready to go for us. We arrived and things were just as described- wonderful, quaint, cozy...paradise-like. We had been to Cayo a couple of times previously just for day trips and knew we'd love Junonia By The Sea. Pretty great staying out there with conveniences, but no firm plans. Warm days were beach time (technically every day was beach time) and cooler ones we explored, fished, biked and more. Met some families, residents and hikers. All were great to talk to and we never saw too many for too long. Great Stuff: The house was fantastic and our 7 yr old loved 'his room' downstairs and the spiral staircase, the club car is key for getting around, no problem with electric capacity in the home, shelling, fishing (no water flow to the lagoon hotspot when we were there), club car to state park/rent bikes (they have some snacks/bait/food/gifts too), on cool days we loved the southwest facing deck (protected from wind and warm). Neat Stuff: Alligator not far from the dock, manatees, dolphins, an osprey picking up my live pinfish bait on the gulf side and flying away with it, Ricky the palm tree racoon, the weird things that blow up on shore after high winds, watching the winter olympics after a long day of playing and having family island version events the next day. Good Times Gone Bad (I can laugh now): When an osprey took my pinfish bait up in the air... along with the rod/reel from it's holder. I think my blazing surf running speed surprised him and he dropped it. Rod recovered about 25 yds out! Not so lucky bay side @ State Park on a different day-something big took a rod/reel so fast that there was only a bubble trail. Nice setup too. And the only thing I really wanted to say goodbye too...Mr. Stingray. Mr. Stingray-Why'd you have to be so mean? I must have forgotten to shuffle. 6 hours of wicked pain ensued. It's fun going to a place that is the catalyst for creating family memories, experiences and adventure. If that's what you are after, this is your place. Sadly, our island adventure had to come to an end, but we continued the fun by exploring Matlacha, Punta Gorda and Fort Myers for a few days. We'd love to come back. Thanks for a great vacation!
My family and I had the best vacation of our lives on Cayo Costa and Junonia by the Sea was everything we expected and so much more. The view from the house was absolutely breathtaking. Our girls, ages 15 and 10, positively LOVED the house, the beach, and the shells they found are still a huge topic with all of thier friends. It was definitely an unforgettable expirience that we would recommend to everyone we know. Thank you so much for sharing your little piece of paradise with us, and we look forward to going again in the future. Truely the BEST VACATION EVER!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you again.
This was our first vacation with our boys; their ages are 10, 6 and 2. We wanted it to be a memorable experience, and it was! Our boys kept busy exploring the island in the club car provided by Rick and Sherri, combing the beach for sea shells and sand dollars, building sand casltes, snorkeling, taking a walk to the state park, searching for island critters, spotting dolphins and manantees. It truely is paradise. Junonia and Cayo Costa were everything we had hoped it would be. Rick and Sherri were very helpful in answering all our questions and explaining the uniqueness of Cayo Costa and Junonia. This is a vacation destination you wouldn't want to overlook.....I am so glad we didn't! Thank you Rick and Sherri for sharing your little piece of paradise with my family.
My husband and I spent 12 glorious days at Junonia by the Sea Cottage on Cayo Costa Island off the coast of Florida. We stayed 3 days longer than planned because we just didn't want to leave! The cottage was fantastic, beautifully decorated with wonderful views of the Gulf. The swinging king-sized bed was a real treat & we often sat out on the balcony off the bedroom to look at the stars and moon. The house is solar heated so you must be careful with your electrical usage so every night we lit up the cottage with candles and loved it! The house was spotless when we arrived and obviously kept in great repair by the owners. Cayo Costa Island is an adventure and it's a real privilege to stay there. There are 10 miles of empty beaches to shell and beachcomb, no roads, no stores, very few houses....magnificent isolation in natural beauty and wildlife abounds. There are many activities: walking the beaches, birdwatching, shelling, reading/relaxing, bushwacking your way around the island, kayaking, canoeing, taking the boat over to Cabbage Key for a cheeseburger in paradise. Cayo Costa is a place to go to get away and rejuvenate and Junonia by the Sea is the place to stay. We plan to go back again....and again....and again.
Other Activities: kayaking, shelling, boating, bird watching, beach walks, fishing, crabing.
Golf: Our Beach Side Cottage, is unique... Off the Grid & Powered by Solar Energy. The best place to disconnect from the fast pace of everyday life. Very Powerful in the Energy that you feel, Like connecting with Nature.
