We grew up in California and Ohio and fell in love, married and began our family in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Our family home schools so we have the freedom to travel to Kauai throughout the year and we love to get to the island whenever we can. We are avid skiers (our daughter began at 17 months), but enjoy getting away from the snow for a mid-winter break!
The Owner purchased this condo in 1989
We fell in love with Pali Ke Kua on our first walk down the beach path to the enchanting Hideaways Beach -- it is truly a magical spot and you feel it in your heart the moment you see the amazing Bali Hai come into view. We chose the corner unit because it was the only one at Pali Ke Kua that had spectacular ocean/Bali Hai views and spectacular mountain/waterfall views as well. Counting over 30 waterfalls cascading down the mountain face in the mornings is just breathtaking and when you turn your head you can count as many whales in the ocean during the fall and winter months.

The North Shore of Kauai is what you imagine when you think of 'Hawaii'. It is green, lush, breathtakingly beautiful and the type of place that calls you to return again and again. Our condo captures both the mountain and ocean experience that is unique to the North Shore. Princeville is about 45 minutes from the Lihue, Kauai airport (LIH) and a car rental is a good idea. There are weekly farmer's markets in Hanalei town and Kilauea so you can get some local taste treats to prepare at home. A full market, Foodland, is nearby in the Princeville Shopping Center. We enjoy cooking so our kitchen is equipped with specialty tools that experienced cooks enjoy and novices will enjoy trying. If you choose to stay out of the kitchen altogether, there are restaurants within walking distance or just a few minutes away by car. Postcards is one of our favorite restaurants in Hanalei town. The Princeville library has a large selection of books and DVDS available for loan. It also has a wonderful changing display of Hawaiiana. The Princeville Community Center is located across the street from the library and posts a monthly calendar with everything from yoga to hula lessons. Next to the Community Center is the Princeville Park which is a wonderful place for parents and children alike. The park has a great play structure and climbing wall suitable for older kids and great areas for smaller children as well. The park is adjacent to a large grass field that is perfect for flying kites or playing ball and frisbee. A gazebo with picnic tables is open to all and BBQs are on site. Queen Emma's baths are an easy walk from the condo and they are a spectacular site in the spring and summer months (the waves can be dangerous in the winter months so always be safe and check before hiking there).
We like privacy and having a full kitchen for less than hotel cost.
Love the beauty and quiet.
We loved staying here. Being a corner unit is the best. Could spend the whole day just taking in the views. The completely equipped kitchen made cooking a pleasure & easy! Beautifully decorated, it felt like a home not a rental. We had everything we needed plus the bonus of a library of books. Great walks in the neighborhood & down to the beach. We will definitely choose this particular unit on our next trip.
Great place to stay. Private path to beach where the fishing is great. Snorkeling nearby also good. And at night the view for sunset is awesome. We watched whales from the balcony. Will definitely come back to this unit!! They also have a new restaurant on the premises which was great for a casual pizza dinner
What a fabulous week. This is our third trip to this particular unit at Pali Ke Kua.
As usual, spectacular. All the comforts of home but of course with the million dollar view. We were so lucky with the weather this Feb...hot hot hot. I'm watching the whales jump as I write this review-right from the breakfast window. Thank you to the owners for sharing their piece of bliss.
As I've mentioned in reviews before, you can't beat this unit because it is a corner unit with a view of both ocean and mountains.
Tip... Do the M, W sunrise yoga class at the Makai golf a few blocks down the street. Mahalo
Mahalo for sharing your home. We had another lovely stay in this fabulous corner unit. I love that the condo has windows on three sides, almost a 360 degree view of ocean and mountains.
Thanks also for the snorkel gear as I hate packing all of those bulky items. We just moved right in!
This location is really the best for all the things we wanted to do....surfing, snorkeling, hiking, walking and eating of course. A few good finds this trip: taco truck at Hanalei(if Pat at the grill), fab Hawaiian taro truck on the way in to Hanalei (best homemade ginger soda), Sushi Girl at the end of the road, Dolphin for fish, and honeycomb at Banana Joes if you're lucky. But best of all, views from this condo at sunset. And the private beach access. Enjoy. Will be back in February. Aloha
PS please sign the guest book and leave any tips ( as we actually got some good ideas from others' comments)
My husband and two kids felt as though we had been transported to another era. Staying at this condo is, truly, a dream realized. With the pathway right below to the beach and ocean, the BBQ facilities, your fully equipped home, the privacy...it has it all. The condo is welcoming, charming, clean, comfortable and lovely. I would recommend it to all my friends and family exept that I want our family to be able to stay again, soon! We couldn't have asked for anything more.
What a great vacation!! We loved the condo, location and,of course, the view. This is THE best view on the island, far better than the pictures show on the website. A few of our favorite things were the book selection, the snorkel gear and beach towels (as I forgot to pack ours), sitting at the breakfast table watching the double rainbows which seemed to terminate on the balcony :-) Don't forget to stock up on fresh fruit at Banana Joes and fresh sashimi at the local market. I am craving the gourmet tacos from the taco truck in the parking lot of Hanalei Beach. Our surfing instructor pointed us in that direction. Oh, and I love the private path down to the beach...very secluded and tropical. Can't wait to go back in
Kiteboarding, hula lessons, children's community park, kite flying, bird watching and whale watching.
