This house has a screened-in porch, 57 ft. long, looking out over the marshes and a tidal creek with a view of Sapelo Island in the distance. Adjacent to the porch is a 16X18 ft. deck. Sit in our Hot Springs hot tub at night on that deck under a canopy of brilliant stars, undiminished by civilization's lights. There are five sets of french doors that open onto the porch on the southeast side. Open the front door and the french doors, and a gentle breeze blows through the whole house. Yet the whole house is quite private. Our house is adjacent, but away from your viewscape. No other neighbors are visible.
The kitchen overlooks the great room, with a view of the marsh through three sets of French doors. The master bedroom suite is on one side of the house, with the other two bedrooms on the other side. Two bedrooms, with King size beds and high-thread-count linens have French doors that open up to the porch. Or sleep on the bed on the porch, if you like. An office and den and the dining room is on the northwest. They overlook an almost private lagoon, that you can fish in and is full of wildlife and exotic birds, which include wood storks, hooded mergansers and pileated woodpeckers. Porpoises will occasionally forage in the tidal creek right next to the house. The third bedroom, with a queen bed, views the lagoon and a corner of the marsh. We also have an office (with a futon) that faces the lagoon. If you just want to hang out, we have a flat screen HDTV, Blu Ray player, Netflix instant stream movies, plus a wonderful sound system.
Two sit-on-top double kayaks and one canoe are on-site, making it easy to get on the tidal creek right from our property. We also have five bikes (four fat tire adult and one small girl's fat tire). If you bring your own, we recommend fat tire bikes if you plan on riding on any of the many sandy roads. However there are many good rides for skinny tire bikes. For motor boats, there is a public launch for a fee (back-in trailer for free) a few miles away. Take your own boat out to Sapelo Island (within sight of the house) and its beautiful beaches, or take the $1 ferry from it's launch a mile away. Drive 20 min. to the Harris Neck Wildlife Reserve and see the finest bird rookeries on the Georgia Coast and probably the whole southeast Atlantic Coast.

Susan until 09/09 was director of Canopy Studio, an aerial arts teaching and performing center in Athens, GA. Don built Canopy Studio and did the rigging and technical work there. He now makes carbon fiber dance trapezes and sells them all over the world. Susan still teaches some workshops and master classes around the country, but mostly she teaches occasional workshop/retreats to aerialists that come from around the country to the aerial dance studio that Don built next to Marshbreeze (which opended April, '13).
They met in New York City (where Susan taught and performed and Don was a commercial photographer) before moving to the SF bay area for 9 years, then to Athens for 10 years. Now they are full time in Darien.
We decided that we love the marsh more than the beaches. There is so much wildlife just off our deck. It never gets dull. One minute it is tranquil with a golden glow sunset. Then, other times we are treated with a symphony of thunder and lightning. We like the proximity to Savannah as well as the civilized Jacksonville airport.
Harris Neck Wildlife Refuge with 1000's of birds in nesting season only 25 min. away is unmatched. There are many historical sites, including forts, plantations, and churches. Sapelo Island is a 15 min. ferry ride away. It has incredible history, wildlife and beaches.
