This is an historic home built in 1914. It has beautiful woodwork, 6 fireplaces, and a lot of character. It has a view of Lake Superior from many of it's rooms. The kitchen has been update with cherry cabinets and granite counters and stone flooring. There are several sitting areas to enjoy the view with a cup of coffee or to break away into small groups. Although the home is large enough to host a family gathering, or retreat, the home maintains a cozy atmosphere perfect for romantic getaways, or small groups. The large deck and yard can accommodate many people. It has the convenience of being in town but with the feel of being in the country. Wander through the wooded yard to the adjacent park and hike along the creek to the different water falls.

Features: Cable tv, WIFI, washer/ dryer, Fitness/exercise room with treadmill and a weight machine. Patio furniture (seasonal), Play all your favorites on the baby grand piano in the living room. Call 218-310-4721.

Family Room - Kick back at the end of the day on the leather sectional with two reclining seats and watch a movie on the big 50 inch screen TV, located in the lower level family room with a fireplace. This room also has a counter height table and 4 chairs. Some dvds, games, toys available.

The adventure is right in your own back yard!: This home offers so much history and comfort, while still providing an outdoor adventure. The yard is a 1/2 city block with an array of trees and plant life. Deer are often seen walking through to nibble on the apple trees and occasional a friendly fox pounces around. It may be rare, but you may even sight a curios black bear. The yard boarders on a creek with lovely waters falls, paths, bridge and a occasional bench to sit on and just take it all in. In the winter this area is breathtaking. Large sheets of frozen water cling to the cliff walls, the air is crisp and fresh. The paths are always used, but not over used. Just perfect.

There are a variety of events to enjoy such as: music festivals, Grandma's marathon, big ships and others. We have a scenic park just outside the back yard where you can enjoy waterfalls, trees, birdwatching, and vigorous hikes or casual strolls. Walk or bike along the scenic lakewalk to the Canal Park where there are plenty of shops and restaurants. Here you can watch the ships pass through the canal or tour a ship. Visit the historic train depot and tour old trains. Winter activities abound such as downhill and cross-country skiing or snowmobiling within 15 minutes drive. Take a drive along the North shore and visit Gooseberry Park, Glensheen mansion, Splitrock lighthouse or go hiking on the Gunflint trail.

Other Activities: Snowmobiling, Crosscountry skiing, water rafting, rock climbing, kayaking, hiking, sightseeing, biking, fishing, sailing.

Perfect Girls Weekend

We had 7 ladies that wanted to have a fun weekend together in Duluth. We found this house and it was a perfect fit. We all had our own rooms. We were able to be together as a large group, small group or go off on our own. The weather did not really cooperate but that did not end up making a difference. The house really made the weather insignificant. We even got to use the fireplaces. We could sit around the great dining room table and eat, chat and play games. We also really liked how they had a lot of little things that made it comfortable. For example, space heaters for the rooms that had a hard time regulating heat. And lots of storage so all of our things need not make us feel crowded. We will certainly be making a return visit.

Hi Theresa!
We LOVED the get away to the Hawthorne Manor! So relaxing!!!! Everything was just lovely from the walk in the backyard creek to the cozy fireplace to the super comfortable bed. We liked that the place was absolutely spotless and everything we needed was there for us. The convenience of the grocery store and coffee shop right up the road was much appreciated. The book that you put together of restaurants, sites to see, maps and history of the home was very interesting and helpful for us in knowing where to go and what to do. We will be telling our family and friends about our Hawthorne Manor get away!

The house was perfect for eight girlfriends. There were several rooms to lounge in with comfortable furniture and a 52" TV in the downstairs entertainment room. The WiFi and cable worked well in the house. The kitchen had high-end appliances and was well-stocked with pots and pans, dishes, and staples. One thing to note, however, the house had lots of steps so probably not a place for someone with mobility issues. The welcome basket was a nice surprise and really made us feel welcome. Theresa was easy to work with and answered all of our questions before and during our stay. We all highly recommend the Hawthorne Manor. In fact, we plan to return next year.

A group of friends rented this house for a week-end get away. This house is lovely. Filled with warmth and character. There are spaces that are perfect for group conversation yet the house also offers places where you can get away for private time if needed. The fireplaces, light filled rooms, comfy beds, nearby hiking trails and waterfall make it ideal. Theresa is a pleasure to work with. If you are looking for a place to stay in Duluth- look no further!

Our family was growing quickly and needed to find a house that would hold 5 separate families and definitely found it in the Hawthorne Manor. From check-in to check-out our visit was a memory that could not be replaced. The owners worked with us in everything needed and the house itself does not do justice in the photos. We had so much room that we thought we would have to pass out maps to the kids just to find their way around. The house for the size remained very comfortable temp wise in the winter and as a matter of fact, most nights we had to lower temp because it was so warm. This comes as a high recommendation.
